EVENT REGISTRATION FORM

ABSTRACT
This is an Online event management system software project that serves the functionality of
an event manager. The system allows only registered users to login and new users are
allowed to resister on the application. This is a web application developed in Asp.net and Sql
but desktop application of the same application is also available. The project provides most of
the basic functionality required for an event. It allows the user to select from a list of event
types. Once the user enters an event type eg(Marriage, Dance Show etc), the system then
allows the user to select the date and time of event, place and the event equipment’s. All this
data is logged in the database and the user is given a receipt number for his booking

The above details in the HTML project work by using the basic html tags. Here we are using
basic html tags like <html>, <head>, <body> with their respective closing tags. To make the
project output more better implementing the frames, hyperlinks (<a>…</a>), table tags(<td>,
<tr>) to create table also using the image, background, forms and style tags etc,.

INTRODUCTION
Event management is the application of project management to the creation and
development of large-scale events such as festivals, conferences, ceremonies, weddings,
formal parties, concerts, or conventions. It involves studying the brand, identifying its target
audience, devising the event concept, and coordinating the technical aspects before actually
launching the event.[1]

The process of planning and coordinating the event is usually referred to as event
planning and which can include budgeting, scheduling, site selection, acquiring
necessary permits, coordinating transportation and parking, arranging for speakers or
entertainers, arranging decor, event security, catering, coordinating with third party vendors,
and emergency plans. Each event is different in its nature so process of planning & execution
of each event differs on basis of type of event.

The events industry now includes events of all sizes from the Olympics down to business
breakfast meetings. Many industries, charitable organizations, and interest groups hold events
in order to market themselves, build business relationships, raise money, or celebrate
achievement.

Event management might be a tool for strategic marketing and communication, used by
companies of every size. Companies can benefit from promotional events as a way to
communicate with current and potential customers. For instance, these advertising-focused
events can occur as press conferences, promotional events, or product launches.

Event managers may also use traditional news media in order to target their audience, hoping
to generate media coverage which will reach thousands or millions of people. They can also
invite their audience to their events and reach them at the actual event

EVENT REGISTRATION FORM

IMPORTANCE

1) Saves you time and money

By outsourcing your event management to a company that runs events day in

day out, you will save time and money. An event management company has
established relationships with hotels, venues and suppliers and can negotiate
excellent rates on your behalf. They also know all the added value you can get –
getting you more for your money and adding to the experience. All these insider
relationships and tips mean you save money on everything you need.

An event management partner saves you time because all you have to do is
agree the date and location with the event company and the rest will be taken
care of. Additional things you make overlook like insurance get covered as part
of the service and it is great to hire a company who you can trust to look after
everything from the original concept to the delivery on the day.

An event management company will save you and your team late nights,
headaches and the hassles of organising the event yourself.

2) Gives you creative ideas and proven event formats that will work for you
Event organisers will give you new and exciting ideas for your events – formats
that are tried and tested and solutions they know will work well and are tailored
specifically for you. Depending on your requirements, they will recommend an
event format to suit you, your audience and your budget. Wow factor doesn’t
have to break the budget! Event managers bring a lot of experience into play
which means you can be confident that your event will be a success.

3) Expert planning and budget management to ensure overall event success

The initial brief and planning is critical to a flawlessly executed event. A
successful event requires a detailed master plan and a timeline and budget that

SRI RAMA KRISHNA DEGREE(AUTONOMOUS) COLLEGE Page 5

EVENT REGISTRATION FORM

is adhered to. An event management company will create these for you and
agree from the outset the key objectives, responsibilities and targets. This plan
details every logistical and sales element that needs to take place and is the
working bible of any event manager. It will be a working document and
continually updated, and will give you the flexibility and peace of mind to make
sure all elements of your event are taken care of. The budget will be created by
an experienced event planner who understands ALL the costs involved and the
variances that can occur. This will be managed and any variances to plan
highlighted and appropriate actions taken. There is no re-inventing the wheel
and learning by your mistakes as an event management company will ensure
you success from the get-go. After all event management is a minefield and no-
one can afford to make mistakes.

