IATA/UFTAA QUALIFICATIONS
The IATA/UFTAA programme jointly offered by
International Air Transport Association along with the
United Federation of Travel Agents' Association is the
most complete travel and tourism training programme

professional competence. The qualifications offered are
recognized under the terms of the IATA Resolutions
applicable to IATA's accreditation of travel agents.

HIGHLIGHTS
Each level of the IATA /UFTAA Programme comprises of two
papers
To pass in each paper, the participant has to score 70% and to
qualify for Distinction, you have to score 85% or more in each
paper. Examinations are held in March and September each year.
Course has to be successfully completed within two years from
date of registration
There are maximum two attempts allowed in each paper
Each course is of a duration of 3/4 months

A Guide to the 4 level IATA/UFTAA and 3 level IATA/FIATA programme


IHCTM has been the pioneers of Travel and Tourism as well as the Air
Cargo and Courier Management courses in India. The first ever Travel
and Tourism workshop was organized by IHCTM in 1971 and the Air
Cargo courses at IHCTM were introduced in 1988. Thereafter, IHCTM
became the first institute to offer the IATA/UFTAA Advanced Course
in India and in the year 2000 when IATA revamped the curriculum and
had a global launch of the new 4 level IATA/UFTAA programmes, IHCTM
had the distinction in becoming the first authorized training centre
worldwide to offer all the 4 levels of the IATA/UFTAA programme.
One of the major contributions in the development of the IATA/UFTAA
programme has been from Subhash Motwani, Director-IHCTM and
currently holder of 23 IATA qualifications who was invited by IATA
in Geneva in 1998 for the Pilot Testing of the new IATA/UFTAA
programmes. Subhash is also Director-Compact Travels and is a Chief
Faculty for the Stepping into Management and Senior Management
programmes offered by IATA.

IATA/UFTAA FOUNDATION - LEVEL 1


This is the first of the four levels and by studying this module the
you will be able to :
Make appropriate travel arrangements and reservations
Calculate and quote appropriate fares
Complete international travel documents in accordance with IATA
rules and procedure
Answer customer queries, sell travel and tourism products and make
the appropriate booking for the customer
Acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to ensure that your
front-line contact with the customer is remarkable
Understand the role of information technology i.e Global
Distribution Systems and the Internet
Acquire knowledge of e-ticketing which was globally implemented
w.e.f 1st June 2008

The FOUNDATION COURSE comprises of 13 modules and on successful


completion of examination, you will be qualified with the IATA/UFTAA
International Travel and Tourism Foundation Diploma and will be able
to use the words DTTF (Diploma in Travel and Tourism Foundation)
after your name. On successful completion, the participant will have
an understanding of the travel and tourism industry, the
practicalities of the travel professional s role in the industry and
the importance of exceeding customers expectations and role of
technology in the travel industry besides being able to understand
the concept of e-ticketing.
Additionally, you will become familiar with related subjects such as
industry regulations, codes, world geography, air fares and
ticketing including e-ticketing, visa and health requirements, as
well as tour programmes.

enrolment is valid for two years. Students will have two
opportunities to sit for the exam within this period of two years.
On completing the FOUNDATION Course, students would be eligible to
pursue the IATA/UFTAA CONSULTANT Programme.

IATA/UFTAA CONSULTANT - LEVEL 2

This is the second of four levels and by studying this module you
will be able to :

Handle all major aspects of the travel agency business.


Give accurate advice to clients on major tourist destinations.
Produce customized and international inclusive tours.
Sell international business, incentive and conference travel
arrangements.
Apply advanced IATA fare construction principles and complete
appropriate tickets and other documents for all types of
international journeys including issue and re-issue of tickets.
Familiarize yourself with common national requirements, IATA s
Regulations and the role of the National Travel Agents Associations.

