The current aims and priorities of SSNC North/South cooperation are outlined in
the document “Application for the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation´s
North/South Program 2009-2011” (see Annex 1). The document also contains
information about the criteria used by SSNC to select programs and partners for
cooperation.
SSNC considers the North/South program first of all as an opportunity for
exchange of experiences, ideas and joint learning between organisations with a
shared set of values. SSNC does not regard the North/South program only as a
frame for funding but also as a programme for partnership based on solidarity,
mutual respect and common interests.
The overall objective of the Swedish support to civil society in developing
countries is ”A vibrant and pluralistic civil society in developing countries that
contributes effectively, using a rights-based approach, to reducing poverty in all
its dimensions.”
To be selected for a grant an application must contribute to the two following
specific objectives:
- Strengthened capacity among civil society actors in developing countries in
their roles as collective voices and organizers of services working on a rights-
based approach.
3. Applications to SSNC
SSNC does not have a standard format for applications for funding. However,
SSNC does have some requirements to fulfil when reporting to its own back
donors. Therefore, a proposal for support should contain at least the information
outlined below.
Social-economic-political analysis
Summary
A short summary of the proposal.
Target group
Description of the target group (e.g. in terms of size, sex, age, social belonging,
geographical area)
Poverty alleviation
Gender equality
Conflict prevention
Development Objective
Strategic long-term development objective is a high level objective providing the
justification for a development intervention. The development objective represents
the “big words” for what you hope to accomplish but usually have difficulties to
measure.
It is recommendable to include a detailed work plan for the upcoming year and
indicative work plan for the following years.
Example on how objectives, results, activities and indicators can be outlined in the
proposal:
Program/project Expected results Planned Indicators of results
objectives activities
Methods
The proposal should include a description of work methods of the organisation that
will be applied to implement the programme/project.
It is recommended that the budget linked to the proposal is elaborated in the local
currency. Include a detailed budget for each budget headline that shows cost item,
unit, quantity, unit cost and total. Specify human resources (salary) per person,
percentage of salary covered by the budget, as well as form of employment e.g.
full time or part time. The budget shall be summarized in the format of SSNC
(Annex 2a or 2b)
Please note that SSNC does not approve any unspecified costs, such as per diem or
allowances for participants in events, seminars, meetings etc.
