A Narrative Report on the National Disaster Resilience Month

I. INTRODUCTION

Philippines is an archipelago located in the Pacific Ring of the Fire and the
Pacific Ocean. The Geographical position of Philippines makes it a disaster prone
area – experiencing earthquakes and more than twenty typhoons each year. The
general condition of our country in terms of disaster implies that readiness should be
taught to people to avoid further casualties.

As stated in the Republic Act 10121 or the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction
and Management Act Of 2010, all government and non-government agencies are
obligated to create methods and programs that would prepare the citizens in facing
disasters.

One great emphasis of this Act is the strengthening of disaster preparedness

measures in all schools that would imbibe the spirit of awareness and readiness
among students and teachers. With this in mind, the DepEd issued a Coordination
and Information Management Protocols for the streamlined distribution of protocols,
roles and responsibilities among schools, schools division office and DRRM
coordinators. The said issuance led to the mandate of the quarterly conduct of
earthquake and fire drills in all schools in the Philippines.

As per National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council

(NDRRMC) Memorandum No. 31, s,2018, all DEpEd offices and schools shall
participate in the 3rdQuarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill on June 21,
2018.

Knowing that Tumauini is not exempted in times of disasters, the Tumauini

National High School with the leadership of the principal, Fabio M. Macalling Jr.
PhD with the different coordinators involved in the school disaster resilience month,
joined Symposium on FIRE PREVENTION and FIRST AID to ensure the
preparedness of the different committees when fire or disaster will happens.

Last July 24,2018 Sir Guillermo Paet, the DRRM Coordinator conducted a

parade around tumauini and a symposium on Fire Prevention and First Aid held at
EIM building with three hundred participants. The symposium covers Fire
protection with our speaker SF04 Samson P. Brioso BFP OIC,Municipal Fire
Marshal, First Aid with Maam Monette C. Labugen, Teacher-II of Senior High
School Dept. and sir Reymar Tandayu,Teacher-I of Junior High, and on earthquake
Drill with Maam Mila B. Angobung, teacher-III.

As part of the Disaster Resilience Month, various activities were portrayed to

show the possible impacts of a strong fire and earthquake.
