The
Problem
Introduction

A 1tourist destination is a place that the visitor want to relax or have some time quality for

their family or friends. Normally for its inherent or an exhibited herbal or cultural value, ancient

significance, herbal or constructed splendor, providing amusement and entertainment. The

commonly types of tourist attraction natural beauty such as beaches, tropical island resorts,

national parks, mountains, deserts and forests, are examples of traditional tourist attractions to

have some quality time with relatives or friends. Other example from cultural tourist attractions

are the historical places, monuments, ancient temples, zoos, aquaria, museums and art

galleries, botanical gardens, buildings and structures (such as forts, castles, libraries,

former prisons, skyscrapers, bridges), theme parks and carnivals, living history museums, public

art (sculptures, statues, murals), ethnic enclave communities, historic trains and cultural event.

Production line visits, mechanical legacy, innovative craftsmanship and specialties workshops are

the object of social specialties like modern the travel industry and 2inventive the travel industry.

Numerous vacation spots are additionally tourist spots. While some tourist attractions provide

visitors a memorable experience for a reasonable admission charge or even for free, others might

be of low quality and overrate their merchandise and enterprises, (for example, admission, food,

and souvenirs) so as to benefit too much from voyagers. Such places are ordinarily known as tourist

traps. From the travel industry supply point of view a goal is normally characterized by a geo-

political limit, and goal promoting is most generally financed by governments. From the traveler

point of view, a destination might be interpret differently. A tourist destination is a city, town, or

other zone that is reliant to a noteworthy degree on incomes from the travel industry, or "a nation,

state, district, city, or town which is advertised or showcases itself as a spot for vacationers to

visit", for example 3Fortune Islands is a tourist destination in Nasugbu, Batangas.

Fortune Island is located in Nasugbu, Batangas. A vast amount of treasure was recovered

in the wreck when it was discovered by French underwater archaeologist Franck Goddio in 1992.

These include valuable 4ceramics, stoneware jars, 5earthenware potteries, Japanese samurai

swords, important metals and stones, navigational compass, maritime astrolabe and silver coins,

among others. Majority of the ceramic wares recovered were intact and many pieces were still

restorable. The fortune brought by the discovery of San Diego Galleon paved the way for the

island’s present name. The Island featured a 27-hectare (67-acre) island lies about 14 kilometers

(8.7 mi) off the coast of Nasugbu in Batangas. to get there, there is a route in bucana a coastal

barangay in Nasugbu where the travel hour is an about 1- 1hr 30minutes using a boat so it may

take a while to arrive. Upon arriving in the island you will gonna feel the fresh air and the sound

of wave as closer closer you get from the island. (https://greedypeg.org/batangas/Fortune-Island-

Nasugbu.html)

Every tourist attraction/ destination has a law, policy ,R.A and memorandum that we need

to follow such as Republic act No. 1478, an act to create a board of travel and tourist industry,

defining its powers, duties and responsibilities, and for other purposes. Likewise Republic act

No.9593, an act declaring a national development, and strengthening he department of tourism and

its attached agencies to effectively efficiently implement that policy, and appropriating funds.

While we are discussing of what topic we will have in research paper, many suggest that

we study about like Lumang simbahan (old church), Caleruega, Kawa falls etc. But there is

something that caught our attention and that is the Fortune Island. We choice this place because

when we are in the shoreline of Nasugbu, we have seen the island from a far. We want to know

the status of Fortune Island as a tourist attraction and how island become the most visted tourist

destination in Batangas.

Related Studies

According to Dhanasekaran (2005) “protection, development and improvement of the

various constituents of the environment are among the basic conditions for the harmonious

development of tourism”. Similarly intelligent tourism management can contribute in large

measure to the protection and development of the physical environment and cultural heritage of

mankind as well as the improvement of the quality of human life. It is therefore advisable that 39

tourism development and sound environmental management should be 7integral concerns of

national development policies.

Singh (2008) made an in-depth study into different travel attractions and the different

motivators of travel. He argues that historical and cultural attractions play a crucial role in the

promotion of foreign tourism. He analyses tourism industry in India in detail. He 8elaborately

evaluates the governmental and institutional role in tourism promotion and the problems of

development of tourism in India. He explains how to generate awareness among the people and

highlights the importance of domestic tourism.

Raina (1999) strongly advocated ecotourism for sustainable tourism development. In his

article, he explains that ecotourism as a logical component of sustainable development requires a

multi-disciplinary approach, careful planning and strict guidelines and regulations that will

guarantee sustainable operation only through inter-sectoral involvement, this goal can be achieved.

According to Ratna Sree (2010) ecotourism can develop a destination economically,

9
infrastructurally and culturally, but if poorly developed it can create crime and other social

problems, which is detrimental. In order to achieve sustainable development through ecotourism,

effective partnership between local people, tourists, government and other sections of the industry

are essential, otherwise ecotourism a boon for the development of Nation may become a doom.
10
Claire Doole (2000) conducted a study about ecotourism in China. The number of eco

tourists is growing in China. They have realised that to attract foreigners they have to show their

cultural side, offering more traditional singing and dancing and ensuring that houses are built in

the traditional way. Women are now making an income selling their handicrafts to tourists on the

way to the reserve. Shaik

Lakshmi (2007) says that there is no second opinion that the protection of good

environment will have a positive impact on the development of tourism. Again tourism

development will have positive impact on the protection of environment. One thing should be

noted here, is that the growth of tourism, without proper control and supervision will endanger the

environment and then tourism industry itself will face a setback
