ASSESSMENT
How will you know whether your students have made progress toward the objective? How and
when will you assess mastery?
 I will make observations during guided discussion and student self-reflection.
 The reflective journaling asks students to reflect on the reasons they volunteered for
this class and how they will remain open to continuous learning after this class.

KEY POINTS
Key points are student-facing statements that include important content students’ needs to
know to be successful in the lesson. What three to five key points will you emphasize?
Goal setting is practiced. Goals should be specific.
To set a goal, you need to know what it is you want to accomplish, how you can
measure what you’ve accomplished, and how long it will take to reach your goal.

OPENING/HOOK (5 min.) MATERIALS

 To set a goal, you need to know what it is you want to accomplish,
how you can measure what you’ve accomplished, and how long it
will take to reach your goal.

Ask the group to think about ways they have learned. What people have they Markers
learned from? Where have they learned? How have they learned? Lesson 3
Have students write their answers on the board. The list might include Worksheet 1:
schools, friends, family, jobs, doing things, books, and movies. Use the Learning
responses to introduce discussion of learning styles. Styles
Hand out Lesson 3 Worksheet 1: Learning Styles. When students have
finished answering questions, ask for a show of hands to see what percentage
of the class falls into each of the three categories.

GUIDED PRACTICE (15 min.) MATERIALS


How will you ensure that all students have multiple opportunities to
practice?
How will you scaffold practice exercises from easy to hard?
Why will students be engaged/interested?
How will you monitor and correct student performance?
How will you clearly state and model behavioral expectations?
Ask students to think about things they’ve done that were rewarding and
challenging and have students share some of their answers. Then ask them
what new things they would like to learn to do. Spend some time on this
question so that each student has had a chance to think about his/her answer
and share it with the group.

INDEPENDENT PRACTICE (20 min.) MATERIALS

Setting learning goals is one way to achieve a more fulfilling life. To set a Goal Setting
goal, you need to know what it is you want to accomplish, how you can
measure what you’ve accomplished, and how long it will take to reach your
goal. Ask students to fill out the goal setting worksheet for something new
that they would like to learn.

CLOSING (9 min.) MATERIALS

How will you provide all students with opportunities to demonstrate mastery