Understand the Billing and Settlement System thus having an
distinctive edge in travel agency operations

The CONSULTANT COURSE comprises of 9 modules and on successful


completion of examination, you will be qualified with the IATA/UFTAA
International Travel and Tourism Consultant Diploma and will be able
to use the letters DTTC(Diploma in Travel and Tourism Consulting)
after your name. On successful completion, you will be valued as a
competent and business-minded travel professional. It will help you
understand more complex operations as well as adopt a consultative
approach to selling travel and tourism.
Eligibility :
The candidate should have completed the IATA/UFTAA Foundation
Diploma or equivalent training from a reputed institute such as the
Diploma in Compact Travel and Tourism with E-ticketing and CRS from
IHCTM. The course is also recommended for existing staff of tour
operators, consolidators and airlines who have sufficient work
experience and are conversant with basic travel agency operational
skills.

On completing the CONSULTANT Course, students would be eligible to
pursue the IATA/UFTAA STEPPING INTO MANAGEMENT Programme.

STEPPING INTO MANAGEMENT - LEVEL 3

This is the third of four levels and by studying this module you
will be able to :

Learn the essential principles and strategies in supervising and


managing people.
Develop customised tours and gain a competitive advantage.
Learn how to plan, organise and administer meetings, incentives,
conferences & exhibitions.
Be able to establish procedures and control costs of your business.
Understand the latest marketing trends and opportunities and apply

information technology and internet strategies

The MANAGEMENT COURSE comprises of 7 modules and on successful


completion of examination, you will be qualified with the IATA/UFTAA
International Travel and Tourism Management Diploma and will be able
to use the letters Dip TT(Mgt) after your name. On successful
completion, the participant is prepared to handle higher level
responsibilities such as accounting, supervising staff , negotiation
and product development.
Eligibility :
The candidate should have completed the Consultant Diploma also have
some GDS/CRS experience and handled work up to supervisory level.
Alternatively, those who have completed the Diploma in Compact
Travel and Tourism from IHCTM along with VA-1 and VA-2 as well as
having GDS and work experience are eligible for the programme.

The examination will be held in March and September every year and
enrolment is valid for two years. Students will have two

On completing the MANAGEMENT Course, students would be eligible to
pursue the IATA/UFTAA SENIOR MANAGEMENT Course.

Level 4: IATA/UFTAA SENIOR MANAGEMENT

This is the last of four levels and by studying this module you will
be able to :

Prepare yourself for the challenges of an upper-management role and


acquire a competitive advantage for your business.Motivate your
staff at all levelsEnhance your revenueDevelop a strategic marketing
oriented culture in your travel businessUnderstand how laws and
regulations have an impact on the travel agency businessDetermine

The SENIOR MANAGEMENT COURSE comprises of 5 modules and on
successful completion of examination, you will be qualified with the
IATA/UFTAA International Travel and Tourism Senior Management
Diploma and will be able to use the letters DTTSM (Diploma in
Travel and Tourism Senior Management) after your name. On successful
completion, you will be prepared to accept the challenges of the
managerial role and acquire a competitive advantage in handling the
travel agency business.
Eligibility :
You should have completed the Management Diploma and have atleast 1
year experience in a management position. Alternatively, you should
have successfully completed the Best of 5 Management Programme or
the Tourism and Business Management Programme from IHCTM and have
atleast 12 months of work experience.

The examination will be held in March and September every year and
enrolment is valid for two years. Students will have two
opportunities to sit for the exam within this period of two years.

HIGHLIGHTS OF the IATA/UFTAA Programme:


Each level of the programme comprises of 2 papers and to pass you
need to score a minimum of 70% in each paper. To qualify for
distinction diploma, you need 85% in each paper in your first
attempt.
The examinations are held in March and September each year and the
deadline for March registration is 30th November whereas for the
September registration it is 31st May. You have to register with
IHCTM atleast 15 days prior to the deadline set by ITDI (IATA
Training and Development Institute)
Each course is of a duration of 3 to 4 months. A customized
programme can be designed for the industry to complete the course
on a fast track basis (minimum of 10 participants)
You are entitled to maximum of 2 attempts per paper and the course
has to be completed in a span of two years.

