The Faculty of Human Sciences, together with University Affairs Division of the Universidad
Autónoma de Colombia, offers the course LEARNING SPANISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE, aimed
to foreign people who want to learn Spanish.
THIS COURSE
1. Offers theoretical and pedagogical tools to make easy teaching of Spanish as a foreign
language.
2. Reviews specific, grammar, didactics and cross-cultural issues to perform classes with
foreign people.
3. Answers to the explosive growth that world has experienced in the use of Spanish as a
second language of global communication. Spanish is a part of the official languages of the
United Nations and the European Union and also the programs of almost all the most
prominent universities in the world; countries, such as the United States, Japan, Korea and
Brazil are more and more interested in Spanish as a language of communication.
4. Provides an exciting, dignified and enriching experience of daily activities that allow a
closer contact with our culture; visits to the recognized museums; contact with natural
parks; tours in the city; events and sports practices. These social and learning excursions
are ideal to practice Spanish and have a better knowledge of the culture that surrounds us.
5. Offers the possibility to enjoy a completely free activity plan that includes: two (2)
ecological walks, three (3) dance classes, one (1) cooking class, two (2) solidarity workdays,
two (2) sports afternoons, two (2) cultural visits.
Objectives
1. Provide basic tools that allow participants to learn Spanish as a foreign language or second
language through knowledge and practice of basic linguistic, pragmatic and didactic issues.
2. Provide didactic approaches typical of teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language (SFL) that
allow participants to practice in context the language studied.
3. Develop new learning opportunities in the classroom and outside for analysis and
application of educational activities in Spanish according to the requirements of the
educational context.
Methodology
This course is composed of four (4) modules: Grammar, Pedagogy and Didactics, Culture, and
Evaluation. These are not separated but related to each other. Each day, participants will have
theoretical and practical sessions (games, outings, visits, dance sessions, cooking), that is, the
methodology combines theoretical classes, extra class group activities, and presentations. The
curricular organization is oriented taking into account the guidelines established by the
Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Module 1: greetings, going shopping, check in hotel and airport (nouns, verbs and adjectives
of the module).
Module 2: eating, traveling, going downtown, home day, talking by phone (nouns, verbs and
adjectives of the module).
Module 3: visit the doctor; go to college, making friends, talking about dressing, accidents,
talking about public transport (nouns, verbs and adjectives of the module).
Module 4: family, waiting a baby, making friends, education; visiting museums, love
declaration, party night (nouns, verbs and adjectives of the module).
