I. PREPARATION

1. Overall Objectives of the Lesson:

a. Ability to comprehend the monologue

b. Knowledge of reading a play

c. Ability to explicate an extract

d. Ability to answer questions about language knowledge

2. Behavioral Objectives:

By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:

a. Read a monologue from a play

b. Answer the comprehension question related to the monologue

c. ability to analyze a monologue

d. explicate an extract from the monologue

II. PRESENTATION

1. Warm-up and Motivation:

The teacher greets the students. And, the students greet the teacher. So, the teacher
starts the lesson by showing a painting named “Three lives of man” by Tiziano Veccelio.
Then, he asks the students what they see in the painting. He takes their ideas about it and
comments on the painting himself. Moreover, he gives an article named “A Man’s Life
Cycle”. The scientific stages of a man’s life are mentioned in the article. The article is related
to the monologue that will be read later. After reading that article, the teacher asks the
students to write the names of the stages of man’s life. After that the teacher shows a short
video about a man’s life from beginning to the end.

2. Stating the Instructional Objectives:

By the end of the lesson, the students should be able to discuss the monologue and
interpret the poem using their own words.

3. Presenting the Instructional Objectives:

In the presentation part of the lesson, the teacher has a monologue named “the Seven
Ages of Man” from “As You Like” it by William Shakespeare for the students. There are
some missing words in the monologue and the teacher asks the students to guess the words
reading the monologue. Following taking the students’ predictions, he makes them to listen to
a video in which the monologue is performed by a native speaker. They write the true words
in the blanks and read the monologue aloud.

III. Practice

As a practice, the teacher gives some words and asks the students to match them with
their antonyms. Then, he gives a chart and asks the students to fill the chart writing the names
of the stages and their characteristics that Shakespeare mentions in the monologue. After that
the teacher asks three four comprehension questions related to the monologue. The students
read their answers aloud.

IV. Production

As a production, the teacher directs the students to be with their partner. Then, he
gives an extract from the monologue and he asks the students to explicate the extract. Lastly,
the students read their own sentences.

V. Summary

Finally, the teacher finishes the lesson by saying “Every stage of life is worth to live.
Just enjoy the life”. And, the teacher says “That’s all for today. See you next week.”