Under the leadership of the International Air Transport Association (IATA)
and the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Association
(FIATA), the IATA/FIATA International Cargo Agents Training Programme is a
step-by-step professional training programme designed to help you advance
from entry-level to senior management in the cargo Industry. Introduced by
IATA and FIATA over 30 years ago to enhance the professionalism and
ability of cargo agents, it is delivered and updated on a regular basis by
a team of cargo experts and training specialists.
Prerequisites
It is recommended that students have completed a secondary school
education or equivalent. A good understanding of written English, world
geography and basic mathematics is essential.

IATA/FIATA CARGO INTRODUCTORY


The IATA/FIATA Introductory Course is one of the requirements for
accreditation as an IATA Cargo Agent. The Introductory Course takes into
account a number of changes in the air cargo industry and the evolution of
the industry towards the adoption of the Montreal Protocol.

IATA/FIATA AIR CARGO RATING
For those wanting to specialize in container loading and consolidation,
the AIR CARGO RATING Course is extremely useful. Persons holding the
IATA/FIATA International Air Cargo Rating Diploma are considered qualified
under the terms of the IATA Resolutions applicable to IATA 's
accreditation of Cargo Agents.
At the end of the course you will be able to:
Correctly quote the published rates and charges for air cargo shipments
Calculate appropriate rates and charges for mixed consignments and Unit
Load Devices (ULDs)

IATA/FIATA DANGEROUS GOODS
One of the pre-requisites to get a Cargo Agency accredited with IATA is to
have two employees working in the company who have completed the
IATA/FIATA Dangerous Goods Course. Further, the Dangerous Goods Diploma
has to be validated every two years to update oneself with the latest
formalities for identifying, classifying and complying with formalities of
packing, marking, labelling and documentation of hazardous substances.
The Dangerous Goods Examination comprises of one paper - Acceptance and
Use of Dangerous Goods Regulations and the candidate has to refer to the
latest edition of the Dangerous Goods Regulations and complete his
examination paper.
At the end of the course, you will be able to:
Apply the IATA Cargo Dangerous Goods Regulations correctly
Understand the legal aspects and the responsibility of the shippers,
agents and airlines involved in the transport of dangerous goods
Identify and classify individual dangerous goods items
Verify that the goods are properly packed, marked and labeled
Fill in and check the Shippers Declaration for Dangerous Goods (DGD)
Complete Air waybills in accordance with the applicable IATA rules and
procedures
Deliver dangerous goods shipments to the airlines ready for carriage

HIGHLIGHTS OF the IATA/FIATA Programme
The IATA/FIATA Introductory and Air Cargo Rating courses comprise of 2
papers each and to pass the examination you have to score a minimum of 70%
in each paper. A score of 90% in each paper in the first attempt entitles
you to receiving a diploma with Distinction. Maximum two attempts are
allowed in each paper and the examination has to be given within the
course validity period of 18 months. The exams are held in April and
October each year.
The IATA/FIATA Dangerous Goods examination is valid for 12 months and the
examinations are held thrice a year April, June and October. The passing
percentage is 80 and on scoring 90% in the first attempt the candidate
would be awarded a diploma with Distinction. Only two attempts are
permitted within the validity period of the course. The IATA/FIATA
Dangerous Goods course examination comprises of one paper only.
The student has to register for a Dangerous Goods Recurrent or Refresher
programme every 2 years. Enquire with IHCTM for details.
The course registration deadline for April session is 31st December, for
June session is 31st March and for October session is 30th June. You have
to register with IHCTM atleast 15 days prior to the deadline set by ITDI
(IATA Training and Development Institute)
Each course is of a duration of 3 to 4 months. A customized programme can
be designed for the industry to complete the course on a fast track basis
(minimum of 10 participants)

unscrupulous institutes who claim to offer IATA approved or IATA based
