viewpoints on texts

Modes

 Writing Writing
 Speaking Speaking
 Listening Listening

3. Choose 3 different ways that you could use technology to teach the concepts related to
the descriptor you have chosen. You can use ideas from the list above or you might have
your own ideas. You can search on the internet.

1. My first choice in terms of using technology would be the use of a power point. This
being the use of Microsoft Power Point as to discuss ideas opinions and create a space
for debate. It helps to have a visual aid to navigate the discussion. For example, I
would use a power point to introduce the text that my class would have read then
from there use certain slides to generate discussion about the main points of the text.
This would be done to gather student’s insights into what they think about these main
points in the text and so forth. These slides could contain questions or a series of
images relating to the text making it easier for those students who didn’t quite get
what was happening to understand what the class is discussing and follow on in said
discussion.

2. I believe Google Docs would be a beneficial as the teacher could put up a blank
document and get students to write out all the questions they have about the text
studied in class using anonymous names. I would also use a projector to project the
questions in front of the class so the students can see what they are typing. The
teacher could also use this to edit any questions with improper grammar as the
student’s type. Then at the end the teacher can discuss all the questions together with
class addressing all the student’s issues with the text itself.
3. YouTube, I believe the use of videos and clips to be quite beneficial in class as I
believe the use of another visual stimulant would be helpful to students rather than
just listening to the teacher they can see information been given from an outside area
in the form of a fun and friendly video. This could be beneficial as you could use
certain clips to show how other people discuss written work like reviewers of fellow
readers of the same novel and then demonstrating this to the students and explain to
them that this is how you want them to discuss the written work so they have some
idea of where to start rather then asking non relevant questions.

4. Explain why you feel the resources you chose would enhance students’ learning,
eg does the resource demonstrate the concept clearly or give a realistic
understanding. Explain how. (Maximum 300 words for your explanation.)

1. As stated with the first example I believe it would work in favour of the students
understanding as when discussing the concepts of a text some students might not have
fully understood what they have read and a visual aid may enable them to have a
better understanding on what is being discussed rather than becoming lost in
discussion.

2. This could be used to help address any issues the students have with the text in
general rather than answering one question at a time he or she can answer all
questions in one go. This also aiding students in tackling their confidence issues as
they would be able to ask questions anonymously without feeling any excess
pressures on them to speak out in class.

3. I believe this resource is beneficial in the way that it provides information in a

interesting and intriguing manner depending on what clips you use and so forth.
Humour is a great way to keep kids engage and attribute to their learning as they
remember the joy and thus maintain the memory of the learnt material which is why
YouTube can be quite beneficial to education.
