I. How many of these videos (mention the title of the videos) feature men

dressed in bathing suits or tight-fitting outfits? How about women?

Out of all the music videos given above, there were only two videos that feature

men dressed in tight-fitting and revealing outfits and those were Party for One by

Carly Rae Jepsen and Midnight by Black Honey. The two videos mentioned were

also the same video that featured women in tight-fitting and revealing outfits.

II. Look at the five video materials. How these videos do presents women?

How do they present the men? What are these genders wearing, doing, and

talking about?

All of the music video materials presents the empowerment of women. Each video

has its own ways in presenting it. The first video – Midnight by Black Honey and the

last video – I don’t know about you by Chris Lane, shows that women can be

manipulative and can take control over men. It presented that women knows their

ways on how to move out from their situation which indicates that women know how

to play the game being put up with them. For the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th music video, Babe

by Sugarland ft. Taylor Swift, Delicate by Taylor Swift, and Party for One by Carly Rae

Jepsen showed the freedom of women. It has different ways like, how a woman can

freely express of who she is, how a woman finally reach her freedom, and how a

woman made her realization from the bitterness of her toxic relationship. Freedom is

always with women, it will just depends on them on how they would strengthen it and

base on the music video, acceptance is their key.

Men were presented on all of the music videos based on their commonly seen

gender role. Someone who is strong enough to guard women, someone who do the
dirty acts, someone who buys you a drink thinking that they can have you through it,

and lastly, a man who chooses to play their gender role away from their sex.

They are wearing dresses that they thought would show who really they are (Well

obviously it will always be based on the concept of the video presented). Each gender

wanted to show everyone that we all have our own strength that if only we have the

courage to embrace them, then gender bias and sexism will not be experienced

anymore. If only every individual knows their true role in life, there wouldn’t be any

chaos anymore like what happened in the music video, Babe by Sugarland. If only

men and women will help each other in empowering their nature and will try to

strengthen their weaknesses, acceptance will certainly follow.

III. When men show off their bodies and display their sexuality, are they

presenting themselves as objects to be desired and possessed; or are they

showing off their virility and power over women? Think about it. Only women

move in a sexual or seductive manner. Why is this the case?

Personally, I can say that they are showing off their virility over women basically

because I see them as someone who possess vigorous characteristics which implies

that they doesn’t need to be an object to be coveted but a user of an object.

Honestly speaking, the role that every woman played in music videos is degrading.

Well maybe not all of them but I can put it to 90% compared to the 10% of empowering

women. It seems to me that women are just objects for every man’s sexuality. There

are some music videos that doesn’t even show women’s face but instead they will just

show the body which characterized her of having no self-identity. At some point, it is

quite disappointing that these women will allow other people to use them as objects in

meeting man’s pleasures but still, they doesn’t have a choice since this is their other
way in earning money. Another thing, women moving seductively in music videos also

portrays her low self-image and subordination which place men superior. Also, using

this concept in music videos is another way of promotion and commercializing since

as humans, accept it or not, we tend to pay more attention on anything that displays

sexuality. Our eyes catches quicker anything that shows sexual activities which drives

our deeper instincts to watch or patronize what has been commercialize. Other women

thought that their worth is to attract men where in fact it isn’t.

Yes this is the most used scenario in music videos but what I chose to present in

this project are the music videos that depicts women empowerment. This issue has

been quietly discussed by many but to tell you, we can’t stop this anymore not until

some law about “no to sexuality” will be imposed. We women must not be objectify

thus, women must be empowered and must be respected.
