Simulation on power circuit of evaluation board STEVAL-IS013V1

STEVAL-IS013V1 is a smart junction box for photovoltaic panels which is produced by ST

Microelectronics. It is a MPPT evaluation board with high efficiency isolated DC-DC boost
converter operating in the input voltage range from 10 V to 55 V. It is able to step up the
panel voltage to the input of inverter which ranging from 350 V to 430 V. The digital control
section of this evaluation board is managed by STM32 microcontroller based on ARM
Cortex M3. In order for the evaluation board to produced MPPT output of the photovoltaic
panel, the input voltage is recommended to be ranged between 24 V to 45 V.

The power circuit of STEVAL-IS013V1 evaluation board is an isolated DC-DC boost

converter driven by full bridge power MOSFETs. The input voltage is stepped up by a high
frequency switching transformer. Due to lack of information on the turn ratio of the winding
of the transformer, the winding ratio of the transformer is assumed to be 1:6, based on the
result from trial and error method which produced a result close to the input and output of the
evaluation board. The transformer used in the simulation study is an ideal transformer, which
in real case, there is no ideal transformer. Hence, the output result of the simulation will be
slightly higher than the exact output of the evaluation board.

In this simulation study, the power circuit for the DC-DC converter is simulated with
different switching duty cycle by using PSIM software. The relationship of input voltage,
duty cycle and output voltage is studied. The switching frequency of PWM in this simulation
is at 35 KHz. Figure 1 shows the circuit diagram while Table 1 shows the result of the
simulation.