4) Technology that gives your attendees a professional and slick journey

Event management companies use an array of tools and software that allows
them to communicate with attendees slickly and professionally. This can be
anything from creating an event specific website that showcases all your event
details such as the conference programme, map, attendee list, the exhibitor list,
speaker photos and biographies – to online registration. The tools will take the
attendee right through to the delivery of joining instructions and finally a text
message reminder of the venue postcode the day before. These systems ensure
your event is professional and slick for all attendees.

Another key area of technology is the AV requirements of your event and to

select and work with an AV team that deliver the best solution with the best
pricing. Event management companies will have trusted suppliers that they
work with and know will deliver every time – and if you’re on a tight budget
it’s essential to know what you can and can’t do without.

SRI RAMA KRISHNA DEGREE(AUTONOMOUS) COLLEGE Page 6

5) Professional delivery on the day

The two most vital ingredients to a slick event delivery onsite is firstly
preparing a detailed event plan for all to use. This would list day by day, hour
by hour what rooms would be used, how they should be set, what deliveries are
expected, what time refreshment, lunch and dinners should be ready, which staff
are responsible for what and so on. And secondly having a well briefed and
experienced team managed by an event director with responsibility for the
overall event. An event management company would ensure both of these
allowing you to network and focus on enjoying the event with your guests. In
particular business clients appreciate full attention from their hosts and are open
to building relationships and planning future business endeavours during an
event.

6) Managing your risk and keeping you and your attendees safe
An event is full of uncertainties that might be encountered like power failure, a
medical emergency or even a fire. This is where using an event management
company pays dividends as you’ll have experienced staff onsite that would
know what to do should an incident arise. Prior to the event a good health &
safety management plan would have been devised and submitted to the venue.
This would determine all the risks and implementation of the strategies to help
remove the risk.

Choosing to hire an event management company just makes good sense if you
want to have a successful event that you and your guests can enjoy. All the
planning and management of your event will be so much simpler when handled
by an event management company

APPLICATIONS
If you’re an event or conference organizer, perhaps you are good at juggling multiple tasks
under time pressure. You want to make sure everything is in place, which is not a simple
process when doing it manually yourself. Especially for corporate events and
business/academic conferences, there are some extra things you have to care about, such as
attendees’ satisfaction and event’s ROI.

With that in mind, an event management software becomes an event planner’s best friend.
There are many conference management tools that can save you time and keep things
organized. Just keep in mind that it’s not one size fits all, and each tool has its own purpose.
Before truly committing, it is recommended that you explore and compare a variety of
popular event and conference management softwares to find the best one that meets your
needs.

How to Choose the Best Event Management Software

Before you dive into event organizers’ favorite event management software, check this guide
for better comparison:

1. Be clear about what you need: ticketing system? Web or mobile brochure? Or also for
attendee engagement?

2. Understand different strengths of event management software. Are they more like all-
in-one solutions or specialized for a particular task?

3. Check if they are mobile-friendly

4. Read reviews in app stores or user communities

5. Ask for a demo and check how easily you can adopt

6. Check if they are good fit for your event’s type and needs: e.g. conference
management, lead retrieval for expo.

Organizers’ Favorite Event Management Software

1. Eventbrite

It is a popular ticketing solution for all kinds of events ranging from small meetups to large
concerts. The system is customizable and allows people to register from their phones. You
can use it to send email confirmations and reminders.

They charge an extra 2.5% of the ticket price plus $1.99 per ticket and you can pass this fee
onto the ticket buyers. While Eventbrite is well known, some organizers think the fee is a bit
high.

Summary: Popular for smaller events or entertainment events. A bit pricey compared to other
registration software or all-in-one event planning tools.

There are so many event planning software but most are specialized for one function. It is time
consuming and pricey to juggle multiple pieces of software. Whova all-in-one event management
software enables you to seamlessly manage your event from beginning to end within one system. It
provides flexibility to opt in/out certain functionalities according to your needs: e.g. time-saving
logistic management tools, conference management software, attendee and exhibitor engagement
solutions, etc.

3. Cvent

Cvent has been in the event market for many years and it provides software and services for
event management such as venue sourcing, housing, traveling, online registration, etc. Their
venue search option is useful, but it is limited to hotels. It’s a good option for high-end events
where the cost is less of a concern. Users like Cvent’s comprehensive functionality but the
complexity is a common complaint.

ADVANTAGES
Event management firms engage in smooth execution of ideas as planned. They brace
themselves even for contingencies that might crop up like a sore thumb. They have personnel
with a wide range of experience which they bring in onto the scenario to ensure that only the
best be delivered. It is a multi-faced profession and often demands specialists that cater to
different aspects.

