Situation: You are appointed as a Project Manager for a software development company. The project
charter has already been developed by the project Sponsor and the authority has been given to you.
You have to develop the project management plan. The predefined project scope is to develop a mobile
app. You are in the process of creating the WBS and the lifecycle that involves phases such as
Requirements, Design, Development, Testing, and Deployment. The work packages are:

 Requirement documentation under Requirements phase,


 High Level Document (HLD) and Low Level Document (LLD) under Design phase,
 Two modules: module1 and module 2 under Development phase,
 Test strategy document and Test plan document under Testing phase, and
 Installer under Deployment phase.

The activities under each of these work packages are given in this table.

A. Create the Work Breakdown Structure for the above situation.—15 Minutes

The activities in each of these phases will be carried out in a sequence. Requirement is the starting
phase. Once this phase is completed, the design and documentation phase should start. Next is the
development phase. After this phase, first the activities in the HLD phase and then the LLD phase should
be worked on. Module 1 and Module2 under the development phase will happen in parallel. Testing
phase follows the Development phase. Test Execution has to start after the Test Plan document phase.
The Deployment phase begins after the completion of the Testing phase and Documentation phase.

The durations of each of these activities are two days.


B. Estimate the duration of the project. Calculate the critical path and also find the total float for all
the phases.—20 minutes
C. You monitor and control the project. At the end of the 20th day, only the Requirements and
Design phases are completed. Each activity cost $100. The actual cost spent is $1300. Find the
SV, CV, SPI, CPI, EAC based on the current CPI to continue, ETC and VAC. –30 minutes
D. What is the observation from Earned Value Management (EVM) and what probable actions will
you take?—10 minutes
Total duration is 75 Minutes
