1. General
A. This section gives the procedure to remove, install, deactivate and reactivate the two NAPRSOVs.

B. The NAPRSOVs are installed in the LH and RH bleed ducting on the outboard side of the
engines.

C. The procedures in this section are given in the sequence below.

2. Nacelle Pressure-Regulating Shutoff-Valves - Removal


A. General

(1) This task gives the procedure to remove the nacelle pressure-regulating shutoff-valves.

(2) The nacelle pressure-regulating shutoff-valves are installed in the LH and RH bleed ducting,
on the outboard side of the engines.

(3) This maintenance technician is necessary to do this task:

MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES. THIS IS TO PREVENT INJURY TO PERSONS AND/
OR DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.

WARNING: DO NOT TOUCH THE DUCTS OR COMPONENTS OF THE AIR BLEED SYSTEM
IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE SYSTEM STOPS ITS OPERATION. THE HIGH AIR
TEMPERATURE CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT AN ACCIDENTAL OPERATION OF THE FLIGHT CONTROL


SURFACES, LANDING GEAR SYSTEM, AND ANTI-ICING SYSTEM DOES NOT
OCCUR. AN ACCIDENTAL OPERATION OF ONE OF THEM CAN CAUSE INJURY TO
PERSONS.
SUBTASK 940-001-A
(1) Do the procedure to make the aircraft safe for maintenance (AMM TASK
20-00-00-910-801-A/200).

(2) Do the procedure to make the aircraft safe for maintenance of the powerplant (AMM
TASK 71-00-00-910-801-A/200).
SUBTASK 860-001-A
(3) Connect the external AC power supply to the aircraft (AMM TASK 24-42-02-860-801-
A/200).

(4) On the overhead panel, on the AIR COND/PNEUMATIC control panel, set these
switches to the unlatched (off) position (a striped bar comes into view):

• BLEED2

• BLEED APU

• XBLEED

(5) Put a DO NOT OPERATE tag on the AIR COND/PNEUMATIC control panel.

(6) Make sure that the engines (AMM TASK 71-00-01-910-806-A/200) and the APU (AMM
TASK 49-10-00-910-802-A/200) are not in operation.

(7) Make sure that the SLAT/FLAP lever is in the zero-degree position and put a DO NOT
OPERATE tag on it.
SUBTASK 010-008-A
(8) Get access to the middle avionics compartment as follows:
(a) Open access door 199AL.

(b) Open and remove access door 147AL (AMM TASK 52-46-00-000-801-A/400).

SUBTASK 862-014-A
(9) For the LH engine, open this circuit breaker and put a circuit breaker ring and tag
(inoperative - do not operate) on it:
• E1 REVERSER-LICC (DC BUS 1)

(10) For the RH engine, open this circuit breaker and put a circuit breaker ring and tag
(inoperative - do not operate) on it:
• E2 REVERSER-RICC (DC BUS 2)

WARNING: FOLLOW THE CORRECT SEQUENCE WHEN YOU DO THE SPECIFIED TASKS
TO OPEN THE THRUST REVERSERS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS
INSTRUCTION, INJURIES TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN
OCCUR.

CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE LEADING EDGE SLATS ARE RETRACTED AND NOT IN
OPERATION BEFORE YOU OPEN THE THRUST REVERSER. WHEN THE
THRUST REVERSER IS OPEN, THE EXTENDED LEADING EDGE SLATS CAN HIT
IT. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DAMAGE TO THE SLAT LEADING
EDGE AND THRUST REVERSER CAN OCCUR.

(11) To get access to the LH nacelle pressure-regulating shutoff-valve, do as follows:


(a) Open access door 413AL (AMM TASK 71-11-00-910-801-A/200).

(b) Use GSE 060 to open access door 415AL (AMM TASK 78-30-01-910-801-A/
200).

(12) To get access to the RH nacelle pressure-regulating shutoff-valve, do as follows:


(a) Open access door 423AL (AMM TASK 71-11-00-910-801-A/200).

(b) Use GSE 060 to open access door 425AL (AMM TASK 78-30-01-910-801-A/
200).

H. Nacelle Pressure-Regulating Shutoff-Valves - Removal


SUBTASK 020-005-A (Figure 401)
WARNING: DO NOT TOUCH THE DUCTS OR COMPONENTS OF THE AIR BLEED SYSTEM
IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE SYSTEM STOPS ITS OPERATION. THE HIGH AIR
TEMPERATURE CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.

WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON ENGINE PARTS IMMEDIATELY AFTER


THE ENGINE STOPS. ENGINE PARTS CAN BE HOT. DO NOT TOUCH HOT
ENGINE PARTS WITHOUT GLOVES BECAUSE THESE PARTS CAN CAUSE
INJURY.

