Students
Important information for applying for a
place on the international degree
programme

BSc Information Engineering

at

Hamburg University
of Applied Sciences
Welcome!

 We're delighted that you're interested

in our pioneering, international, 100%
Christine Reinking English language degree programme
International Student
Coordinator BSc Information Engineering.
Prof Dr Lutz Leutelt  This guide aims to provide you with the
Program Coordinator
necessary information to successfully
apply for a place on the course and get
your studies off to a smooth start.
 Since our ASIIN-accredited degree
programme BSc Information
Engineering was first introduced in
1999 we have been preparing
international students from more than
30 nations for the technological
challenges of tomorrow.
What is Information
Engineering?
 The acquisition, processing and
transmission of information is the key
component of all intelligent digital
systems today.
 Examples of application are the
Internet of Things, automation
technology and autonomous driving
technology.
 Sensors provide information about the
state of a system or a given situation.
This data is transferred using bus
systems such as Ethernet or wireless
systems, evaluated by software on
micro-controllers and then compared
with databases, enabling the system to
react using an algorithm to the new
situation.
A good combination.
 With the focus on information technology,
electrical engineering and computer
science, the range of subjects covered in the
BSc Information Engineering programme
provides you with a solid basis for working
with these modern technologies, as well as
with future technologies.

Your professional
future.
 Our graduates are in high demand
both in Germany and internationally as
soon as they complete their Bachelor's
degree.
 You can begin your career in a start-
up, a large company or – typical for
Germany – in a mid-sized, globally
successful technology company (a
hidden champion).
 Typical positions are software or
hardware developer, systems architect,
technical consultant, and marketing
and distribution positions in the
technology sector.
 Your international background is
your trump card and can give your
future company/employer access to
new markets.
 Entry-level salaries are currently
around 50,000 € per year.
Is this the right degree
for me?
 You should have a strong interest in
technology – the big picture as well as
the smallest details.
 You work independently to acquire new
knowledge and pursue your ideas
tenaciously, even in tricky situations.
 You enjoyed maths and the technical
and science subjects at school.
 You're interested not only in the
software aspects of modern
technologies, but also in the hardware.

studies at other universities regardless of the
country of origin. An individual assessment will
take place once you have begun your studies at
the HAW Hamburg.
