Chiller unit assembly and installation

General

1) Factory assembly, single piece, liquid chiller shall consist of compressor, motor,
lubrication system, cooler, condenser, initial oil and refrigerant operating charges,
microprocessor control system, and documentation required prior to start-up.

2) The unit shall be protected against sea water corrosion to be suitable for shipment in a
standard open top, ocean shipping container.

Piping Requirements – Instrumentation And Safety

1) Pressure gauge shall be provided and installed in readily accessible location in piping
adjacent to the chiller such that they can be easily read from a standing position on the
floor. Gauges shall be installed in the entering and leaving water lines of the cooler and
condenser.

1) Safety Consideration

a. Do not vent refrigerant relief devices within a building.

b. Do not use oxygen to purge line or to pressurise the machine for any purpose.
c. Do not valve off any safety devices.
d. Be sure that all pressure relief devices are properly installed.
e. Do not siphon refrigerant by mouth
f. Do not attempt to cut lines or disconnect flanges or fitting while machine is under
pressure.

g. Do not use eyebolts or eyebolt hole to rig machine sections or entire assembly.
h. Avoid spilling liquid refrigerant on skin or getting it into the eyes. Wash any spills
from the skin with soap and water.
i. Never apply an open flame or live steam to a refrigerant cylinder. Overpressure can
result explosion.
j. Do not climb over a machine. Follow safety procedures when using ladders.
k. Periodically inspect all valves, fittings and piping for corrosion, rust, leaks or damage.
l. Do not attempt to repair or recondition any relief valves when corrosion or build-up of
foreign material. (Rust, dirt, scale etc)

2) Inspection Upon Delivery

a. Inspect for shipping damage before removal. Forward claims if the machines appear
to be damaged or has been torn loose from its anchorage.
b. Check all items against shipping list. Immediately notify if any item is missing.
c. To prevent loss or damage, leave all parts in original packages until installation. All
opening are closed with covers or plugs to prevent dirt and debris from entering.
d. Identify machine – the machine model number, serial number, and heat exchanger
sizes are stamped on machine information plate. Check this information against
shipping papers and job data.

3) Rigging The Machine

a. Chiller unit can be rigged as entire assembly.

b. Lifting machine from points other than those specified may result in serious damage
and personal injury.
c. Rigging equipment/ mobile crane must be adequate for machine weight.

4) Installation Procedure

a. Check the machine location and concrete plinth as per approved drawings.
b. Before hoisting the chiller, install temporarily steel supports (C-channel or z-beams)
under the chiller support plate.
c. Hoist, push and move the chiller unit, if necessary place GI pipe under the steel
support which acts as roller for easy movement of the chiller to the actual position.

d. Replace the steel support with spring isolators by using hydraulic jack.
e. Leveling the Chiller after completion the spring isolator installation work. Adjusting
the screws of the spring isolators can do leveling.
f. Install water piping using job data, piping drawings and procedure outline below:-

i) Remove temperature sensor before welding connecting piping to water nozzles.

ii) Provide openings in water piping for required pressure gauges and thermometers.
iii) Install pipe hangers.

g. Make electrical connections – field wiring must be installed in accordance with job
wiring diagram and all applicable codes.

i) Attach power leads to motor terminals in accordance with job wiring diagram,
observing caution label in terminal box.
ii) Connect control wiring from main motor starter to machine power panel.