CAUTION: PUT CAPS ON ALL LINES AND FITTINGS AND MAKE SURE THAT THE AREA IS
CLEAN AND FREE OF ALL UNWANTED FLUID. DIRT CAN CAUSE SYSTEM
CONTAMINATION, LEAKAGE, AND DAMAGE TO COMPONENTS.

(1) Remove the NAPRSOV (8) as follows:


(a) Loosen the nuts of the couplings (7).

(b) Remove the couplings (7).

(c) Disconnect the pressure-control servo line (11) from the adapter (10).

(d) Loosen the nuts of the coupling (3) and (4).

(e) Remove the rod (17) as follows:


• Remove the nut (12), washer (13), bolt (14), and bushing (18).

(f) Loosen the bolt (15) of the rod (16).

(g) Loosen the nuts of the rods (5).

(h) Disconnect the engine bleed lines (1) and (2) from the NAPRSOV (8).

(i) Remove the NAPRSOV (8).

(j) Remove and discard the seals (6).

(2) Install a protective cap/plug on all openings of the engine bleed lines (1) and (2), and
pressure-control servo line (11).
SUBTASK 020-007-A
(3) If it is necessary to remove only the adapter (10), without the NAPRSOV (8), do as
follows:
(a) Disconnect the pressure-control servo line (11) from the adapter (10).

(b) Remove the adapter (10) from the NAPRSOV (8).

(c) Remove and discard the packing (9).

(d) Install a protective cap/plug on the NAPRSOV (8), and pressure-control servo line
(11).

3. Nacelle Pressure-Regulating Shutoff-Valves - Installation


A. General

(1) This task gives the procedure to install the nacelle pressure-regulating shutoff-valves.

(2) The nacelle pressure-regulating shutoff-valves are installed in the LH and RH bleed duct on
the outboard side of the engines.

(3) The lubricants approved for the servo lines are:


(a) ESNALUBE 382.
NOTE: ESNALUBE 382 is a type VI lubricant, but you do not need to heat cure it.

(b) PERMA-SLIK RMAC.

(4) This maintenance technician is necessary to do this task:

I. Nacelle Pressure-Regulating Shutoff-Valves - Installation


SUBTASK 420-005-A (Figure 401)
(1) Remove the protective cap/plug from all openings of the engine bleed lines (1) and (2),
and servo line (11).

(2) Install the NAPRSOV (8) as follows:


(a) Put the NAPRSOV (8) in the correct position for installation.
NOTE: The arrow must point to the correct airflow direction.

(b) If the cap assembly was removed, install the cap assembly on the NAPRSOV (8)
as follows. Refer to figure Figure 401.

1 Install the cap assembly on the NAPRSOV (8).

2 Torque the cap assembly nut to 20.60 to 23.73 N.m (200 to 210 lb.in) with a
torque wrench.

(c) Install new seals (6).

(d) Align the NAPRSOV (8) with the engine bleed lines (1) and (2).

(e) Connect the engine bleed lines (1) and (2) with the couplings (7) to the
NAPRSOV (8).

(f) Tighten the nuts of the couplings (7).

(g) Install the rod (17) as follows:


• Install the bushing (18), bolt (14), washer (13), and nut (12).

(h) Tighten the bolt (15) of the rod (16).

(i) Tighten the nuts of the rods (5).

(j) Apply a thin layer of one of the approved lubricants to the threads of the
pressure-control servo-line (11).

(k) Connect the pressure-control servo line (11) to the adapter (10).

(l) With a torque wrench, apply torque of 6.78 to 7.91 N.m (60 to 70 lb.in) to the nut
(12) and (15).

(m) With a torque wrench, apply torque of 6.78 to 7.91 N.m (60 to 70 lb.in) to the nuts
of the rod (5).

(n) With a torque wrench, apply torque of 12.00 to 14.00 N.m (106 to 124 lb.in) to the
nuts of the couplings (7). Refer to AMM TASK 20-10-12-910-801-A/200.

(o) With a torque wrench, apply torque of 12.00 to 14.00 N.m (106 to 124 lb.in) to the
nuts of the couplings (3) and (4). Refer to AMM TASK 20-10-12-910-801-A/200.

(p) With a torque wrench, apply torque of 16.2 to 18.9 N.m (143 to 167 lb.in) to the
pressure-control servo line (11).

SUBTASK 420-007-A
(3) If it is necessary to install only the adapter (10), do as follows:
(a) Remove the protective cap/plug from the NAPRSOV (8) and pressure-control
servo line (11).

(b) Apply a thin layer of one of the approved lubricants to the threads of the
pressure-control servo line (11).

(c) Install the new packing (9) and the adapter (10) on the NAPRSOV (8).

