 FROM THE HEART OF THE SERVANT
THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY
All Christians are brothers and sisters in the Lord. They are part of
the family of God. They are Church. Just as the nuclear family
provides basic pastoral care and support for its members, so too
does the Church, the body of Christ on earth. All Christians are
called to holiness and discipleship. This is about a personal
relationship with Jesus, and also a vibrant family and home
environment, and further, a support environment together with
other Christians.
The Church was born on the day of Pentecost, when the Holy
Spirit came down on the disciples. Peter preached a sermon and
3,000 people came to faith in Jesus. Then they formed Christian
community. What happened? “They devoted themselves to the
teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the
breaking of the bread and to the prayers.” (Acts 2:42).
Here we see the various elements that made up community
life, which were crucial for growing in the Christian life. First,
there were ongoing instruction and formation. Second, they had
fellowship with each other. Third, they partook of the
sacraments, particularly the Eucharist. Fourth, they prayed and
worshipped together. They cared for each other, sharing their
possessions so that there was no one in need. They were a
witness of love to the people, and as such, were able to attract
many more to the faith. They evangelized, and “every day the
Lord added to their number those who were being saved.” (Acts
2:47).
Since then, the Church has grown very large, with one-third
of the population of the world being Christian (at the least,

One response to such a situation is the emergence of lay
associations and ecclesial movements. Such associations are
generally characterized by the following:
* A life of prayer and worship.
* Formation of members in holiness and Christian
discipleship.
* A communal life, with small group meetings and
larger group assemblies, as well as special events such
as conferences.
* A zeal for mission.
* Participation in the work of building the Church of
the Poor.
* Growing in nancial stewardship and support for the
common work.
* Being a servant to the Church.
There is much darkness and evil in the world today. There are
many lapsed Catholics. Many are being lost to the world, to sects
and even to cults. There needs to be renewal and revival. This is
why the Holy Spirit has called for a New Evangelization. Lay
associations are important for the renewal of lay Catholics, and
for the recovery of the missionary mandate of our Church.

LIFE OF A COMMUNITY
Many wonder why we in CFC FFL have made a
commitment to live as a Covenant Community.
God is a community of three persons living in Eternal Unity
and Communion of Love. We are created purely to share in
this eternal communion of Love. Community is God's
desire for us. Individualism is not part of God's design.
Everyone: Youth, Single or Married, needs community.
God’s plan is to make us Perfect which means perfect
lovers like Him.
Scripture is all about community. "And I will walk among
you and will be your God, and you shall be my people"
(Lev 26:12). We should learn to be dependent on God and
His people. Yet, the foolishness of sin and our pride tells us
that we have all that we need within ourselves. So, we
settle for relationships that never go beyond the casual.
Community is God's way of life, the way that leads to the
Truth and gives us Life (Jn 14:6).
It makes us branches of the true vine and nourishes us with
peace and joy of Christ when we are obedient to his
commands.
A Godly Spousal relationship is fundamental to any
community. Conversely a Godly Community helps
spouses live that perfect life of unity, communion and
experience the love lived by the Trinity.
1. Community builds up
Being in community gives you the chance to be around
people at different stages of their faith journey. Everyone
has something to teach and to learn. In community we
make lifelong friends, learn life-lessons from elders and
train youngsters. “Spur one another on toward love and

good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some
are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one
another.” (Heb 10:24–25)
2. Unity of mind and heart brings about the power of
the Spirit
Where two or three are gathered in His name God is
present (Matt 18:20).
Where God is present the power of the Holy Spirit gives
grace and strength to live out our commandment of Love
in Community “Bear with each other and forgive one
another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all
these virtues put on love, which binds them all
together in perfect unity” (Col 3:13–14).
3. Community makes us who we are meant to be: Like
Jesus
Community challenges us to be more like Jesus (Heb
10:24-25). Nothing makes us more like Jesus than the daily
grind of interactions with others. Community teaches us to
work through con icts. There's something powerful
about believers joining together, making each other
accountable and being a witness of one another's lives. We
need people checking in on us, asking the hard questions,
and challenging us to really live out our faith.
4. How to strengthen Community:
It starts with every member working on their personal
holiness. For couples, it means improving the spousal
relationship by having a regular one to one conversation.

