Rabies is a fatal viral infection transmitted to man from infected dog bites and has proven
to be a serious safety and public health risk. The number of animal bite cases and
laboratory confirmed dog samples for rabies in our region has increased in recent years
warranting an aggressive, consistent, multi-agency approach to control and ultimately
eliminate the disease.
Practicing the “bayanihan spirit”, LGU veterinarians will come to each province to conduct
a “One Time Big Time” mass vaccination engagement to targeted areas and help
saturate the vaccination coverage. The endeavor hopes to result in being the first region
in the country to become rabies-free, as Marinduque, parts of Palawan and Romblon
have already been recognized as such. Ultimately, prevention of unnecessary death and
grief of families affected by rabies and the serious economic burden that it causes, are
what drives this initiative.
This activity has been launched in Romblon, with the second leg to be conducted in
Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro on 01 – 05 April 2019. As such, may we respectfully
request the participation of the following, to wit:
We look forward to your support and favorable response as we believe that a legacy of a
safe, Rabies-free community and regional cooperation is something we all can share.
