for cooperation with the Swedish

Society for Nature Conservation 2010-
2011.
2010-03-30/al

SSNC does not require organisations to use any standard format for application of
funding.

However, an application to SSNC for funding should at least contain the

information outlined in these Guidelines.

As long as these minimum requirements are fulfilled in the application/proposal,

the applying organisation is welcome to write the application according to the
organisations own format.

Support by SSNC shall contribute to local ownership and be based on the partner
organisation’s own priorities, planning and monitoring system.

2. Framework of SSNC Global Cooperation

The current aims and priorities of SSNC North/South cooperation are outlined in
the document “Application for the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation´s
North/South Program 2009-2011” (see Annex 1). The document also contains
information about the criteria used by SSNC to select programs and partners for
cooperation.
SSNC considers the North/South program first of all as an opportunity for
exchange of experiences, ideas and joint learning between organisations with a
shared set of values. SSNC does not regard the North/South program only as a
frame for funding but also as a programme for partnership based on solidarity,
mutual respect and common interests.
The overall objective of the Swedish support to civil society in developing
countries is ”A vibrant and pluralistic civil society in developing countries that
contributes effectively, using a rights-based approach, to reducing poverty in all
its dimensions.”
To be selected for a grant an application must contribute to the two following
specific objectives:
- Strengthened capacity among civil society actors in developing countries in
their roles as collective voices and organizers of services working on a rights-
based approach.

- Strengthened democratization and increased respect for the human rights of

people living in poverty who are discriminated against or marginalized.

3. Applications to SSNC

A short summary of the proposal.

Description of the target group (e.g. in terms of size, sex, age, social belonging,
geographical area)

A brief description of how your proposal relates to the mainstreaming issues in

Development Objective
Strategic long-term development objective is a high level objective providing the
justification for a development intervention. The development objective represents
the “big words” for what you hope to accomplish but usually have difficulties to
measure.

Programme or project objectives

The programme objectives are operational. They tell specific things that will be
accomplished within the project. It is the short-and medium-term effects to its
target group or target area in a specified time period. In other words: Programme
or project objectives create the setting for what is being proposed and are the
measurable results of the project. These objectives must be tangible, specific,
concrete, measurable, and achievable in a specified time period.
7

Expected results and indicators

Expected results describe how the target group will benefit from the activities of
the project.

Indicators are quantitative or qualitative factors or variables that provide a simple

and reliable means to measure achievements/progress or to reflect the changes
achieved by the programme/project.

Activities and workplan

Activities are actions taken or work performed through which inputs and resources
are mobilised to produce the expected results.

It is recommendable to include a detailed work plan for the upcoming year and
indicative work plan for the following years.

Example on how objectives, results, activities and indicators can be outlined in the
proposal:
Program/project Expected results Planned Indicators of results
objectives activities

Methods
The proposal should include a description of work methods of the organisation that
will be applied to implement the programme/project.

Capacity building, organisational development and sustainability

Include comments on the sustainability of the intervention and of your organisation
and/or participating organisations. In what way does the proposal consider/include
human resource development and capacity strengthening of the organisation?
Budget? Which are the means to increase sustainability for the target group?

Risk analysis & risk management

What are the anticipated risks for the implementation of the programme/project
and how may they be countered?
8

4. Budget and Finances

It is recommended that the budget linked to the proposal is elaborated in the local
currency. Include a detailed budget for each budget headline that shows cost item,
unit, quantity, unit cost and total. Specify human resources (salary) per person,
percentage of salary covered by the budget, as well as form of employment e.g.
full time or part time. The budget shall be summarized in the format of SSNC
(Annex 2a or 2b)

Please note that SSNC does not approve any unspecified costs, such as per diem or
allowances for participants in events, seminars, meetings etc.

If the application to SSNC is a so called core funding or basket funding where

several donors contribute to a common intervention the proposal should in addition
include information outlined in the following table:

Year Total budget Contribution per donor

SSNC XXX YYY
2010
2011
Total
Equivalent in SEK XXXXX

The following information should also be included in the proposal:

Former cooperation with SSNC (if applicable).

Last years total turn over and share of international funding

Name of international donors last year.