Saves time and money:

By outsourcing event management to companies who deal with them, a company saves time
and money, though this fact is still a hot debate. Truth is: an event management company has
direct links with suppliers and other concerned people who help them get good rates for
requirements concerning a particular event. It saves time because the customer would just
have to pick the dates, the rest being borne by the event management company. Even in the
matters of personal events for instance, weddings, it is great to hire an event management
company to look after the proceedings and save the customer from the hassles of single-
handedly organizing the wedding themselves.

Inflow of creative ideas:

Event organizers come up with new and exciting ideas for holding events. Depending on the
requirements of the clients, event managers can do a lot of things with any event to bring it
alive. Event managers also bring a lot of their experience into play which is an added asset
for customers. They also give customers the opportunity to have customized events.

Increased customer satisfaction levels:

With the work being in “safe” hands, the company assures the customer of high satisfaction
levels. The event management company ensures that there is no stone unturned in offering
high level of expertise to the customers who bestow their faith in them. Unnecessary
predicaments like misappropriation are averted while the customer is held as the priority
when it comes to dealings. The consistency of availability of services is one reason why
companies engage event management companies.

End to end execution:

End-to-end event technology encompasses broadly the modus operandi of the event
management company roped-in. Strategically speaking a company should always aim at how
they are supposed to conduct the event taking in all the factors and a measure for
contingency. A proper management scheme must be drafted to ensure that things do not fall
out of place. With changing times, software is essential to exercise absolute control over
conducting a colloquium or a likewise event. A good management company is the one that
brings all of the aforementioned into consideration before embarking on a project.

DISADVANTAGES
Event planning is a dynamic industry involving many responsibilities. A typical event
planner is in charge of coordinating the specifics of an event, like a conference dinner or
wedding. They typically order food, arrange floor plans and meet with clients multiple times
to discuss all related details. Event planners can sometimes obtain a position in the field with
only previous experience, or they may find that a bachelor's degree may be required. While
there are fun aspects to being an event planner, possible disadvantages are present as well.

Stress

A 2012 study by Career Cast found the job of coordinating events to be one of the most
stressful fields to pursue. The career ranks up there with police officers and enlisted military
personnel. Events require a lot of successful meeting of deadlines, which can create stress.
Event planners also deal with multiple personalities on a daily basis and have interactions
with vendors, staff and their clients. There are a lot of demands in a short period of time,
which creates a magnitude of stress.

Unpredictable Hours

Event planning is a job where planners customarily work until the event is over. These are
typically not 8-5 jobs. A planner might have to work the entire weekend for 12-hour days if
they're in charge of an event. Clients like to know that they can trust the person overseeing
the event and the planner provides this security by being present on site. If the client knows
that they can call on the planner to be at the event itself to take care of any circumstances that
come up, they're more likely to be a happy client.

Uneven Schedule

Along with experiencing long hours, an event planner can have an uneven work schedule.
Certain events like conferences are planned months in advance and take place over the course
of several days, or even just part of a weekend. If the event planner is self-employed, he or
she may go through a period of time without another event to organize. Planners without
steady work must budget during these times, which can be a disadvantage to a more typical
work schedule.

EVENT REGISTRATION FORM

Meeting Budgets

Staying within the budget that a client provides is another disadvantage to being an event
planner. Often times, a client's desired outcome may be more expensive than the budget
affords. It is then the event planner's job to either create the vision within the allowed amount
of money, or report the bad news to the client. Either way, staying within a budget when
trying to make someone's dream become a reality can be stressful.

REQUIREMENT ANALYSIS

“Website Requirement analysis” is a process that assists in analyzing challenges and

opportunities with respect to the business model of the website. This task is accomplished by
Web Analysts and the outcome is detailed documents, which plays pivotal role in laying the
technology foundation, deployment, maintenance and upgrading of the portals and feature
rich web application.

The process may sound easy, but crafting a requirement analysis document is a task that
needs exposure, experience, understanding of web technologies and a dynamic mind to map
needs of the business model into a functional solution. The end result of this process is
detailed documents depicting all necessary requisites for deploying a web-platform. Some
call these documents ‘SRS’ while some address these as ‘scope of Work'. Knowing the
importance of these documents, through this article I am listing few essential elements heads
these documents should include to serve their purpose!

