SCHOOL HISTORY
Jasaan National High School was formerly called Lower Jasaan Community
Night Barangay High School when it was established in 1972. The first principal was Mr.
Francisco C. Galarrita, and Mr. Sancho Lorcha was then the first PTA President. The
name was changed to Lower Jasaan Barangay High School in 1976 when it started to
open day sessions. For obvious reasons, it was changed to Jasaan Municipal High
School in1984. Then, in 1989, the school got its present name Jasaan National High
School upon its nationalization.
The school’s first enrollment was composed of 335 First Year and Second Year
Level students. In 1973, Third Year level was opened and consequently, the Fourth
Year level in 1974. Its first commencement exercises was held on March 1975, making
its graduates the pioneers of Jasaan National High School. The school started its
operations with only seven volunteer teachers namely: Mrs. Isabelita Adriano who at
the same time acted as the school’s first School In Charge (SIC), Mr. Roberto
Patalinghug, Mrs. Basilia Patalinghug, Mrs. Josefina Reyes, Mr. Mario Zayas, Mr. Luiz
Zayas and Ms. Angelita Bade. Ms. Bade also served as the School’s Registrar.
The realization and gradual improvement of Jasaan National High School were
attributed to the sincere efforts and dedication of its “Founding Fathers”. Foremost
among these personalities was the former Municipal Mayor of the Municipality, Hon.
Juan Azcuna Po. He was born on January 26,1930 and became a councilor of the
Municipal Council of Jasaan from 1963 to 1967. He was elected Mayor in 1972 up to
1981, an OIC in 1986-1987, and elected Vice-Mayor in 2001-2004. Others who worked
with him and made valuable contributions to the school were Barangay Chairman of
Lower Jasaan, Hon. Manuel A. Po, Mr. Norberto Patalinghug, School in Charge of
Jasaan Central School, Poblete Logging, Oca Sawmill and Mr. Sancho C. Lorcha, who
was elected GPTA President of Jasaan Central School. The latter, being the GPTA
President in 1968, drafted a resolution to open the Jasaan Barangay High School and
forwarded the same to the Barangay Council. Then, the Barangay Chairman brought
the matter to the Sangguniang Bayan, then to the Provincial Board of Misamis
Oriental. Governor Concordio C. Diel immediately acted upon it by bringing the matter
personally to the Philippine Senate. Then, it was passed to the Department of
Education Culture and Sports (now Dep Ed) purposely to avail the new law on the
creation of Barangay and Community Colleges which was authored by Dr. Pedro
Orata during the time of President Ferdinand E. Marcos. Finally, the establishment of
what is now Jasaan National High School was approved by Secretary Juan Manuel of
the Bureau of Secondary Schools.
