PAL(phase alternation by line)

▶ Developed in Germany ,on 1967
▶ In every other line the R-Y signal is transmitted by inverting phase(180 degree).
▶ By combining two horizontal lines, using a delay line in the TV set,
two lines can be combined and any phase error can be cancelled.
Æ Phase(Chroma) distortion is reduced. (Automatic hue control)
▶ Color sub-carrier 4.43MHz
▶ Nation : West Europe (except France),China,Brazil etc..

SECAM(sequential chrominance and memory)

▶Developed in France, on 1967
▶One color signal at a time, transmitting chrominance signal (the R-Y signal and the B-Y signal)
alternately by delay one line.
▶FM modulation for color which is not effected by phase shift removes the problem
during transmission that will effect the color hue nor saturation.
▶ Color sub-carrier 4.4MHz and 4.25MHz is used for R-Y and B-Y
▶ Nation : France,CIS,East Europe etc..

3) De-emphasis Circuit (For improving S/N ratio)

; Noise sensitivity of high frequency is poor
To compensate this problem, transmitter amplifies high frequency part with high-pass AMP (Pre-emphasis)
▶ Receiver needs De-emphasis circuit(low pass filter) for decreasing high frequency.
4) To avoid interference with color signal, use FM modulation & transmit by decreasing amplitude.
5) Mono : same sound pressure in two speaker.
Stereo : different sound pressure in two speker. sound form is moved.
Surround : different sound pressure & Phase. user can feel the sound form in the outside of speaker .

DCF(Digital Comb Filter)

The Comb filter separates the color information from luminance
signal to avoid cross color on the
luminance(Y) signal and to eliminates edge crawls.
Adaptive Digital 2-H comb filter is compatible with
PAL and NTSC systems.
ACMS plus Existing Comb Filter Digital Comb Filter ( 4H )
ACMS plus(Auto Channel Memory System and Station Labeling) function makes a TV set automatically
search all the active channels and to store the names of broadcasting stations by VPS and PDC information.
This makes it possible to display a station name on the screen and to edit programs.

Especially, in case of CATV or BSTV broadcast system,
the difference of modulation ratio is more serious than normal system.
Whenever customer change the channel, volume level should be also adjusted again.
AVL function makes uniform sound-output level, independently of various modulation ratio.
AVL function can solve upper inconvenience of customer’s needless operation.
So, it’s very powerful and useful function for customer.
AVL function of applied to LCD TV chassis can make uniform
sound-output level( 60% modulation ratio)
from 30% under-modulation to 300% over-modulation ratio.
AVL modulation ratio is 60%, it’s base on 60% modulation ratio.

BLOCK DIAGRAM DESCRIPTION
1. Video Controller Unit & Display Data Conversion Unit

The video controller unit receives the video signals inputted through the tuner, AV port (VIDEO1, VIDEO2),
and converts them into an ITU656 signal through the microcomputer (VCTI) combined
with the video decoder that integrates various functions in one chip.
Either the analog RGB(FLI2300) signal or PC RGB signal is selected by the switching IC and inputted to a scaler (GM2221),
which is sent to the LCD module after being modified to an LVDS signal through the integrated LVDS IC.
VCTi is the main microprocessor that handles video signal processing and sound signal processing.
It also manages the RF signals received from the tuner.
The scaler can control timing to fit into the LCD panel, and can also control the size and position of the inputsignal.
2. Power Supply Unit

The power supply unit provides 24V, 12V and 5V DC power to the mainboard.
The PWM Step-Up DC/DC Converter circuit is used to generate the 33V used for the tuner.
Supplied 24V power is descended by the 13.3V step-down DDC. 13.3V provides source to sound amplifier IC.
24V power is also used to generate 5V and 3.3V power through the Step-Down DC/DC Converter and supplied 12V.
5V power is converted to 3.3V and 1.8V power through the regulator,
which in turn supplies electrical power for ICs such as VCTI and scaler

SETUP
1. The initial screen after power on is

SETUP
Each part of SETUP Menu is as follows.

A: Title Window explains the selected main menu item in word.
B: Menu Window shows main menu items in icon.
C: The 2nd depth window shows sub menu items belong to the selected main menu item.
D: The 3rd depth window shows the alternatives related to the selected sub menu item.
E: Help Window guides user’s key input available depending on setup step at that time.

SETUP Showing entering and escape from Setup Menu, Language Setup DVD(●) VCD(●) CD-DA(●) MP3/WMA(●) JPEG(●)
SETUP, △,▽, ▷, PLAY
1. Press SETUP in the stop or playback mode, and the SETUP menu is displayed.
2. Press △,▽ key to select the desired menu, and Title is changed by the selected menu.
3. While main menu has the cursor(highlighted in yellow), the 3rd depth window shows the currently selected values
for the corresponding sub menu items.
4. Press ▷ key to move the current Cursor into 2nd depth window.
5. Press SETUP or PLAY key to exit the Setup Menu at any time.
It results in resume stop condition by SETUP exit, and resume play condition by PLAY exit.
Language Setup
1. When the 1st item in main menu is highlighted as shown below, and “LANGUAGE” appears on Title window.
2. In Language Setup you can select the languages of OSD, Disc Audio, Disc Subtitle, and Disc Menu separately.