(d) With a torque wrench, apply a torque of 4.0 to 4.5 N.m (35 - 40 lb.in) to the
adapter (10).

(e) Connect the pressure-control servo line (11) to the adapter (10).

(f) With a torque wrench, apply a torque of 16.2 to 18.9 N.m (143 to 167 lb.in) to the
pressure-control servo line (11).

J. Job Close-Up

CAUTION: EXAMINE ALL THE WORK AREAS TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU REMOVED ALL
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT AFTER YOU COMPLETED THE WORK. IF YOU DO NOT
OBEY THIS PROCEDURE, DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT CAN OCCUR.

(1) On the LH engine, close these access doors, as applicable:


• 415AL (AMM TASK 78-30-01-910-802-A/200)

• 413AL (AMM TASK 71-11-00-910-802-A/200)

(2) On the RH engine, close these access doors, as applicable:


• 425AL (AMM TASK 78-30-01-910-802-A/200)

• 423AL (AMM TASK 71-11-00-910-802-A/200)

(3) For the LH engine, remove the circuit breaker ring and tag (inoperative - do not
operate) from this circuit breaker and close it:
• E1 REVERSER-LICC (DC BUS 1)

(4) For the RH engine, remove the circuit breaker ring and tag (inoperative - do not
operate) from this circuit breaker and close it:
• E2 REVERSER-RICC (DC BUS 2)

(5) Close the access to the middle avionics compartment as follows:

(a) Install and close access door 147AL (AMM TASK 52-46-00-400-801-A/400).

(b) Close access door 199AL.

(6) Remove the DO NOT OPERATE tag from the AIR COND/PNEUMATIC control panel.

(7) Remove the DO NOT OPERATE tag from the slat/flap lever.
SUBTASK 790-002-A
(8) Do the leak test of the nacelle pressure-regulating shutoff-valves (AMM TASK
36-11-03-790-801-A/500).
NOTE: As an alternative procedure, you can do the leak test of the nacelle pressure-
regulating shutoff-valves as given in (AMM TASK 36-11-03-790-802-A/500). If
you do the leak test with the APU as a bleed source, you must not do it on the
two engines at the same time. You also must not do this leak test if the
opposite bleed system is already on the MEL, since the newly installed valve is
not functionally tested on the aircraft.

(9) Disconnect the external AC power supply from the aircraft (AMM TASK
24-42-02-860-802-A/200).

4. Nacelle Pressure-Regulating Shutoff-Valve - Deactivation


A. General

(1) This task refers to item 36-11-03 - engine bleed valve (NAPRSOV) - of the DDPM and gives
the procedure to deactivate the nacelle pressure-regulating shutoff-valve

(2) The nacelle pressure-regulating shutoff-valves are installed in the LH and RH bleed ducts on
the outboard side of the engines, in the zones 416 and 426.

(3) This maintenance technician is necessary to do this task:

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE AIRCRAFT IS IN A SAFE CONDITION BEFORE YOU DO THE
MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES. THIS IS TO PREVENT INJURY TO PERSONS AND/
OR DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT AN ACCIDENTAL OPERATION OF THE FLIGHT CONTROL


SURFACES, LANDING GEAR SYSTEM, AND ANTI-ICING SYSTEM DOES NOT
OCCUR. AN ACCIDENTAL OPERATION OF ONE OF THEM CAN CAUSE INJURY TO
PERSONS.
SUBTASK 860-008-A
(1) Do the procedure to make the aircraft safe for maintenance (AMM TASK
20-00-00-910-801-A/200).

(2) Do the procedure to make the aircraft safe for maintenance of the powerplant (AMM
TASK 71-00-00-910-801-A/200).

(3) Make sure that the engines (AMM TASK 71-00-01-910-806-A/200) and the APU (AMM
TASK 49-10-00-910-802-A/200) are not in operation.

(4) Make sure that the SLAT/FLAP lever is in the zero-degree position and put a DO NOT
OPERATE tag on it.
SUBTASK 861-003-A
(5) Connect the external AC power supply to the aircraft (AMM TASK 24-42-02-860-801-
A/200).

