Fishing for Forgiveness and Family
I found some funny sayings about fishermen this week:
Good Things Come to Those Who Bait

With no dad in my life, my first fishing trip occurred
through a deacon/neighbor named Pat Locker. He untan-
gled line, freed up hooks and endured endless chatter from
a seven year old. I drank my first cup of coffee (5 spoons
of sugar and it still tasted terrible). We were rained on,
cold and hungry, but it is one of my best childhood memo-
ries. I felt accepted and included.
I’ve since realized there are many who are fishing for for-
giveness. They are hooked on something in their past. Un-
willing to believe Christ will give them a fresh start. There
is more grace in Christ than sin in us.
Gigi Tchividjian tells a story. I’ve adapted it to fit here.
A priest in a small parish had committed what he felt was
a terrible sin when he was a young man. Although he had
asked God to forgive him, he still carried the guilt and
burden of his sin. He couldn’t believe God would forgive
him.
An elderly woman in his congregation spoke often of
visions and conversations with our Lord. He was skeptical
of her claims of hearing God’s voice. So he decided to test
her.
Over a cup of tea he asked, “Do you really have visions
from God?” Humbly she replied, “Yes.”
“Well then… the next time you speak with Him, ask him
what sin your priest committed as a young man?” The
woman gladly agreed.
Several weeks passed before he saw her again. He asked,
“Did you ask the Lord what sin I committed as a young
man?” The woman replied, “I did.”
“What did the Lord say?”
She looked into the face of her priest and gently replied,
“The Lord told me He could not remember.”
God not only forgives our sin He also forgets them. The
Bible says He casts them into the depths of the sea
(Malachi 7:19). Corrie Ten Boom used to say, “to throw
your sin in the middle of the sea and then put up a sign
saying ’NO FISHING.”
The deepest point in the ocean is the Mariana Trench in
the Pacific. It is over 36,000 feet deep. That’s almost 7
miles. Mount Everest is the highest point on earth. It is
29,000 feet high. The deepest point of the ocean goes
further into the heart of the earth than any mountain reach-
es into the sky. That should give you some idea of how far
God casts our sins from us when he forgives us.

TIMEOUT MESSAGE SERIES
Wednesday evenings, Cleve is leading students in THE
SEVEN, a message series from Revelation 2-3. "He who
has an ear let him hear what the Spirit says to the
churches..."
MARCH 31 HYDE PARK PICNIC
Sunday evening, March 31, our Youth On Mission group
will gather at Hyde Park for an evening of food and fel-
lowship with local families from 5:00-6:30 p.m.
SUMMER MISSION TRIP
June 23-29, 2019, the student ministry will be in St.
Louis, Missouri, partnering with Street Reach, an inner-
city gospel ministry. The cost is $300 per person. Infor-
mation and registration are available through the church
website.
SUPER SUMMER ALABAMA
July 8-12 is SSAL at Samford University. This is a disciple-
ship/ leadership development camp for students who
have completed grades 8-12. Registration is open
through the church website. When registering, please
carefully read the section concerning the steps for a
student to be qualified to attend SSAL.
HELPING HANDS
Each Spring our students offer services to church mem-
bers who need some work done. This ministry is a fund-
raiser to help with the cost of their summer mission trip.
To request “helping hands” call Karen in the church
office.
College & Career Ministry

Will be on the last Sunday night of each month. Meets at
Cloverdale Baptist at 8pm. Next meeting March 31.

Eastmont Missions Yard Sale
April 6th - Dropoffs begin March 31. Donate your gently
used items to benefit missions. Sorters, folders, and
loaders needed throughout the week.
Music & Worship Ministries

On April 14 and 15 the Music and Worship Ministries of
EBC will present The Montgomery Passion Play. Come
celebrate the love of Christ by remembering what He
has done for us on the cross! We will be reminded of
His death, burial and resurrection. We will see His love
portrayed through songs, live music and drama. Come
worship with us! The hope of Jesus is a life altering ex-
perience for all ages!
STUDENT CHOIR
We are excited to have our students taking part in the
Passion Play this year! When our choirs join together it
becomes a new and powerful expression of worship!
Student Choir Tour is June 16-20! To register see Lance

Students are raising money for Choir Tour with a
Memorial Day Boston Butt Sale! Cooked by Gail’s Down
the Street. Contact the Music and Worship Office to

FOREVER YOUNG CHOIR
Senior adults practice Tuesdays at 9:00 in the Choir

Secret Church
Following the Persecuted Church’s example, we’re
inviting LifeGroups to join in this time of intense Bible
study & prayer on April 26 at 6PM. Locations will vary.
The topic is Prayer, Fasting, & the Pursuit of God. More