Assuming the cursor is within the 2nd depth window as shown in figure,
1. Press △,▽ key to select the desired sub menu item,
and then 3rd depth window shows alternatives belong to the selected one.
2. Press ▷ key to move the cursor into the 3rd depth window.
3. After step 2, press ◁ key then the cursor moves back into the menu window.

Assuming the cursor is within the 3rd depth window as shown in figure,
1. Press △,▽ key to move the cursor on the desired one of items in the 3rd depth windows
and press SELECT/ENTER key to select setting.
2. Otherwise, without pressing SELECT/ENTER key, press ◁ key,
then the cursor moves back into the 2nd depth window without any change.

1. Select the 2nd item in main menu to setup the Display. Then “DISPLAY” appears on Title window.
2. In Display Setup you can select TV Aspect Ratio, Display Mode, Progressive Scan On/Off.
3. “Display Mode” , which is a sub menu item, includes Letterbox and Panscan.
“Display Mode” item is active only when TV Aspect ratio is 4:3.
When TV Aspect ratio is 16:9, it is inactive(gray colored) and the cursor moves skipping it.

SETUP Display Setup (2/2): turning on Progressive Scan DVD(●) VCD(●) CD-DA(●) MP3/WMA(●) JPEG(●)
1. Move and place the cursor using △,▽,◁,▷ key as shown in <figure 1> to turn on Progressive Scan
and then press SELECT/ENTER key.
2. Progressive Scan becomes turned on, and the message box for confirmation appears on screen as shown in <figure 2>.
At initial the cursor is placed on “Cancel” button.
3. To maintain Progressive Scan on press ◁,▷ key to select “Enter” button and press SELECT/ENTER key.
4. If 10 seconds pass without key input at step 2, the message box disappears and Progressive Scan comes back to OFF.
5. Assuming the situation that the connected TV is not progressive compatible but Player’s progressive scan is on,
the method as above is of no use because the screen is scrambled.
To avoid this danger we provide a hidden method which can turn off Progressive scan with one key.
In stop status with Setup Menu off, press STOP key and hold for 5 seconds then Progressive scan comes to OFF.

1. Select the 3rd item in main menu to setup the Audio. Then “AUDIO” appears on Title window.
2. In Audio Setup you can select Dolby Digital, DTS, MPEG, Sample Freq., 5.1 Speaker Setup, DRC, and Vocal.
As one example, 5.1 Speaker Setup

1. Press △,▽ key to select the 5.1CH speaker setup among items in the 2nd depth window.
2. press ▷ key to select the “Select” item which is only one in the 3rd window and the press SELECT/ENTER key.
3. The new Audio Setup screen appears which is dedicated for 5.1 Speaker Setup. (next page)

1. At first the cursor is placed on Speaker Selection box.

Press ◁,▷ key to select the speaker whose options you want to change.
2. Press △,▽ key to select one of the options including Size, Volume, Distance, and Test On/Off.
3. You can change the value of the selected option by using ◁,▷ key.
4. Test : Press ◁,▷ key to test signals of each speaker.
Adjust Volume to match to the volume of test signals memorized in the system.
5. Return :
Press SELECT/ENTER key to save and return to the previous screen.
Press RETURN key to return to the previous screen without change.
Press SETUP or PLAY key to exit the Setup Menu.

• Range: The volumes of speakers except Front L/R are adjustable from –10 dB to 0 dB with 1 dB step.

• Test order is Front L -> Center -> Front R -> Rear R -> Rear L -> Sub Woofer repeatedly.
• The speaker selected as None is skipped.

1. Select the 4th item in main menu to setup the Locking related things. Then “LOCK” appears on Title window.
2. In Lock Setup you can select Rating, Password, and Country Code.
3. If no password is registered, the initial screen looks as in <figure 1>.

3. When password is registered successfully the cursor appears on the 3rd depth window.

When you have already entered a password, the input box named “Password” will be appear, which requires the password.
Enter a 4-digit password using the numbered button to confirm the personal 4-digit security password, then press SELECT/ENTRER
key.
3. If your entered password is valid, the box disappears and the cursor appears on the 3rd depth window.
Press △,▽ key to select the desired rating and press SELECT/ENTER key.
4. If your entered password is invalid, the box is on continuously and the digits you entered are cleared.