Websites are of heterogeneous nature catering multiple audiences, for instance we have
portfolio websites to showcase talent and service websites for internet promotions and
marketing etc. If a website fails the expectations of a firm to bring business and promote the
same at a global level then whatever the reason may be, the website will be termed as a bad
investment. This is why we have analysts who assert requirements of a website to make it
efficient to function & run while adhering standards defined for web & search engines and at
the same time keeping management an easy task for the webmasters.

TECHNOLOGY DESCRIPTION

HTML

HTML (hyper text markup language) is a language used to create hypertext documents that
have hyper links embedded in them. It consists of tags embedded in the text of a document
with HTML. We can build web pages or web document s. it is basically a formatting
language and not a programming language. The browser reading the document interprets
mark up tags to help format the document for subsequent display to a reader.

HTML is a language for describing structured documents. HTML is a platform independent.

WWW (world wide web) pages are written using HTML. HTML tags control in part the
representation of the WWW page when view with web browser. The browser interprets
HTML tags in the web document and displays it. Different browsers show data differently.
Examples of browsers used to be web pages include:

 Netscape
 Internet Explorer

HTML is a document-layout and hyperlink-specification language. It defines the syntax and

placement of special, embedded directions that aren't displayed by the browser, but tell it how
to display the contents of the document, including text, images, and other support media. The
language also tells you how to make a document interactive through special hypertext links,
which connect your document with other documents--on either your computer or someone
else's, as well as with other Internet resources, like FTP and Gopher.

First of all what is hypertext? It is any kind of text that have links embedded in it. These links
are also called hyperlinks and a good example of this is the Windows. 'Help' features. These
links point to files anywhere on the Web. HTML documents contain text, images etc., in fact
they may also have audio video and multimedia files as well and this is known as
hypermedia. HTML pages are transferred from one to another using HTTP (Hyper Text

Transfer Protocol), which is a protocol at the application level and sits on top of the TCP/IP.

Applications on the Web are basically client/server in architecture where HTML forms are

viewed at the client end and a HTTP server (Web server ) is at the server side. A browser

such as Netscape Navigator/Internet Explorer is required to view HTML pages. Popular

Web servers are IIS (Internet Information Server) , Netscape Enterprise Server, Java Web

Server and Apache.

HTML- Features

HTML is a mark-up language. In an electronic document, the mark-up is the codes,

embedded with the document text which store information required for electronic processing
SGML (Standard Generalized Markup Language) is the base language from which all
markup languages are derived from HTML is one such, so is XML.
The codes are theset of tags that define how your text should be formatted. The

browsers parse through these tags and display the text, images etc accordingly. The other

features of HTML are listed below

HTML documents are ASCII files

HTML are typically small in size easy to send across the Net
Cross platform and device independent
Supports text, images multi-media etc.

HTML Tags

A simple HTML file is shown below. You should save this file with .html extension and
open it in the browser. Tags are enclosed in <> brackets and end with</>, some tags

Preformatted tags that display text as it appears in the HTML source document.

Syntax:

<PRE>…….</PRE>

Links

Links are the most essential of a HTML page. Links can point to files in the same machine, or
files in other machines on the internet. The links can also point to other parts of the same
document. The <A> tag is used for this. Links are of two types relative and absolute paths.
Relative paths are relative to particular directory.

Example:

<a href =”file.html”> Click </a>

Frames

A frame is an independent scrolling region or window in a Web page .A Web page can be
divided in to a number of frames and the frames can be nested. each frame can display a
separate HTML file. The <frame> tag is used for this.

A collection of frames is frameset. Within a frameset there will be frames. The portion of
these frames is given in %, the frames can be permitted to be resized or not. Scrollbars are
automatically added to frames when the matter in the frame exceeds the area of the frame.

Example:

Forms

Forms are essential for any client/server applications, and must always the

applications on the Web are client/server in architecture.HTML2.0 and upwards support these
fill out forms. It is the forms that add interaction to otherwise static Web pages. The forms
once filled in by the user, needs be processed ,and this is handled by the Web server which in
turn triggers a CGI , servlet , ASP or any other technology such as CORBA objects/

With all its multimedia-enabling, new page layout features, and the hot technologies that give
life to HTML documents over the Internet, it is also important to understand the language's
limitations: HTML is not a word processing tool, a desktop publishing solution, or even a
programming language, for that matter. That's because its fundamental purpose is to define
the structure and appearance of documents and document families so that they might be
delivered quickly and easily to a user over a network for rendering on a variety of display
devices.

