Topic: Why are some service providers better than others?

Services refers to the sale and delivery of an intangible product, between a

producer and consumer. services takes place between a producer and
consumer that are, in legal terms, based in different countries, or economies.

Services can be described as the following types:

• Cross border trade, which is defined as delivery of a service from the

territory of one country into the territory of other country;
• Consumption abroad - this mode covers supply of a service of one
country to the service consumer of any other country;
• Commercial presence - which covers services provided by a service
supplier of one country in the territory of any other country, and
• Presence of natural persons - which covers services provided by a
service supplier of one country through the presence of natural persons in
the territory of any other country.

Now days it is accepted that consumer is the king. All the business aim at
providing the services to its consumersTalking to others is a very good way to
building out a vision of tomorrow. One needs to have a base set of ideas for
discussion. Beyond that, finding what different people react to and how can help
sharpen the vision. There isn?t much to worry about other people ?copying?
one?s ideas. If it is that simple, then one better be thinking something different!
Talking to people also helps distill out the message much better rather than
playing around with it in one?s own mind.

Thinking is easier said than done. To think means to be able to drill deep down
and figure out from first principles the key tenets of the vision. This requires going
beyond the superficial and in our world of interruptions, this can be hard to do.

One has to experiment and try out new technologies ? early. This gives a
glimpse of tomorrow?s world. There will be some pain and even some glitches.
But the trajectory of innovation will ensure that things become faster, better and
cheaper. That future world is what one has to build for.

Going to different places is a great way to learn. Free from the physical
limitations of the office, the mind starts to wander free. Seeing how people do
things in other places and putting oneself in different scenarios can be very
educative.

Every organization aims at providing better services to the customers keeping in

mind the requirements, needs of the customers. Therefore the above mentioned
points should be kept in mind in order to provide good customers services.
With the use of e-commerce techniques several organizations aim at providing
better services to it's customers. One of the main requirements in e-commerce is
the ability to accept a form of electronic payment. This form of electronic payment
is referred to as financial electronic data interchange (FEDI). Over the years,
credit cards have become one of the most common forms of payment for e-
commerce transactions.

Switching over to the consumer preferences regarding the restaurants

,franchises like McDonald's has opened up about 50 restaurants in India since
1996 with an investment of about 450 crores .With the aim of providing better
services McDonald's aim at investing about 750 crores by 2003.The better
services provided by McDonald's and KFC has inclined the preferences of the
customers towards them rather than the restaurants.

However majority of the population doesn't prefer these franchises as they are
still restricted to the restaurants and motels in their respective areas.

The emerging mall culture has also changed the scenario of the customers in
the market.People have become trend conscious and they prefer to shop in malls
because of the better services provided under one roof. However the population
residing in the rural areas and some of the people in the urban areas also don't
prefer malls. They are still dependent on the retailers and wholesalers as they
consider the services provided to them better than those in the malls.

Now days the customers also prefer online shopping. For examplePayPal is an
e-commerce business allowing payments and money transfers to be made
through the internet. It serves as an electronic alternative to traditional paper
methods such as checks and money orders. PayPal performs payment
processing for online vendors, auction sites, and other corporate users, for which
it charges a fee. In October 2002, Paypal became a wholly owned subsidiary of
eBay.

According to PayPal's little-updated "About Us" webpage [9], "PayPal has

received close to 20 awards for technical excellence from the internet industry
and the business community at large - most recently the 2003 Webby Award for
Best Finance Site and the 2003 Webby People's Voice Award for Best Finance
Site."

They have won awards since, notably the "Best Finance Services Site" and
"People's Voice Award" at the 2006 Webby Awards [10]. There are various other
companies like best buy, baazi etc.,but pay pal aims and guarantee the pay back
of money if the service is not delivered. The PayPal Buyer Protection Policy
claims that customers may file a buyer complaint if they did not receive an item
or if the item they purchased was not as described. If the buyer used a credit
card, they might get a refund via chargeback from their credit card company.
The telecom industry is advancing like never before. But not all is
blissful for the telecom operators and equipment
providers. Cut throat competition and demanding
customers are pushing telecom companies against a
granite wall. Product life cycles are shrinking and
simultaneously increasing the risks associated with
any new product or service launch. This is also
stoking the merger and acquisition activities along
with the formation of big consortiums to maximize
market share and minimize risks.companies like
Airtel,Bsnl,Hutch,etc.provide provide various services
to satisfy there consumers

They ensure that various schemes and offers are given to the
customers to ensure success of the
organizations.

While discussing about the services provided by the IT industry, name

of the company that strikes our mind is
Dell.Michael Dell the CEO and Chairman of Dell
computers has turned the PC world inside
out.Dell computer has emerged as a runaway
money train. It is the only Fortune 500
company that has increased sales and earnings
by more than 40% a year in each of the past
three years.

Last Summer,Benaron ,had of information technology at Wooleich ,a

British bank with $64 billion in assets decided
the bank needed a computer overhaul. He
wanted to purchase 2,700 Pentium II PCs and
800 servers. Dell was in the competition . " At
first it was between Dell,IBM, and HP but IBM
dropped out because it couldn't match the
price," says Benaron. The HP and Dell bids were
nearly identical ,he says ,except for one critical
detail. The HP reseller would only ship the order
to the bank's headquarters, whereas Dell would
delivr ready –to-boot machines to each of it's
450 branches.At no added cost."That was the
clincher" says Benaron,who estimates
Woolwich saved over $750,000by going with
Dell.
Another perfect example regarding the better services provided can be Wal-
Mart chain of founder discount stores. Sam
Walton, Chairman and CEO,also the of wal-mart,
always considered consumer preferences. He
wanted to provide good quality products to his
customers at discounted prices. According to him
it is not only necessary to meet customer
expectations but also to exceed them. His
philosophy was that the workers of the company or
' associates ' as he calls them are engaged in
providing better services to the customers. So the
key to gaining more customers is to keep the
associates happy. He gave the associates share in
the profits as well as scheme to buy stock options
of the company. As the company earned profits
over the years the associates also profited
immensely through these policies. This boosted
their morale and gave them a sense of
responsibility towards the company and henced
they served their customers more deligently.
