To determine the Mechanical Advantage, Velocity Ratio & Efficiency of V- Thread.

Theory:
V threads have some specific angle between 30–60 degrees. Square threads have an angle of 90°
between two threads. Square threads are more efficient than V-threads. Square threads are used
in power screws whereas V-threads are used to provide high frictional force.
Types of V- Thread:

British Standard Whitworth (B.S.W.) Thread:

It is a symmetrical V-thread in which the angle between flanks is 55°. These threads are
generally used on bolts, nuts and studs etc.
British Association (B.A.) Thread:
It is a symmetrical V-thread in which angle between flanks is 47.5°. These threads are used on
screws for precision work.
Sellers Thread:
This thread is also called as American national thread. It is also a V- thread in which angle
between flanks is 60°. These are used for general purpose as on bolts, nuts, studs and screws etc
Unified Thread:
Also called as International Organisation threads. India, United Kingdom, U.S.A. and Canada are
the members of the International Organisation for Standardization (I.S.O.) and are agreed to have
a common form of threads (Angle 60°).
Metric Thread:
These are the threads based on metric system and the Bureau of Indian Standard has
recommended to adopt the unified threads on metric system (Angle 60°).
Lead:

Lead is a distance covered in one complete revolution of the thread.

Pitch:

Pitch is the distance between two consecutive threads.

Crest:

The top surface of a thread is called crest.

Root:

The bottom surface of thread is a root.

Pitch Dia:

Pitch dia is the diameter where the teeth of both threads are touch each other.

Apparatus:

Square Thread Apparatus, Weights, Hangers, Steel Rule, String.