Structure of an HTML Document:

An HTML document consists of text, which defines the content of the document, and tags,
which define the structure and appearance of the document. The structure of an HTML
document is simple, too, consisting of an outer <html> tag enclosing the document header
and body:

<html>
<head>
<title>Barebones HTML Document</title>
</head>
<body>
This illustrates, in a very <I>simp</I>le way,
The basic structure of an HTML document.
</body>
</html>

Each document has a head and a body, delimited by the <head> and <body> tags. The head is
where you give your HTML document a title and where you indicate other parameters the
browser may use when displaying the document. The body is where you put the actual
contents of the HTML document. This includes the text for display and document control
markers (tags) that advise the browser how to display the text. Tags also reference special-
effects files including graphics and sound, and indicate the hot spots (hyperlinks and anchors)
that link your document to other documents.

Forms are used to collect data inputted by a user. They can be used as an interface for a web
application, for example, or to send data across the web

form defines the form and within this tag, if you are using a form for a user to submit
information (which we are assuming at this level), an action attribute is needed to tell
the form where its contents will be sent to.
The method attribute tells the form how the data in it is going to be sent and it can have
the value get, which is default, and latches the form information onto a web address,
or post, which (essentially) invisibly sends the form’s information.

SRI RAMA KRISHNA DEGREE(AUTONOMOUS) COLLEGE Page 22

EVENT REGISTRATION FORM

get is used for shorter chunks of non-sensitive information - you might see the information
you have submitted in a web site’s search to appear in the web address of its search results
page, for example. post is used for lengthier, more secure submissions, such as in contact
forms.
he input tag is the daddy of the form world. It can take a multitude of guises, the most
common of which are outlined below (see the input reference page for the whole crazy
family):
 <input type="text"> or simply <input> is a standard textbox. This can also have
a value attribute, which sets the initial text in the textbox.
 <input type="password"> is similar to the textbox, but the characters typed in by the
user will be hidden.
 <input type="checkbox"> is a checkbox, which can be toggled on and off by the user.
This can also have a checked attribute (<input type="checkbox" checked>- the attribute
doesn’t require a value), and makes the initial state of the check box to be switched on,
as it were.
 <input type="radio"> is similar to a checkbox, but the user can only select one radio
button in a group. This can also have a checked attribute.
 <input type="submit"> is a button that when selected will submit the form. You can
control the text that appears on the submit button with the value attribute, for
example <input type="submit" value="Ooo. Look. Text on a button. Wow">.
Note that, like img and br tags, the input tag, which doesn’t surround any content, doesn’t
require a closing tag.

textarea

textarea is, basically, a large, multi-line textbox. The anticipated number of rows and
columns can be defined with rows and cols attributes, although you can manipulate the
size to your heart’s content using CSS.

<textarea rows="5" cols="20">A big load of text</textarea>

Any text you choose to place between the opening and closing tags (in this case “a big
load of text”) will form the initial value of the text area.

SRI RAMA KRISHNA DEGREE(AUTONOMOUS) COLLEGE Page 23

EVENT REGISTRATION FORM

select

The select tag works with the option tag to make drop-down select boxes.

<select>
<option>Option 1</option>
<option>Option 2</option>
<option value="third option">Option 3</option>
</select>

When the form is submitted, the value of the selected option will be sent. This value will
be the text between the selected opening and closing option tag unless an explicit value
is specified with the valueattribute, in which case this will be sent instead. So, in the
above example, if the first item is selected, “Option 1” will be sent, if the third item is
selected, “third option” will be sent.
Similar to the checked attribute of checkboxes and radio buttons, an option tag can also
have a selected attribute, to start off with one of the items already being selected,
eg. <option selected>Rodent</option> would pre-select “Rodent” from the items.

Names

All of the tags mentioned above will look very nice presented on the page but if you
hook up your form to a form-handling script, they will all be ignored. This is because the
form fields need names. So to all of the fields, the attribute name needs to be added, for
example <input type="text" name="talkingsponge">.

