Applied Management Research for
Solving Indigenous Problems
‘As most of the research produced in the
country is international in nature, it tries
to apply well-established western theo-
ries, using the one-size-fits-all approach,
to the local context. However, we have
different cultural, religious and moral
values, different work environment and
etiquette, and a completely different
approach and attitude to work. This
results in unique problems that need
different treatment and unique solu-
tions. For the country to prosper, govern-
ment (public sector), industry, and aca-
demia, known as the triple helix, need to
work together and come up with solu-
tions that puts the country on the path
of sustainable development. The confer-
ence thus has three over-arching
sub-themes:
