 Biographies are alphabetical listing of biographical sketches of famous personalities.

Skimming is a selective reading technique where your eyes move fast through the page to

locate a particular fact, detail or a piece of information. The main idea is the most thought that an

author wants to convey in a paragraph. It is what the paragraph develops. It is the core of the

contents in the paragraph.

Interference are evidence-based guesses. These are the assumptions, suppositions and

conclusions a reader draws about what is unsaid based on what is actually said.

Reading to predict outcomes is a kind of reading where you are to identify the expected

results or probable consequences based on the situations in the selections. Reading to conclude is

a type of comprehension in which the important details are gathered in order to draw

conclusions.

An outline is a diagram that shows tropical organization. It is the process of breaking a

selection into different topics. The skeleton of an outline shows the relationship among all the

topics.

A summary is a shorten version of a story or a writer’s work. It requires a clear

understanding and good vocabulary skills to shorten the story.

Opinions are preceded by signal words such as: I think, to my mind, I believe, to me, I

contend that, I conclude that, in my view, from my point of view, and personally.

Semantic webbing or mapping is a process of organizing and integrating information that

underlies many theories and conceptual thinking.

The effectivity of your communication skill reflects on your relationship with others.

Communication is a process of sharing information to others or to yourself. The decoding

depends on the people involved in the conversation. A communicator, then will have to be aware

of the unique qualities of the people he/she wants to understand. The following are list which

makes communication possible.

 Senders are the one who creates the message

 Receivers are the one who decodes the message

 Message are the content which is passed from the sender to the receiver

 Medium is where the message travelled or what instrument are used to send the message

The types of communication:

 Intrapersonal communication is where one person is talking to his/herself

 Interpersonal communication is where there are two or more persons are involved

 Small group communication is where they all sit down and discuss

 Public communication is where one individual addresses a large quantity of people

Barriers in communication:

 Gender barriers are the different styles of communication between male and female

 Interpersonal barriers are created from distancing oneself to his/her self

 Perceptual barriers are created from the different perspective of individuals

 Cultural barriers depends on the community you are in

 Emotional barrier occurs if one is unstable with his/her emotions

The power of language is shown by placing emphasis on hierarchy and control.

Language allows us to compare things so that we can decide or make a better judgment.

Influence is manifested in convincing people to your idea/product. Integrative or continuously

offsetting any disintegration at the interpersonal or at the organizational level is an important

function if communication. Communication allows you to express your emotions and satisfaction

of social needs.

Nonverbal communication is everything that communicates a message, but does not

include words. Here are the of the tips that can help you read nonverbal signals:

1. Mind what's not said

2. Watch for non-verbal cues

3. Tone matters

4. Eye contact tells others you're interested

5. When in doubt, ask
