Cauge is important because it tells you how big (or small) to
make your crochet craft. lt indicates the number of stitches
and rows per inch. Almost all the projects in this book have a

A Note About Crochet Hooks: Hooks are available in plastic, steel, wood, and many
other materials. They all feature the same parts*point, throat, shaft, thumb rest,
and handle-and are sized according to the shaft's thickness. Because the lettering
and numbers of hooks may vary, and the U.K. numbering system is the opposite of
the U'S. system, it is best to look for the size in millimeters, which is always indicated
on the hook.
All the projects in this book can be made using a U.s. size E hook, with finer
details calling for a U.5. size 1. Below are these hooks' metric conversions.
