WELCOME TO THE

DIGITAL BLACK CUBE

The files contained within are our best approximation of the physical experience that is the Black
Cube. These PDFs have been carefully setup with two goals in mind: consistency with the printed
product, and usability for you, the users. In many places these goals were at odds—components of
the physical Black Cube, including books, character tomes, most of the handouts, and so on, are
not in a print-friendly size, and changing their sizes would have meant completely changing their
form, and thus they would have been radically different from the physical version. In those cases,
the original forms have been preserved. However, items that are most likely to be printed—card
decks, props, and so on—have been laid out fresh to make it easier to print at home (or through a
print service) and cut out.
You can, of course, scale a document when printing. Generally this is a fine approach, though
please note that some items are sized specifically and should be output at 100%, most notably the
Vance Diagram document to make sure the Vance spell cards fit within properly.
Finally, in the case of the character tomes and pregenerated characters, the files have been set up
two different ways: there’s a tabloid version that can be printed easily with a tabloid-sized printer
(either at home or through a local or online print service), as well as a full-sized version with crop
and fold marks that will require printers that can print oversized files. (21.5” by 11” to be exact.
Some print services may be able to do this.)
Should you send files to your local or online print shop, the vast majority of the files have been
marked with permission to print for personal use.
A few files have been provided in form-fillable versions: The Guiding Hand, the pools sheet, and
the Grimoire Pad sheet. For those who wish to use these files digitally in this way, please note that
not all PDF applications are the same, and may not respect multi-line text fields, font sizes, or the
ability for you to style the text. Acrobat is the recommended application for consistent results, and
is available in mobile as well as desktop versions. (Be sure to save all changes after inputting or
changing text when using it on mobile).
