Crusaders of Light: Shepherd’s Guide

i. Introduction

Hey my name is Hunter (Battylol/Insaneaussie) and I’d like to welcome and say grats on
choosing the most versatile class by the way. Short and sweet, you get three options with this
class. You can AoE dps, single target dps, or aoe heal. Obviously, you are here for the guide of
healing, so that is what we are going to be breaking down today. Multiple things to go over:
● Path skills/rundown
● Gear attributes
● Gems
● Rune Overview
● Rotation/How to play
● Conclusion

ii. Path skills

So, for path skills, now with the new updates, Mystics have 10 skill slots, creating a lot of wiggle room
for spells. We are covering the ones most important to being a Shepherd. As a Shepherd, you have 6
spells that do some form of healing or shielding, leaving us to help with crowd control, damage, or
utility. Let’s go over the spells that most shepherds are using nowadays and prove to be the most
effective. Keep in mind one space is reserved for auto attacks.

Single healing healing spell, can also be used for

damage. Specific procs allow this to heal up to 3

members nearby in pulses.

Single target shield primarily used on tanks or

anyone who is in need. Easily the most important spell for healing. AoE
healing as well as damage up to 5 people.

target, also a healing over time ability.

enhanced by other spells.

target with Enlightenment. Consolation heals
up to 5 Enlightened targets.

iii. Gear Attributes

For equipment you want to prioritize 5 things in item statistics as a Shepherd: Intellect, Spirit,
Defense, Spell Defense. Each piece of gear received regardless of which rarity it is (Common,
Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary), will have a grade for that piece of gear (D, C, B, A, S, SS). The

higher the rating is on the equipment, the higher base stats you will have for that equipment,
such as Health, Defense, Spell Defense, and Mana Points and increased in the picture above. As
a Shepherd, you are ranged, so defense isn’t really a must have, and you have shields and heals
to compensate for it. On top of that, you have a lot of cc and mobility to help get you out of
those sticky situations anyway.

iv. Embedded Gems

The equipment you will find best and most suiting for your Templar will have sockets available.
Thank goodness for you that there is no RNG to the number of sockets in a set of gear. However,
which sockets to
put in there are
very important to
your success in
tanking.

These 4 gems are the main gem sets that you will need
to be an efficient tank for Crusaders of Light on a Templar Paladin. Now these 4 epic gems don’t
come easy, the fastest way to get one of these gems takes about 2 days’ time. Costing 13 million
silver for each Epic Diamond gem, make sure you have your proper income which is covered in
our Gold and Silver farming guide.
The proper way to get to these Epic Diamond gems, is to polish 5 Epic Gems, using a Gem
Grinder.

The way these gems are made is from Polishing 6 Rare gems, such as depicted below.

Now the easiest way to start out with gem purchasing is purchasing level 40 gems in Rare quality
as a temporary placeholder while you are getting your epic gems ready every 2 days. Keep in
mind that you can only buy 8 Rare gems a day but you can buy 80 Uncommon gems of the same
type. So, the quickest way to get to the Epic Diamonds is to buy 16 Rares, and 128 Uncommons,
polish them all together to get your Epic Diamond.

To give you an idea as to how important gems are for success CoL – this will show the difference
between not having socketed equipment with gems and have gems in your gear.

v. Path Rundown

Path of the Shepherd is the specialization which allows Mystics to have increased healing,
reduce target being healed damage taken by 10%, and allows Arcane Shield to restore
target’s HP by 30% every 20 seconds. Increasing your path level will also increase your
Vitality Stat by 2 points per level (30 HP), Intellect by 2 points per level (Spell
Damage/Healing by 2), and Spirit by 2 points per level (30 Mana Points and 2 Defense/Spell
Defense). While it’s very important to level your main path up high, what is inside of the
path, talent trees, is the most vital. Broken up in to 2 different trees, let’s take a look at the
different path talents and the importance of them.

vi. Runes Overview

Runes are the last portion of increasing the Shepherd’s statistics, but definitely not the least.
They include resistance increase by percentages, shield
increase by percentages, cooldowns reduced by
seconds, etc. The way runes are broken are broken are
in to 3 categories: Bloodline, Arcane, and Void Runes.
How you go about upgrading these runes are using
essences. Let’s take a look deeper in to the most
important runes for the role of the Shepherd.

vii. Rotation/How to play

Now that we’ve gotten the nitty gritty out of the way, let’s talk about how to actually play
the Shepherd as a healer. In this section, rotations of spells during fights will be discussed
and how to maximize your healing and crowd control potential. It’s fairly mechanic base, so
have a look and pay close attention for efficiently playing a Mystic.

1) Always start with Arcane shield after the tank has taken the first hit to apply the 20 second

nd heal them instantly while apply
the shield. Also lay down Light Sigil after this.***
2) Usually you will then Aurora yourself and team around to negate and heal any splash damage
coming your way.

3) Help DPS using purifying blast and heal tank/party, and use mystic galaxy if tanks/party fine on

4) ***Conditional: if you have the 2-piece Divine set bonus, Light Sigil will be used here to reset the
cooldown of Purifying Blast.

5) Arcane Shield should be back up, if your tank is dying or

someone needs it, use it; otherwise, save it to apply the
instant heal on tank and just use your basic heal (auto
attack). Saving mana is key, due to the fact that no boss
fight ends in 3-4 minutes.
6) This is where it gets tricky, each boss is different. So, you have to watch and anticipate carefully
for when you’re needing to shield your tank/team or preemptively start casting purifying blast to
heal massive pulses of AoE burst coming your way, i.e. Gruder in the Mystica, after he rock
throws, he will auto attack the tank twice and just before the 3 rd auto he begins to channel Anger
Combo. So, wait about 1 second after the 2nd auto attack and then start casting Purifying Blast
and use Consolation if needed. No matter how geared you or the party is, on Nightmare or Hell
he will kill all of you if the timing isn’t just right. Learn and adapt on bosses.
7) Rinse and repeat. Your job is healing/keeping the party alive. Dps when you can with PB twice
with divine, Mystic Galaxy, Force of Will, and Dreadfall, because anything helps but just
remember your role.

8) Watch for chances to use Void Walk to close a gap to heal someone or dodge a Gruder charge, or
even help you get behind that barrel on Mantalusk, closing green chains on Devoidra or
spreading to cancel red chains.

BONUS: PvP Section

1) As a Shepherd, your role in PvP is to peel and heal, haha. What that means is your
using your spells like Dreadfall to knockup enemy players channeling a big cast or to
relieve pressure off of your melee getting shot in the face by a Ranger while getting
bit by their pet.
2) Remember your 20 second cooldown on Arcane shield and use it off cooldown for
good shields.
3) Purifying Blast twice with divine set behind walls out of line of sight to keep your
team alive while doing good damage to enemies.
4) Aurora is an awesome ability to negate consistent damage like Ranger autos or
warrior AoE buffs for the whole team. Try and place it where team will stay over the
course of the fight for the healing over time.
5) Watch for Affliction debuffs on your allies and try not to blow all of your healing
during that unless it’s urgent because that reduces healing by 50%.
6) Use void walk to get out of open areas, help burst someone down, or get in a better
position for healing your allies.
7) Always remember your job is to keep the team alive and peel enemies off of them,
not do all the damages.
viii. Conclusion

I sincerely hope you learned something from this Shepherd Mystic guide and I had a blast
making it. Use it as a reference and pass it along to any friends/family that want to play a
healer. With the level cap being increased the guide will be updated very soon to
accommodate any new runes or skills that may come from it. Let GoodGameGaming know if
you have any questions about the game or our guild or anything! My name is Hunter… have
a great one gang.
