Context and Rationale
Taking advance classes might be difficult but it is important for it can benefit
students the most. Enhanced Subjects include detailed information about the subject you
will learn. It could further explore the said subject on a broad and deeper level.
Enhanced subjects are additional subjects wherein there are teachers who specialize on
certain majors such as Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Statistics, etc. for STE Curriculum.
Basically, it is concerned with developing competencies in understanding and memorizing.
Additionally, having advance classes can broaden their scope of knowledge with a
specific subject and not just stay at the surface. Its purpose is to help students develop,
widen, and enhance strong academic skills.
There are different teachers teaching a specific subject per grading so that
teachers can focus on what their major subjects are and not stress on how will she/he
teach the other subjects she does not excel. There is also additional classes such as
Advanced Physics, Advanced Math and Advance Statistics. However, this brought a lack
of time for other classes and some were shorten by a few days.
It was proposed on year 2018 and considering that there are different grade
levels, how will it affect 10th graders who will only experience these classes for only
one school year? How about 7th graders who have the privilege to experience these
classes from the start? Thus, Enhanced Subjects for STE students are essential in order
to ameliorate their knowledge and skills.
This action research will examine if enhanced subjects can really enhance the
knowledge of STE students of Antique National School for School Year 2018-2019.
1. Can enhanced subjects really enhance the knowledge of STE students? How?
2. How does having enhanced subjects affect the STE students in every grade level?
3. Is there a difference between the experiences of Grade 7 students where Enhanced
subjects is introduced on their first year and Grade 10 students where enhanced
subjects is introduced on their last year?
1. The teachers should prepare visual presentations in order for the students to
understand the lecture easily.
2. Having appropriate facilities, equipments and apparatuses to match the advance
subject.
3. Lessen the activities or work to not overwhelm the students especially that the
school added advance subjects.
4. In terms of activities and projects, the teachers should give the students enough
time to finish their work before deadline since advance classes were added.
5. Using of technology to explain the lectures furthermore to encourage active
learning.
Action Research Methods
This study will make use of descriptive method of research to delineate if enhanced
subjects can really enhance the knowledge of STE students.
The target participants of the study will be 100 randomly selected STE students
from Grade 7 to Grade 10 of Antique National School who are officially enrolled this
year. The Slovin’s formula will be used to determine the sample size. Stratified sampling
will be used to determine number of participants by dividing the STE students per
grade level and in each class sections, fishbowl or lottery technique will be used.
c. Ethical Issues
The data gathered in this study will be analyzed and interpreted using mean as
descriptive statistical tool.
Action Research Work Plan and Timelines
Cost Estimates
The possible findings of this study will be used by STE teachers as bases for their
classroom strategies in dealing with enhanced subjects.
Likewise, the findings of this study will be utilized in formulating policies and
interventions to address whether enhanced subjects can really enhance the knowledge of STE
students or not.
Finally, the findings of this study will be presented or disseminated to other educators
and researchers in Antique National School.
