DUO GRAZIE WIRTTI & MATIAS ARRIAZU

The duo formed by the Brazilian singer-songwriter Grazie Wirtti and the Argentinean guitarist,
composer and arranger Matias Arriazu, brings a contemporary vision to Brazilian and Latin Ameri-
can music that explores with their compositions and arrangements an extreme singularity of new
forms, tone and textures, achieving an intimate and strong expression. The duo invites us to go on
a journey through a vast musical imagery.

Matias, composes songs and arranges music for the eight string guitar making the instrument
sound like an entire orchestra. Grazie writes lyrics and brings her particular interpretation to the
songs.

The great maestro and musician Egberto Gismonti who, enchanted by what he had listened to in
social media, discovered the duo and invited them to participate in his concert in the Centro Cul-
tural CCK, in Buenos Aires.

After this concert, Gismonti proposes to direct their first album, which will be recorded in Germany
and produced by none other than Manfred Eicher, of ECM Records. The album will be distributed
to more than forty european countries.

Together they have toured Argentina, Brazil and Europe. They partnered and shared stage and
recordings with distinguished artists such as Milton Nascimento, Yamandú Costa, Paulo Cesar
Pinheiro, Liliana Herrero, and Egberto Gismonti, among others.
MATIAS ARRIAZU

Matias Arriazu, born in Formosa, Argentina, is a guitarist, composer and musical arranger. He is a
distinguished figure in the eight-string guitar and his compositions have contributed to a new ap-
proach on the instrument. At 17 he won a distinction in the prestigious Cosquin festival with his
group Policromía. Since then, he has been invited to participate in several festivals in Argentina,
Brazil, Japan and Europe. He has shared stage with renowned Argentine musicians such as Mer-
cedes Sosa, Liliana Herrero, Juan Falú and Teresa Parodi, among others. He has also played with
distinguished Brazilian musicians like Yamandú Costa, Rogerio Sousa and Milton Nascimento. In
Rio de Janeiro, Matias shares a duo project with the singer-songwriter Grazie Wirtti, directed by
Egberto Gismonti, presenting their work in Brazil and abroad.

In Buenos Aires, Matias has worked with guitarist, composer and arranger Ernesto Snajer. The duo
released the album “De Dos Argentinos” (Of two Argentineans) in 2016, with compositions by Er-
nesto Snajer; highly appreciated and promoted by the Argentine press. The same year, the album
“Peteî Po” was released, Matias’ first solo album, which he is currently presenting. He is also pre-
paring a duet album with the Argentinean musician Cecilia Pahl. His new work emphasises on con-
temporary compositions from the region known as the Litoral.

Owner of a bold voice, Grazie Wirtti proposes a new way of interpreting Brazilian music today;
through her excellence, she is able to expose a particular manner of singing and interpreting, tran-
scending stylistic boundaries without losing focus on her own territory, Brazil and Latin America, as
a complementary unit within her rhythms and cultures.

A resident of Rio de Janeiro for 13 years, she was a part of the first musical movements in Lapa, in
the bar “Comuna do Semente”, where she sang alongside musicians from the Orquestra Itiberê,
later participating in de DVD released by TV Brazil titled “Geração Semente” singing her first com-
position with Yamandú Costa, accompanied by him.

She resided in Argentina for three years, where she was able to develop and deepen her Latin
American repertoire. She shared prestigious auditoriums, such as the Teatro Ateneo in Buenos
Aires, with fundamental figures in Argentine popular music the likes of Liliana Herrero, Jual Falu,
Aca Seca Trio, Diego Schissi, among others. She presented in the Teatro de Arena de Caixa a
show in tribute to the composer Lupicinio Rodrigues titled “Sarau para Lupicinio” (Sarau for
Lupicinio) with her brother and sister Guto Wirtti and Nina Wirtti. The show had great repercussion
in the public and media. She sang with Elsa Soares, Diogo Nogueria, among others.

In the year 2016 she recorded her first solo album titled Tunguele, where she presented songs
from throughout Latin America, some inedited, counting with the graceful participation of none ot-
her than Milton Nascimento and credited as a composer in partnership with Yamandú Costa and
the Argentinean guitarist Matias Arriazu. The album had its’ first presentation in the SESI theatre in
Rio de Janeiro.

In 2017 she toured Europe and Argentina as a special guest in the concert of the great maestro
Egberto Gismonti.

She is currently working on the pre-production of her next album that will be recored in Germany, in
duo with the Argentinean eight string guitarist Matias Arriazo. The album will be directed and musi-
cally produced by Egberto Gismonti and Manfred Eicher (ECM Records).
In 2018 they will tour Europe and South America, as an integral part of Egberto Gismonti’s group,
participating in festivals and renowned theatres.