HTML also defines special elements for defining text with a special meaning.

HTML uses elements like <b> and <i> for formatting output, like bold or italic text.

Formatting elements were designed to display special types of text:

 <b> - Bold text

 <strong> - Important text

HTML Versions

First, a quick rundown of all the HTML versions since HTML was invented.

 HTML 1.0: This was the barebones version of HTML and the very first release of the
language.

 HTML 2.0: This version was introduced in 1995. It gradually evolved, allowing extra
capabilities including form-based file upload, tables, client-side image maps and
internationalization.

 HTML 3.2: In an attempt to ensure development of standards for the World Wide
Web, the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) was founded by Tim Berners-Lee in
1994. By 1997, they published HTML 3.2.

 HTML 4.0: Later in 1997, the W3C released HTML 4.0 — a version that adopted
many browser-specific element types and attributes.

 HTML 4.0 was later reissued with minor edits in 1998.

 HTML 4.01: In December 1999, HTML 4.01 was released.

 XHTML: The specifications were introduced in 2000 and it was recommended to be

used as the joint-standard with HTML 4.01. It incorporated XML to ensure code is
properly written and to ensure interoperability between programming languages.

 HTML5: The W3C published HTML5 as a recommendation in October 2014 and

later released HTML 5.1 in November 2016.

Choosing Your HTML Editor

If you are thinking of creating web pages in HTML, you need an HTML editor. There are
several benefits to using an HTML editor.

SRI RAMA KRISHNA DEGREE(AUTONOMOUS) COLLEGE Page 25

EVENT REGISTRATION FORM

A good HTML editor will keep your code clean and organized. It will also detect when you
open a new tag and automatically close it to avoid you having a buggy code and as a result
reducing how much typing you have to do. Most HTML editors today allow you to preview
your web page to see how it will look like in a web browser using their WYSIWYG feature.

Once you’ve decided on the HTML editor you want to use, the next step is to understand the
building blocks of HTML. When coding in HTML, it is essential to understand these building
blocks. They include tags, attributes and elements. We will take a basic look at them below:

Introduction to Tags

Once you’re into HTML, the first thing you need to understand is tags. In essence, tags
separate normal text from HTML code.

Consequently, when it comes to HTML, tags make the difference between whether your
document is displayed as ordinary text or “transformed text” which is basically a code of text
which appears to display a series of things (hyperlinks, images, media, or other methods of
formatting) based on what it is instructed to display based on tags.

Let’s take a look at the word “He is a boy” as an example:

 In ordinary text format you get: He is a boy.

 In bold text format you get: He is a boy.

To achieve what we have in the bold format you have to use the <b> tag.

There are a few things you should understand about tags:

 Tags are practically the building block of HTML – you can’t do HTML without tags!
If you’re stuck on which tag to use, be sure to check out our HTML periodic table.

 Almost every open tag must be closed. Keep in mind that there are exceptions. An
example of a tag that does not have to be closed is an empty tag, such as the line
break: <br>.

SRI RAMA KRISHNA DEGREE(AUTONOMOUS) COLLEGE Page 26

EVENT REGISTRATION FORM

 Tags are contained in less than (“<”) and greater than (“>”) angle bracket. Closing
tags contain a trailing slash that becomes before the name of the tag being closed.
Example of an open tag: <b>. Example of a closed tag </b>.

 Every HTML file begins with the opening tag <html> and ends with the closing tag
</html>. The first line of the HTML file should declare the type of document so that
the browser knows what HTML flavor you use. This is why you see HTML pages
start with “<!DOCTYPE html>” before the HTML code begins

The section that follows the <head> tag usually contains information about the document
such as its title, meta tags and where to locate its CSS file – content which is not visible
directly on the browser page. The section between “<body> and </body>” (which we
represented with “MAIN CONTENT”) is where the main content of the HTML file, that the
viewer will see in the browser, is located. This includes everything from the first paragraph to
hyperlinks to formatting to multimedia and everything else.

In the “He is a boy” (in bold) example, we have this in HTML: <b>He is a boy</b>. The text
“He is a boy” is surrounded by an open and closed tag. Everything, including the opening tag,
the content and the close tag is an element.

When a tag is opened, content is introduced and the tag is closed, we have an element.

