What is Glioblastoma?

● Type of brain cancer


● Very aggressive
● Malignant tumor
● Type of astrocytoma
● Tumor makes its own blood supply

Brain Tumors Grades
● Grade One:
○ Slowly growing
○ Rarely spreads to new tissues
○ Can be completely removed
● Grade two:
○ Grows slowly
○ May spread to new tissues
● Grade Three
○ Grows quickly
○ Likely to spread
○ Tumor cells look very different than normal cells

○ Tumor cells don’t look like normal cells

● Anywhere, but typically:

Symptoms

● Depends on where it is
● Constant headaches
● Seizures
● Changes in mood (frontal lobe)
● Trouble speaking (temporal lobe)

Diagnosis and Treatment

● MRI or CT scan
● Treatment typically is:
○ Surgery
○ Chemotherapy/radiation
○ Electric field therapy
○ Palliative care

● One year: 40.2%


● Two years: 17.4%
● Five years: 5.6%
● Depends on a lot of factors!
● Affects 2-3 out of every 100,000 people
