On Literature

Part 1

Cultural materialism framework. The critic will establish the practices of cultural
materialism in the text or literary piece. He/she will focus and analyze the cultural
practices of members of the society situated in the genre of literature. Sorts of political
economy will also be studied as part of the framework.
Acculturation framework. The critic will identify the texts of acculturation found
in the literary. He/she will be taking into notes and criticize the different ways of accepting
new cultures of individuals. He/she will also be observing the characters’ acquisition of
values and norms and even language of new society.
Framework of symbolism. The critic will reveal the objects of symbolism shown
in the literary piece. These objects will be studied to what will be their relationship to the
story or text. The critic will also study the connection of these objects to the characters
and to the society.
Diaspora framework. The critic will uncover the perspectives of diaspora in the
literary piece. The experiences in every travel of leading characters to be studied will be
analyzed. The critic will give the purpose of the travel and its purpose to the traveler. It
will also show the changes may occur to the traveler and the moral that may be acquired
during the travel. Acquired new meanings will also be articulated.
Agency framework. The critic will recognize the various discourses and the social
capabilities of leading characters and some and some chosen characters. Agency is the
individual itself. These are individuals to be studied in accordance to their part in the
society. The researcher will look on to the other characters with relationship to the story.
Masculinity framework. The critic will distinguish the cultural characteristics of
leading men. This will be focused on selected male characters both young boys and adult
men. The roles of men in the society, their behavior in their own chosen field, their
thoughts in every struggle, and their whole compositions as individuals will all be
discussed.

This would be a self – study. Read and research on additional information, explanation or concept
of the literary theories above which are good for any literature subjects under the program of study, MAEd-
LL.
Choose one literary genre: movie, novel, short story or the like. Choose four theories mentioned
above. Then, apply and criticize the genre you have chosen.
Computerize with 12 font size, bookman old style, justified, 1.5 line spacing. 1 inch margin from
top, bottom, left and right, short bond paper. Submit the requirement before the end of the semester.
