THE KOBALOS

Small humanoid, chaotic evil

The kobalos (pl. kobaloi) (Ancient Greek: Κόβαλος, plural: Κόβαλοι) was a sprite from Greek
Mythology, were mischievous creatures that loved to trick and frighten mortals. They were
companions of Dionsyus and could shape-shift into him. The kobaloi were thought to live in
Euboea or near Thermopylae.
Unlike their short-lived progeny, Kobaloi appear to be immortal, with only a few dozen of
them reappearing throughout history. Often confused with the fey folk their behavior
resembles, kobaloi have no love of nature and rarely allow themselves to be bribed with gifts
of any kind.
Considered by kobalds to be the progenitors of their race, kobaloi are short, distorted
humanoids whose apparent relation to kobalds ends in them both agreeing that they are
members of the same race. Mischief makers to the extreme, kobaloi seem to live for nothing
other than causing trouble, aided by their supernatural ability to steal from creatures and flee
anywhere. Often this trouble is harmless, but almost as commonly the problems they create are
fatal: poisoning food and fowling water, stealing essential tools or interfering with combatants
in otherwise dangerous situations.
ABILITY & WEAKNESS

1. Although usually invisible, a Kobalos can materialize in the form of an animal, fire, a
human being, and a candle.
2. Steal. Combining teleportation and quick hands, a kobaloi can attempt to steal an object
worn or carried by a target it can reach. It makes a Dexterity check opposed by its
target’s Intelligence or Dexterity saving throw. If it succeeds, the kobaloi steals an
object carried by the target. The kobaloi can instead steal an object worn or carried
(such as a weapon or suit of armor) by making their check with disadvantage.
3. Teleporting Leap (Recharges after a Short or Long Rest). The kobaloi can “leap”
from its current location to any location it can see within a distance equal to its speed.
When it does, it leaps into the air and fades into the Ethereal Plane, fading back into the
Material Plane at its chosen location.

Weakness:
If slain, a kobaloi returns to life after 2 to 4 days. When it does, the kobaloi forgets any events
for an equal number of days leading up to its death.
STORY

1. THE KOBALOS
He is one of the Kobaloi, he is a Kobalos, he was a sprite, and he lived in the deepest
part of the forest along with his kind. And no, he did not blend well with others, not
even with his own kind, because of Kobalos mischievous behavior that tend to give
others troubles. His name? He did not has such thing as name. His kind does not care
for naming themself. A name is one of the thing Kobaloi did not care about. He called
himself a free sprite, he lived for nothing but fun and stealing, or scaring mortals.
He had visited so many places, separated with his kind for a short or long period of
time, just to having his own fun. But there’s no such place as Thermopylae, well, he
called it his home. It’s a place were his kind would gather and telling their experiences,
like who’s being the most mischievous or stealing the best stuffs.
Until one day, the idea of stealing from Heracles came to the surface. Heracles was a
Gatekeeper of Olympus, a God of strength, heroes, sports, athletes, health, agriculture,
fertility, trade, oracles and divine protector of mankind. It will be a crazy idea, but also,
Kobaloi found it to be very exciting. They couldn’t wait for the day to be stealing from
Heracles. The time when Heracles sleeping was the best time to steal.
It was one of the night that he could not forget. It was his best achievement. Without
realizing, Kobaloi getting themself in a trouble, a really big one. Heracles captured them
in revenge.
After days of tortured, Heracles found it amusing, as they were still alive. In return,
Heracles gave them to the Lydian Queen Omphale as a gift. Another days of tortured
began after living with the Queen. It was not any better as the Queen found his kind as
an ugly creatures. The Queen ordered to kill all his kind by slain them, but luckily, he
could escaped before that happened, but not the others.
With the energy he had left, he shaped-fit into a mortal, to not be captured again, then
he ran away to German. The reason why he chose German was because he heard that
there were also another kind like Kobaloi, called Kobold. Asking for help from the
Kobold, it was not an easy task. Kobaloi does not need others, or that was what he
thought, but he has no other choice. The Kobold were not accepting him at first, some
still not accepting him even though he had been living with them for years.
But the Kobold was still different from his kind. He thought that their life was boring.
He lost the spark in living. Then he decided to travel the world on his own and he
decided a name for himself. He had a lot of name, from Thomas, Eduard, Maximilian,
Charles, but the one he like most was Theodore. He had changed his forms into many
kinds, from human to animal. But he liked human the most, though he saw them as a
stupid mortals for fighting against their own kind, for a mortal succest that would not
last long.
Until one day he visited Paris. It was back in 1665. He heard about the Parthon Family,
house for the immortals, and joined with them.
