THE BAKER BAKER ANALYZED® Sodium Phosphate, Dibasic Anhydrous undergoes more stringent testing than required by Industry Standards.
ADVANTAGE: Arsenic and Iron are critical specifications where BAKER ANALYZED Sodium Phosphate, Dibasic surpasses Industry Standards.
Additionally, Baker phosphates are known among scientists to be low in trace insoluble matter that can interfere in buffer solution
applications. High assay, low iron, and minimal insolubles lead to more consistent experimental performance.
Description: A hygroscopic white powder that will absorb moisture from the air (to form a dihydrate or heptahydrate). Very soluble in water.
Manufacturing Process: Sodium Phosphates are manufactured by reacting phosphoric acid with sodium carbonate. The resulting solution is filtered to
remove silica, iron and other phosphates. The solution proceeds to a crystallizer to precipitate out the sodium phosphate, dibasic.
The crystals are then centrifuged and the mother liquor is returned to the reactor. The crystals, currently in a 12-hydrate form, are
dried to produce the anhydrous salt.
Helpful Hints for Since the anhydrous form of dibasic sodium phosphate is very hygroscopic, it is desirable to dry it before weighing when precise
Accurate Experiments: quantitation is important. Drying at 120° C for 2–4 hours will be sufficient to return the salt to the anhydrous form. Cool the dried
powder in a desiccant before weighing.
Applications: • Polarography
• Chromatography
• Buffer Solutions
• Diagnostics