An element could be in a basic form or in a complex form. Why? Because anything in

between an open tag and a closed tag as well as those tags is an element. It means that we can
have elements within an element. In our current example, “he is a boy” (<b>He is a boy</b>)
is an element.

You will notice that we said earlier that the HTML documents contain the <body> tag before
the content begins. The content could include hundreds of different elements, but all these
elements are part of the “body” element (since the body element is open, contains content and
is then closed).

Introduction to Attributes

While HTML documents basically use tags for everything, we sometimes want to
communicate additional information inside an element. In this case, we use an attribute. The

SRI RAMA KRISHNA DEGREE(AUTONOMOUS) COLLEGE Page 27

attribute is used to define the characteristics of an element, it’s used inside the opening tag of
the element. Attributes are made up of a name and a value.

Note that the value of an attribute is placed inside a quotation mark using the format <tag
attribute=”value”>Your Text</tag>.

n HTML, iframes defines an inline frame. An inline frame enables you present another
HTML document within the same window.

The W3C refers to an iframe as a nested browsing context. In other words, you can browse an
HTML document that is nested inside another. Typically the iframe takes up a small portion
of the document, but you could make it any size you like.

Inline frames are often used in advertising. Many advertisers and advertising networks use
iframes to display their ad within a publisher's website. Benefits of using iframes for
advertising include more control for the advertiser over how the ad is displayed, as well as
enhanced performance monitoring.

Creating an iframe

To create an iframe, use the <iframe> tag. The src attribute provides the URL of the
external document to use within the iframe. The seamless attribute determines that it should
blend seamlessly into the containing document, so that it actually appears to be part of the
containing document.

Also, you can set the width and height using the width and height attributes.

There are a few other attributes that you can use with inline frames. See
the <iframe> element for more details.

HTML Frames

Before we leave the subject of iframes, let's talk about frames (as opposed to iframes).

SRI RAMA KRISHNA DEGREE(AUTONOMOUS) COLLEGE Page 28

EVENT REGISTRATION FORM

HTML frames allow you to split the whole window up into different frames. For example,
you can have a frame to display your left menu, another frame to display the top menu, and
another frame to display the main content area. With frames, your HTML document can be
made up of many different pages.

HTML frames were once popular on the web, however, their usage has dwindled over the
years. This is mainly due to the various usability issues that they can cause, issues with search
engine optimization, as well as the fact that frames are being discontinued (as of HTML5).

Having said that, there are many valid arguments for using frames within some contexts. If
you're interested, check out these HTML5 compliant frames templates that use CSS to
provide frames-based functionality, while escaping most of the usability issues inherent in
tHTML entities (also known as character entity references) enable you to add a wide range
of characters to an HTML document. Characters ranging from icons, mathematical operators,
geometric shapes, arrows, multilingual scripts, and much more, can be displayed in a web
page by adding a small line of text.

For example, you can add a copyright symbol to a web page by typing &copy;. You could
also use its Unicode hexadecimal value (&#x000A9;) or decimal value (&#169;) if you prefer.

Another important example is the less-than and greater-than signs (i.e. < and >. These signs
have special meaning in HTML documents. When the browser sees them it thinks it's an
HTML tag and tries to interpret it as such.

If one day you actually wanted to display a greater-than sign on your webpage, you would
need to use the HTML entity (or one of the numeric values). So, you could type &gt; and it
will be displayed to your users instead of being interpreted by the browser.

he traditional frames based websites.

In this case we did actually change the markup slightly by adding IDs to the elements. We
didn't need to do this, but it's good practice. By doing this, we ensure that the grid areas will

SRI RAMA KRISHNA DEGREE(AUTONOMOUS) COLLEGE Page 29

EVENT REGISTRATION FORM

be occupied only by the elements with the correct ID. If we didn't do this, we could run into
major problems if we ever add another element of the same name (for example,
another header element) to the page.

Responsive Layouts

Responsive layouts adjust according to the screen size being used to view the website. This
means that your website will probably look different on a mobile phone vs a tablet vs a
desktop computer. The website adjusts itself to provide the best layout for the screen size.

We can modify the above example so that it uses a different layout on small devices such as
mobile phones.

have all the elements stacked upon each other (unless you're viewing this example on a very
wide screen). Stacking the elements like this is ideal for small devices such as mobile phones.
Click the Preview button to view it in a new window (which should display the original
layout — unless you're already viewing this on a small device).
