Block and file explained

Block explained
IP-SAN, also known as Internet Small Computer System
Interface (iSCSI), is offered by utilising the two main protocols
SCSI and TCP/IP to deliver limitless connectivity over distance
while minimising performance loss.

This type of storage is provided by using iSCSI in target mode

and is available to all client systems using iSCSI in initiator
mode. Through iSCSI interface, clients can use portions of the
target storage which presents block-based storage as locally
native hard drives.

File explained
Network Attached Storage, better known as NAS, is a self-
contained disk array, that is accessed by users without system
configuration or installation. The data is stored in its entirety
as a complete file, which makes this type of file-based storage
easily viewed and accessed by multiple operating systems
and users at any given moment.

Using network protocols such as SMB/CIFS and NFS provides

the target arrays available storage to appear to clients as a file
with system.
