REFLECTIVE ESSAY

If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail. That is the reason of why we learn how to
create a good lesson plan and how much can the lesson plan affect the students.
Based on the simulated teaching that was done in task two, I learnt many things.
There are weaknesses and strength that can be noticed from the simulated teaching.
Not only that, the simulated teaching also taught me on the threats and challenges
when teaching listening and speaking. In this piece of writing, the weaknesses and
the strength of my lesson plan will be enlighten together with the threats that comes
during the simulated teaching.

First and foremost, the strength that I can see from my previous simulated
teaching is the worksheet and organisation that I made is suitable according to the
students level. So we can say that teachers are concern about the students ability. I
prepared two types of worksheet which is one for enrichment and one for remedial.
Due to this, students will not feel left behind because the teachers create things that
suit their level. Although the focus is to teach listening and speaking, we can see that
the worksheet prepared can help the students especially the remedial to recap the
lesson that was teach by the teachers. If they have something confused, they can
have clearer lesson plan doing the worksheet.

On the other hand, the weakness that I can see in this simulated teaching is the
instruction given. For example, when I give instruction to the students, they are not
very clear with my statement. I need to explain more that three times to the students
to make them understand my instruction to join my activities. I think this problem
happen because the not organised sentence structure from me. To solve this problem,
I think I can write the instruction on the whiteboard so that if they cannot understand
my oral instruction, they can read them on the whiteboard. Next, I can show them the
demonstration of how the activity was done so that they have the idea on how to
participate in the lesson.

In addition, the threat that I found from my friends’ feedback and response during
my simulated teaching is the ability to handle the class control can be improved so
that the lesson can be taught smoothly. We cannot expect or assume that all students
will listen to us during the lesson. So, we can use a few alternatives to counter this
problem. So in order to improve this, I can use the traffic light method that use red,
green and orange cards.

In conclusion, the simulated teaching that I made previously help me to improve

my skill in planning a better lesson plan. Not only that, I can also recognise my
strength, weakness and threat during teaching in classroom. Due to that, it really
helps me to improvise my lesson plan and improved myself in the future.