WARNING: FOLLOW THE CORRECT SEQUENCE WHEN YOU DO THE SPECIFIED


TASKS TO OPEN THE THRUST REVERSERS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS
INSTRUCTION, INJURIES TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT
CAN OCCUR.
(6) Get access to the applicable NAPRSOV valve:
(a) To get access to the LH NAPRSOV valve, do as follows:

1 Open the access door 413AL (AMM TASK 71-11-00-910-801-A/200).

2 Use a GSE 060 to open the access door 415AL (AMM TASK
78-30-01-910-801-A/200).

(b) To get access to the RH NAPRSOV valve, do as follows:

1 Open the access door 423AL (AMM TASK 71-11-00-910-801-A/200).

2 Use a GSE 060 to open the access door 425AL (AMM TASK
78-30-01-910-801-A/200).

F. Nacelle Pressure-Regulating Shutoff-Valve - Deactivation


SUBTASK 040-002-A
(1) To lock the NAPRSOV valve closed, do as follows:
(a) On the overhead panel, on the AIR COND/PNEUMATIC control panel, set these
pusbuttons to the OFF position (a striped bar comes into view):
• BLEED1

• BLEED2

• BLEED APU

• XBLEED

WARNING: DO NOT TOUCH THE BLEED-AIR SYSTEM DUCTS OR


COMPONENTS IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE ENGINE OR APU STOPS.
THE HIGH TEMPERATURE OF THE BLEED-AIR CAN CAUSE
INJURIES TO PERSONS.
(b) Remove the locking screw (1) from its normal operation position.

(c) Make sure that the valve is in the closed position. If not, manually turn the valve
to the closed position.
NOTE: The locking crank (2) has a hexagonal head that you can put a wrench
on it and turn the valve.

(d) Install the locking screw (1) on the locked position (REF.) threaded hole.

(e) Tighten the locking screw (1) until it touches the actuator housing boss.
NOTE: An increase in the applied torque is an indication of this point.

(2) Put a BLEED 1 INOP – DO NOT USE and/or a BLEED 2 INOP – DO NOT USE tag on
the BLEED 1 and/or BLEED 2 pushbutton of the AIR COND/PNEUMATIC control
panel, as applicable.

(3) Make an entry in the aircraft technical logbook to show that you did the deactivation
procedure for the NAPRSOV valve.
G. Job Close-Up

CAUTION: EXAMINE ALL THE WORK AREAS TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU REMOVED
ALL TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT AFTER YOU COMPLETED THE WORK. IF
YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS PROCEDURE, DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT CAN
OCCUR.
(1) To close the applicable access door to the NAPRSOV valve, do as follows:
(a) On the LH engine, close these access doors, as applicable:

5. Nacelle Pressure-Regulating Shutoff-Valve - Reactivation


A. General

(1) This task gives the procedure to reactivate the engine bleed valve (NAPRSOV), if the
deactivation procedure (AMM TASK 36-11-03-040-801-A/400) obeyed the special dispatch
condition of theDDPM reference item 36-11-03.

(2) The nacelle pressure-regulating shutoff-valves are installed in the LH and RH bleed ducts on
the outboard side of the engines, at zones 416 and 426.

(3) This maintenance technician is necessary to do this task:

TASK 71-00-00-910-801-A/200).

(3) Make sure that the engines (AMM TASK 71-00-01-910-806-A/200) and the APU (AMM
TASK 49-10-00-910-802-A/200) are not in operation.

(4) Make sure that the slat/flap lever is at the zero-degree position and put a DO NOT
OPERATE tag on it.
SUBTASK 861-005-A
(5) Connect the external AC power supply to the aircraft (AMM TASK 24-42-02-860-801-
A/200).

1 Open the access door 423AL (AMM TASK 71-11-00-910-801-A/200).

SUBTASK 440-002-A
(1) To unlock the NAPRSOV valve from the closed position, do as follows:
(a) Remove the locking screw (1) from the locked position (REF.) threaded hole.

(b) Install and tighten the locking screw (1) in the normal position (REF.) threaded
hole.

(2) Do the troubleshooting and the applicable corrective maintenance procedure for the
NAPRSOV valve.

(3) Remove the BLEED 1 INOP – DO NOT USE and/or the BLEED 2 INOP – DO NOT
USE tag from the BLEED 1 and/or BLEED 2 pushbutton of the AIR COND/
PNEUMATIC control panel, as applicable.

(4) Make an entry in the aircraft technical logbook to show that you did the reactivation
procedure for the NAPRSOV valve.
G. Job Close-Up

CAUTION: EXAMINE ALL THE WORK AREAS TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU REMOVED ALL

• Use a GSE 060 to close the access door 415AL (AMM TASK 78-30-01-910-802-
A/200)

• 413AL (AMM TASK 71-11-00-910-802-A/200)

(2) On the RH engine, close these access doors, as applicable:


• Use a GSE 060 to close the access door 425AL (AMM TASK 78-30-01-910-802-
A/200)

• 423AL (AMM TASK 71-11-00-910-802-A/200)

SUBTASK 860-011-A
(3) Remove the DO NOT OPERATE tag from the SLAT/FLAP lever.
SUBTASK 861-006-A
(4) Disconnect the external AC power supply from the aircraft (AMM TASK
24-42-02-860-802-A/200).
