MUSIC ECOSYSTEM!
WELCOME TO MUVSIC! How powerful is this then?
As you can see, these are the people involved in working around the
artistic product. If this means a song, these are the INDIVIDUALS involved
in making the song, if it’s a video, these people are the ones involved in
making the video. Just the same thing happens if it is a concert, an album,
or any other product imaginable.
EXECUTIVES:
As you can see, these are the people involved in working around all the
executive and administrative areas revolving the Music Ecosystem.
ORGANIZATIONS:
Different from Creatives and Executives, organizations are COMPANIES and GROUPS
OF PEOPLE -Organizations are not individuals- that belong to the Music Ecosystem.
Their labour can revolve both around the creative or the executive process, and
sometimes both.
It works like a Fan Page, where you and your teammates can
manage an alternate MUV profile from your personal or
institutional profile. This will help a lot when you need our
own personal profile and also belong to various bands,
groups, or any other music project!
Our last category in the Music Ecosystem are the
listeners, those people who enjoy music but
don’t work in any area surrounding it. How else
can we explain? Well anyway, you probably don’t
need explanations of this category.

The Music
Industry
before 2018
As you might already know, we’re emerging from a time of great
transition in the Music Industry. With the coming of the Internet and the shared
economy, we began seeing a profound change in the way we interact with music.
Music recording and distribution has changed, music consumption has changed,
music marketing, education, technology, almost every aspect of our interaction
with music has evolved along with our new tools.
In the early 2000’s, almost everyone in the Industry was anxious about the future of
the Industry. And in many ways, they were right to do so, what we had known was
the big Recorded Music production, and that area of the Industry plummeted.
Economically speaking, Recorded Music was the most affected area. Other areas
such as live events, synchronization rights, instrument production or music
education were not affected as much. Anyway, good thing now, is that after years of
decrease in revenue from music recording, since 2015 we’ve had an increase in
revenue from this particular area, given mainly to digital streaming.

as the Music Industry was meant to evolve. Same as the television, telephone,
literature, art, cinema or any other either cultural or artistic industry, the Music
Industry needed to make it’s transition into the 21st Century. Which leads us to
the Music Ecosystem of…
TODAY
Even though currently there is no real

of the Music Industry as it is a very
large and heavily informal market, it
has been constantly growing in the

So great! We then find ourselves in a time of economic and artistic growth in the Music
Industry. Join that with the fact that half the world’s population is connected to the internet
and we have an opportunity cocktail!
New ideas, technologies and platforms are changing how to interact with the Music
Industry: Patronage, Crowdfunding, Live Streams and so many others might just take us
to new places.

How then to make the best of this situation?
Chose your Path:
1.
Composer and Producer Nick Gunn in his article “15 Things you must to to make it in
the Music Industry” strongly recommends to be excellent at your Craft. Sometimes it
happens that in the Music Industry, everybody does everything. It may seem counter-
intuitive at the beginning, but it’s best when you excel at your craft. So choose a path
and be the best you can at it.
2.
This may just sound too harsh, but the reality is that you now not only best be
online, but have the tools to give the best possible impression of yourself and your
work.
3.
Bobby Borg, the author of “Music Marketing for the DIY Musician” published in
Billboard “Support other bands and make powerful alliances”. Don’t
underestimate the power of connections, use the new tools for connectivity in this
interconnected era to your favor. Actually, this is what we’re all about. You will
need great teammates to make it big.
Persistence:
4.
Heather McDonald in her article “5 ways to blow your music career”
explicitly says: “The slower and steady approach usually wins
the race”. Be persistent and smart.
We will keep on growing!
The president of the World Bank, Jim Yong Kim, has many
times stated that in 2030, it’s expected that 65% of all current jobs
will cease to exist.
