To Whom It May Concern:

It is with great excitement that I express my interest in joining the team of educators in your school
district. I am currently a senior at Butler University completing a B.S. degree in Middle/Secondary
Education and Mathematics. After obtaining my Indiana license in May, I will apply for Texas licensure
in order to receive an out-of-state certificate.

I am seeking opportunities to collaborate with math educators to implement a strong curriculum and
provide space for students to investigate, create, and lead learning experiences. I am devoted to
developing mutual respect and positive relationships with all students. I design learning engagements
that allow students to discover connections between course objectives, other academic disciplines, and
the real world.

I had the privilege of student teaching at Pike High School and Zionsville West Middle School. Both
placements provided me with valuable opportunities to implement student-centered and differentiated
lessons for diverse learners.

At Pike High School, I curated learning experiences where students actively engaged in mathematical
conversations. For example, my students participated in gallery walk style presentations to master their
understanding of exponential growth and decay. By offering appropriate supports and scaffolding
academic language, all of my Algebra I students could eagerly communicate their understanding. I
instilled a growth mindset in students by creating low-stakes opportunities for them to try different ideas
without fear of being wrong, allowing everyone to see the value of struggling and making mistakes.

Each day at Zionsville West Middle School, I went beyond developing my student’s procedural fluency
and problem solving skills. I crafted unique, hands-on learning experiences for students to investigate
mathematical phenomena, such as the Triangle Inequality Theorem and Pythagorean Theorem, with
concrete representations. Through reflecting and conceptualizing these investigations, my middle school
students began to see mathematics as a subject of depth, creativity, and connections.

My commitment to promoting a growth mindset and educating the whole child through student-centered
instruction will be a positive contribution to your district’s mission. I look forward to the opportunity to
discuss my application with you in the near future.

Sincerely,

Evan Ayers
