Rhetorical Analysis Essay: King, Alvarez, Yousafzai

Writing and speaking advance the progress toward social justice and
equality by ending segregation, injustice and advancing education. Dr.
Martin Luther King Jr’s purpose is to end segregation. Julia Alvarez’s
purpose is to speak up against injustice and Malala Yousafzai’s purpose for
girls and everyone to receive an education. All the texts use Ethos,Pathos
and Logos. Malala Yousafzai does the best job advancing his purpose.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s purpose is to end segregation. “At first I was
rather disappointed that fellow clergymen would see my nonviolent efforts
as those of the extremist.” (Page 7 ). This is an appeal to Pathos because it
is an appeal to logic and reason .This advances his purpose because he is
disappointed that his fellow clergymen would see his nonviolent efforts. The
second reason he offer is “I had hoped that the white moderate would see
this.” (Page 8). This is an appeal to Pathos because it is an appeal to the
emotions. This advances his purpose by he wanted the white people can
see what they are doing to them. Dr. Martin Luther king Jr rhetoric is
successful because he is saying how the white people has a lot of hate to
the black.

Julia Alvarez purpose is to speak up against injustice. Then, Alvarez goes

on to describe how the generalismo order to kill thousands of Haitians that
night in 1937. This is shown when she says, "El generalismo ordered the
overnight slaughter of some eighteen thousand Haitians." (page 2). This
evidence Advances her purpose by showing a lot of murder and it give an
example of injustice that existed in Dominican Republic. Finally Alvarez
goes on to describe how her mother and women did more work than men
in the march. This is shown when she says, "To my father and other men in
the country, the most humiliating of these tributes was the occasional
parade in which women were made to march and turn their heads and
acknowledge the great man as they passed the review stand." ( Page 3).

Malala Yousafzai purpose is for girls and everyone to receive an education.

Malala Yousafzai’s purpose is to Advocate for women's rights, girls
education, and free education all over the world for everyday. Malala. She
is saying thankyou to everyone that support her, In the text " Thankyou to
all of them. Thankyou to the children whose innocent words encourage me.
Thankyou to my elders whose prayers strengthened me. I would like to
thank my nurses, doctors and the staff of the hospitals in pakistan and the
UK and the UAE government who have helped me to get better and
recover my strength." (page 1). It use ethos and pathos because she is
showing apperies to everyone who support her. This advance the purpose
because she demonstrates that many people support her making her
reliable and, therefore, more quickly to convince her audience. She is
saying how she was shot and also her friend. In the text "Dear friend, on
October 9, 2012, the Taliban shot me on the left side of my forehead. They
shot my friend, too." (page 2). It use pathos because it make the listener
sad. This advance the purpose because she demonstrates how people
stand up for there right and how she wanted everyone to have an
education, and therefore she get shot. Finally she is saying how they
thought by shooting them that they will be silence. In the text "They thought
that the bullets would silence us." (page 2). It use pathos because she
show how the bullets would not silence her and her friend. This advance
the purpose because she demonstrates how she and her friend didn't stay
silence. Malala Yousafzai rhetoric is successful because she is saying how
shoe got shot and her friend, she is not scare and she is brave to confront
the taliban so girl and everyone can have a education.

Malala Yousafzai has a best example to advance her purpose because she
never gave up, she didn’t surrender, when she got shot on the left side of
her forehead, she still accomplish her mission for girls and everyone to
receive an education. The other can improve by saying if they were afraid
or not what they were doing. Did they wanted to do revenge to the people
that were mean to them. All of them are successful in demonstrating there
writing and speaking advanced there progress toward social justice and
equality because they show what was there problem, how they stand up for
themself and for the people.
