There’s no definition of philosophy that is agreed of all philosophers. If we use the
consideration that views of philosophy are limited by classical and scholastic tradition also in the
modern tradition we could have a wide view the broad areas of agreement.
First, Classical and Scholastic Tradition. Thinkers in this concept tend to assume phylosophy
as habit of mind or a body natural and enable a person/ knowledge that results from use of special
methods that enable a person to explain deeper way to sum of human experiences. They assume
that phylosophy not just one science but it also aggregate of several different sciences. In another
hand, Modern Tradition explain phylosophy from the view between subject and object that make
content of phylosophy. They agreed that phylosophy is reflection to subject experience that the
response of the self to whatever appears to be nonself, Object as the counterpart of subject that
have different values according to the philosophers.
Scope of Philosophy. The surveys that was made to identify branches or domains of
philosophy got the results as logic, phylosophy of nature, psycology; mathematic, philosophy; meta-
physics,epistemology and natural theology.
Logic teaches the modes of correct thinking in term of concept, the judgement, and
reasoning. It has three aspects first, logic functions as a tool or instrument subserving other branches
of learning. Second, logic becomes a discipline in its own right that is concerned with the forms of
thought. Third is phenomenology.
Philosophy of nature and psycology, Philosophy was confined to the roles of evaluating the
proposals od science and of defending human values against the encroachment of technology. With
the rise of sciences more directly concerned with man, various philosophies were developed in
attempts to answer the question: who is man?.
Arts and phylosophy. Greek identify philosophy by using arts concept that gave great
impetus to the arts, with the result that new theories of the nature of arts were proposed by artists
themselves and by philosophers.
Ethics and Politics. The traditional outlook on ethics has insisteed that the good is in thins
and that man choices and conformity to this good affords him whateveer happiness is available in
this life. Among the Greeks the social and political orders held primacy over the individual and his
personal concerns.
