DRACULA

Chapters 1–2

Jonathan Harker, a lawyer’s clerk, travelled to the home of Count Dracula. Dracula wanted to buy a house in
England and Jonathan had been sent to finalise the contract. Strange things began to happen. Firstly, Dracula
never ate any food. Then, whilst Jonathan wasa shaving, Dracula silently entered the room and was angry at the
sight of a mirror. He threw it out the window. One night, he saw Dracula crawling down the castle wall like an
animal.

Chapters 3–4

Jonathan realised that he was being kept prisoner in the castle and decided to escape. He knew he had to get the
key to the door, but it was in the Count’s room. He crawled down the wall and into Dracula’s room where he saw
lots of boxes. In one of them, lying on some earth in a sort of trance, was Dracula.

Back in England, Jonathan’s girlfriend, Mina, and her friend Lucy were worried about Jonathan. One night, Mina
found Lucy in the garden, a black shape close to her. Mina also noticed that her friend had two small wounds on
her neck. Lucy became ill and mystified, Doctor Seward wrote to his friend, Professor Van Helsing.

Chapters 5–6

Lucy was very ill and Van Helsing performed a blood transfusion. Then he surrounded the girl with garlic flowers
and ordered that the windows and doors were shut. The next day they discovered the dead body of Lucy’s mother
lying next to her dying daughter. Lucy, with pointed white teeth and a changed face, asked her boyfriend, Arthur,
to kiss her. Van Helsing prohibited that and Lucy lied back and died.

Chapters 7–8

Days after the death, local children were discovered with marks on their necks similar to Lucy’s. Van Helsing
suggested to Seward that Lucy made the marks on the children and that she was a vampire. After midnight, Van
Helsing, Seward, Arthur and Quincey Morris went to Lucy’s tomb. Lucy was not in her coffin but they wait until
morning and saw her returning with a child. When Lucy returned to her coffin, Arthur, under instruction from Van
Helsing, pushed a wooden stick into her heart, and the vampire was dead.

Chapters 9–10

One day the men found Mina in the arms of a man and she was drinking blood from his chest. They showed him
their crosses and the vampire disappeared. Mina was worried that she would become a vampire.

Chapter 11

The men discovered that Dracula was travelling home to his castle on a ship. They took a train to Varna to
intercept the ship, without success. They splited into three groups and followed Dracula by ship, horse, and train.
All the time Mina was slowly turning into a vampire. Near the castle they caught up with Dracula. Jonathan and
Quincey Morris cut off Dracula’s head just as he was waking up. Dracula’s body completely disappeared. At the
same time, Mina recovered her looks, and her soul was saved.