 THE HARVEST
YOUTH CONFERENCE
COME ALIVE
The Regional Youth Conference 2018 was held from 9th to
11th of November 2018, at King's School Margao, Goa.
Delegations came from Mumbai, Pune, Mangalore and
Bangalore, along with various parts of Goa. There were
around 250 youth who attended the conference. The
theme of the conference was based on Matthew 11:28-30
The Music Ministry led by First Aid Band, set a very divine
ambience to kick-start the conference with praise songs.
The rst day started, with a Worship101 session, clearing
the question about, 'How do we worship'? It was followed
by the rst praise and worship.

The rst session soon followed, “The Invitation” The
session spoke about the invitation – who sends it and to
whom it is sent to. The session also highlighted the types of
burdens the youth carry nowadays, followed by the 3D's
Distraction, Discouragement, and Doubt; followed by the
promise of rest. The session focused on the verse Matthew
11: 28.
Every session followed with a group discussion, where
every participant was allotted a group leader. Post lunch,
the participants recited the Divine Mercy Rosary and then
another Worship101 session was conducted which cleared
the difference between a praise song and a worship song.
The next session which was 'Yoked to Freedom', spoke
about what is the rest that the Lord has promised us. This
session also highlighted, what it means to be yoked to

is inviting us to
be a part of His
work. A major
section of the
session was
about the lies
that don't allow
us to be yoked to Jesus and the truth was supported
by scripture verses. The session ended with a
statement that we are not alone because our God is
with us (Matthew 11:30).
Soon after there was mass, Fr.Austin Fernandes broke
the word to the participants. The evening ended with
dinner and some competitions.
The second day began with the Holy Eucharist, the
word was broken by Fr.Solon followed by breakfast
and then the 3rd session of Worship101 which spoke
about why men lead worship, post which there was a
time of worship.
The participants were divided into 2 groups, each
group had to go through a time of
re ection & adoration and prepare
themselves for confession.
There was a workshop conducted
which explained how participants
can become a true worshipper by Tara Saldanha
highlighting the points of the attitude towards
worship, laying down burdens, adoring and listening
to God & overcoming distraction.
Post lunch, the participants attended the On-Venue
Competitions which was a refreshing activity.
Soon followed the 3rd session, “Learning to Rest”.The
main focus was on 'What do we have to learn from
Jesus? It highlighted 6 attributes – Meekness,
Humility, Obedience, to be led by Holy Spirit, Trust and
Surrender. The session was a talk show between a few
sharers and the speaker where they spoke about their
life experience revolving around these attributes
(Matthew 11:29).
In the evening, the participants had a costume party
themed – Catholic Super Hero. The party had different
mini-games and spot prizes, followed by a wonderful
worship session led by the band Faith. Day 3 started off
with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist by Fr.Wilson
followed by Breakfast and worship. There were 2
workshops post this, 'Social Media'. and the other
workshop was about, LECTIO DIVINA – how to go about
reading the bible. All the participants were given a passage
on a worksheet, followed by 5 steps to how to read the
scripture – Lectio (read), Meditatio (Meditate), Oratio
(Prayer), Contemplatio (contemplate) and Actio (Act). In
the afternoon there was a pray over session for all the
participants followed by the last worship101, which
spoke about 'Prophecies'. Post which the praise fest
began. The conference ended with each of the
participants, having a new reason to live in Christ
again.

 TESTIMONIAL REPORT
INTERCESSION
Members share their testimonies on the power of intercession in their lives and how the
Lord has brought blessings to their families and community through constant prayer
and perseverance.
Intercession is worship. The peace
and rest that I have experienced at
the blessed sacrament in the
presence of a mighty God is
something words cannot describe.
To know an awesome God to worship
in spirit and truth is what Intercession
is to me. I have learnt that prayers and petitions are a very
small part of intercession. Being still and knowing God is of
essence. And it is this presence of a living God that has
brought peace and calm in my life.
Intercession unites the community to be of one heart and
one mind.
When you worship as one body God is present, and this
transforms the community.
Also praying together for a common cause unites people
and brings blessings into their lives.

In Oct 2017, it rained heavily in
Bangalore. Two lakes near our home
were full. One lake over owed
overnight and ooded our house.
The civic authorities drained the
water from the lake partially. We
prayed that the rains stop as we
would not be able to stay in the
house. It was a miracle that it
stopping raining and we were ooded for only 6 hours. I
was humbled that the Almighty Lord heard our prayer as in
the days of Prophet Elijah.

