HISTORICAL BACKGORUND OF PRINT MEDIA IN

THE WORLD
Before we talk about print media, let’s briefly look at the
history of writing and why human began writing
The earliest form of writing can go back as far as 40000 years
ago when humans live in caves. They used to communicate
with others and they make such type of symbols that other
people can understand as we see in some of the ancient places
like MOHN-JO-DARO
While, additional discoveries were throughout the time in
different regions of the world.
In 15th century, the first printing press was invented by
JOHANNES GUTENBERG. This invention had played a vital role
in production of books or copying books and this invention
becomes very famous in all over the world in a very short
period of time. So, this was a short overview of history of print
media in the world
Now, let’s talk about print media. From the beginning of first
printing press till now, Print media is a basic tool to
communicate and the basic feature of print media is that we
can convey our message to a number of people. Print media
can be read at any time, space and can be kept as a record.
Print media have several types like newspaper, magazine,
books, banners & signboards etc. Hence, it plays a vital role in
the development of a society and state
Now let’s talk about

IN THE SUBCONTINENT INDO PAK

INTRODUCTION:-
The print media has its many types like books in the
subcontinent but the major or most effective type of print
media is newspaper, Magazine etc. the basic purpose of
newspaper is education, information, culture, entertainment &
advertisement.
There are two major types of print media in the subcontinent
as shown below
1) NEWSPAPER 2) MAGAZINE

NEWSPAPER:-
The first newspaper of the subcontinent is “HICKY GAZETTE”. It
was an English newspaper and was published in 1778. The
founder has the same name as per paper “HICKY GAZETTE”
Another newspaper is popular in the subcontinent called “jam e
jahanuma” and was published in 1822. This was the first Urdu
newspaper which promotes Urdu a lot in the subcontinent
INDO-PAK. The founder of this newspaper is “MAULANA
MOHAMMAD BAQIR”
Newspaper has its various types. The major ones are shown
below

METROPOLITAN

NATIONAL NEWSPAPER:-
National newspapers are published every day and cover a wide
range of news topics. They cover all news from the state and
out of the state like business, sports, crime etc.

METROPOLITAN:-
Metropolitan news is published with same frequency as
national newspaper but they are built only on news, articles,
advertisement from local areas, local government and local
organizations.
SUB URBAN & SMALL TOWNS DAILY:-
This is a daily newspaper covering news, articles of small towns
and linking villages.

ASSOCIATION TRADE & PROFESSIONAL


NEWSPAPER:-
It is an association of people and companies in particular
business and trade organizations to promote their common
interest.
Hence, newspaper played a vital role in delivering News,
entertainment & advertisement etc. newspaper is a basic and
initial form of Mass Communication.
The other type of print media is

MAGAZINE:-
Magazine is another medium of communication in the
subcontinent until now Magazine is an important tool of Mass
Communication. Magazine has a double bond format with
double paper quality cover much better than Newspaper. In the
subcontinent Magazine came into with the birth of journalism.
HICKY GAZETTE, JAM E JAHANUMA, DAG DARSHAN are the first
Urdu, English, Persian and Bengali languages papers they all are
weeklies. Magazine can be classified interviews of the regular
intervals of their public and appeal wise. The first category
includes weekly fourth nightly, monthly, bimonthly. While the
letter category include Mass Magazine and classified Magazine.
Magazine is a very major medium to communicate with
multiple people or a number of people. Hence it is very useful
to the people of the subcontinent.

COCLUSION
Hence, It is proven that the communication is always necessary
for every living creature and print media played a vital role in
the development of the subcontinent .
