Questions and Answers
Meta Group, Aaron Zornes
(June 96)

"Best of breed appears to be an attractive approach for

DataWarehousing. In reality, however, the integration
of multiple "best-of-breed" products results in a very
expensive situation for most companies. The best
practice solution - the most cost-effective solution - is
to get as much of the Data Warehouse as you can from
one vendor and then fill in the holes with other
products."

"Best-of-breed solutions can be very misleading. Best-

of breed is not necessarily the best solution when it
comes to cost effectiveness and the ability to gain
control of a situation. Many of us have tried to integrate
best-of-breed products. SAS has a number of best-of-
breed products and provides very good end-to-end
integration between them."