My journey of intercession
started out as a personal one
where I asked Mama Mary to
change my heart and make it
more like her Son. As months

passed, I felt an overwhelming transformation. This
brought about the need to intercede for others too. Like
a sandalwood tree makes its presence felt by only the
fragrance, my urge to serve others was by way of
interceding for them, thereby spreading the aroma of
Christ. I also use personal intercession as one of the tools
to keep away from the sin of pornography and
masturbation.
The power of intercession plays a central role in the
community.
Luke 5:18 speaks of the paralysed man who was brought
on a stretcher to be healed by Jesus. It was the faith and
prayers of the 'others' around and the stretcher bearers,
that played a role in his healing.
I too felt like the 'others' when I was asked to lead the
intercession ministry at the Young Couple's Conference
in 2018, where I witnessed a lot of obstacles being
combated by the power of intercession alone.

From the beginning, I never liked
others asking me to pray. As we were
preparing for our intake camp, we
spent a lot of time in front of the
Blessed Sacrament. From then on, I
began spending time in prayer before
t h e B l e s s e d S a c ra m e nt, o n a n
everyday basis. Initially I found it
difficult but as time passed by, I found peace reigning in
my life. But now, I do my daily prayers and spend time
with the Lord. It is the most important part of the day for
me, and missing it would make my day feel incomplete.
Regular visits to the blessed sacrament has helped me
surrender my anger, thus improving my relationship
with my mother. Intercession has not only improved my
relationship with the Lord, but also with my family and
friends. It has become a holy and important part of my
life.

 TESTIMONIAL REPORT
This beautiful gift of praying for others
was put in my heart by God as I was
praying at the Blessed Sacrament. As I
was praying for my father to be
delivered from alcoholism and come
closer to know God, God put it in my
heart to intercede for all those addicted
to alcohol and those souls who are far
away from accepting Jesus.
As I continued to fast and pray during the Lenten week( last
year), God gave me his word from Phil 4:6. After few days
my father gave me a call and told me he wants to give up
alcohol and said to pray for him. I continued surrendering
my father and every intention to God.
At the end of the Lenten week my father called and told me
as he tried to take alcohol again, he vomited it out and has
never touched alcohol again. Jesus delivered my father
completely from this and brought him closer to God, so
much so that today my father also asks me about our
community too. There is more peace and love in our family
now.

This verse has always helped to
b e l i e ve i n t h e p o we r o f t h e
intercession of Mother Mary. The
intercession prayer is a powerful
weapon for a family in all kinds of
situations.
A few years ago my brother was going through a health
issue for three months and was treated at three different
hospitals. After two attempts of failed surgery, the doctor
said we cannot do another surgery because if it fails he
might not survive. On the other hand if we didn't do the
operation he might not live. It was a traumatic time.
After two days of praying, my dad asked the doctor to go
ahead with the surgery.
When they were taking my brother for the surgery, some of
my brothers and I went behind the building and kept
praying until the end of the operation.
We felt the power of God in our lives when Dad called to tell
us that the surgery was successful and we got our brother
back.

The rosary is the most important
prayer that I use during my time of
Intercession. I also say the Divine
Mercy and Liberation rosary. I persist
to never give up in my time of praying
for others and I have seen it's fruit time
and again personally and in the lives
of the community.

Through Intercession, I have experienced
God's Love, his assuring presence and how
he is passionately mindful of his people.
Problems huge as mountains melt like
snow when we intercede. This I have
experienced time and again and it has
helped a lot personally.
Intercession is the backbone of the
community. Be it mission work, a small
program or praying for someone who is sick, the
community gets on to the battle ground to pray as one
body. Community has witnessed how God goes ahead of
us to make all crooked paths straight. Community has
certainly grown in faith through this ministry of
intercession.

When we were expecting our
second baby, I was diagonised with
a condition called polyhydramnios,
wherein there is excess amniotic
uid in the womb which can hinder
the growth of the baby.
It is in those moments when you
physically cannot do anything
about the situation, it is your faith that is tested. We offered
up our situation to God and prayed that He takes control,
But we weren't alone in our intercession. I believe an army
of intercessors started praying for us as we got numerous
messages asking how we were and assuring us of their
prayers. Within a month the uid in my womb had reduced
to the perfect amount and all my scans were normal. Praise
God!
Those few weeks were lled with tense moments but faith
in God and the intercession support gave us immense
hope that all would be well. And sure enough, it was!
