Ephesians 2:10
We are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do
the good things he planned for us long ago. (NLT)
Thinking about my life, I have come to realize who I am and whose I am. This is very
important for me because as a young person, I struggled with my identity and my self-image.
I did not like the way I looked or who I was.
The enemy tries to tell us all kinds of lies about who we are. The enemy says we are ugly,
too old, too young, too sick, or in too much pain. The enemy says we have made too many
mistakes or that we are useless. The enemy told me that I would never amount to anything
because I was born with Noonan’s Syndrome. The enemy said I’d always be lesser than other
people. However, God tells us the truth of who we are and whose we are. God tells us that we
are his masterpiece, created to do good things he planned for us long ago. God tells us that we
are created in his image (Genesis 1:26-27). God tells us that we are children of God (1 John 3:1).
God tells us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14). God tells us that before
we were formed in our mother’s womb, he knew us (Psalm 139:13).
The Apostle Paul explains that our identity is in Christ (Galatians 2:20). He says that
Christ lives through us. And this rings true because God has the propensity to do amazing things
through people who may not appear to be capable on the surface. God used Moses to speak to
Pharaoh on behalf of the Israelites. Pharaoh was the most powerful man in the world at the time
and Moses had a speech impediment. But God was with Moses. God made Moses capable.
Moses’s responsibility was to trust in the Lord.
When I surrendered my life to Christ, a dramatic change began to occur. I began to
recognize my God-given gifts. My youth pastor began giving me opportunities to preach to my
youth group and church. I went from thinking I would never amount to anything to being used
by God. My joy and hope didn’t rely on this body with which I was born, but on my identity in
Christ. God even used my physical struggles so that I could testify to other people who were also
struggling. God redeemed me and continues to use me in ways I could never have imagined.
You are a child of God, and you are God’s masterpiece.