Setting password for the first time

1. Select Password of sub menu items to set or change password.
2. Press ▷ key to select “New” which is the only item in the 3rd
depth window, and press SELECT/ENTER key.
3. The input box for new setting will appear. Enter a 4-digit
password using the numbered button then press SELECT/ENTER
key.
4. The input box for verifying will be appear. Enter the password
again and press SELECT/ENTER key.
If your entered passwords are not the same, the verifying box is
on continuously and the digits you entered are cleared.
5. If you mistake before pressing SELECT/ENTER key, press CLEAR
key to delete the entered all digits or press ◁ key to delete one by
one and correct it.

Changing the password

1. Select Password of sub menu items to set or change password.
2 Press ▷ key to select “Change” which is the only item in the 3rd
depth window, and press SELECT/ENTER key.
3. The input box for old password will be appear. Enter the 4-digit
password and press SELECT/ENTER key.
If your entered password is not valid, the password box is on
continuously and the digits you entered are cleared.
4. Follow step 3~5 in case of setting a password for the first time.
The method which initializes the password
(necessary If the user forgets his or her password)
1. Press SETUP key to enter Setup Menu mode.
2. Use the numbered keys to enter the 6-digit number “210499”
3. The 4-digit password is cleared, “P CLr” appears on the FLD for a
moment.

SETUP Lock Setup (6/8) : Changing country code when no PW registered DVD(●) VCD(●) CD-DA(●) MP3/WMA(●) JPEG(●)
SETUP, △,▽,◁,▷, SELECT/ENTER
1. Select Country Code of sub menu items to change country code setting.
If no password is registered, the input box named “New” will be appear, which forces you to register the password .
The procedure for password registering is the same as in Password Setup of sub menu.
3. When password is registered successfully the cursor appears on the first character box in the 3rd depth window.
Select the first character using △,▽ key.
According as the first character is changed, the second character is changed automatically for country code to be first one
of predefined Country Code set, which starts with the first character entered.
4. Shift the cursor using ▷ key and select the second character using △,▽ key.
At this time the first character you entered is fixed.
The second one is limited to characters which compose one of the predefined country code set together with the first
character .
5. Press SELECT/ENTER key to confirm your country code selection.
6. Only when the country code of the loaded disc coincides with one you entered, the parental rating is effective.

Playing MP3/WMA disc

1. If other media type is selected in media type tab, Press TTILE, ◁,▷, and ELECT/ENTER keys to select MP3 tab.
2. At the left side, in Play List the list of folders and MP3 files appears.
3. You can navigate in file list by △,▽ keys or enter a folder by pressing SELECT/ENTER key when the folder is highlighted.
tip: Press and hold △,▽ keys to move to previous or next page respectively.
4. Press SELECT/ENTER or PLAY key to start playback when the track you want is highlighted.
5. To stop playback at any time, press STOP key.
Pause
1. Press PAUSE during playback
2. To return to playback, press PLAY or PAUSE key again.
Moving to another track

1. Press Forward or Reverse SKIP during playback to go to the next or previous track.
2. To go directly to any track, enter the track number using the digit key(0~9) during playback.
Scan
1. Press SCAN key or press and hold SKIP key for about 2 seconds. The player go into 2x scan mode.
2. Repeat step 1 to select the speed of scan( Reverse 2x,4x,8x or Forward 2x,4x,8x).
3. To exit Scan mode, press PLAY key.

Repeat Track/ALL/Off
1. To repeat the track currently playing, press REPEAT key. The Repeat icon and “TRACK” mark appears on the menu screen.
2. To repeat all tracks on a disc, press REPEAT key again. The Repeat icon and “ALL” mark appears on the menu screen.
Repeat-All mode covers all tracks on a disc, not within current folder.
3. To cancel Repeat mode, press REPEAT key once more, The repeat icon and “TRACK” or “ALL” mark disappears on the menu screen.
Random
1. Press RANDOM key during playback or when playback is stopped. The player begins Random playback and “RANDOM” mark appears
on the menu screen.
Random mode covers all tracks on a disc, not within current folder.
2. To return to normal playback, press RANDOM again. “RANDOM” mark disappears on the menu screen.
3D Surround
1. Press SOUND key to select 3D sound effect. “3D SOUND” mark appears on the menu screen.
2. To turn off the 3D sound effect, press SOUND key again. “3D SOUND” mark disappears.

The view of media type selection tab varies depending on which media type files the loaded disc includes.
All cases are as follows.
When the disc has two or more types of files, tab combination appears and the desired tab is selected using TITLE key.
In respect of UI MP3 and WMA are the same. Thus the both are regarded as one in media type tab.
1) MP3 only
2) WMA only
3) JPEG only
4) MP3 + WMA
5) MP3 + JPEG
6) WMA + JPEG
7) MP3 + WMA + JPEG

GUI(MP3,WMA,JPEG) indexing rule of files DVD( ) VCD( ) CD-DA( ) MP3/WMA(●) JPEG(●)
MP3, WMA, JPEG browser manage all tracks(or files more generally) attached index number.
This index number is used at play list and current track number indicator.
The indexing rule is as follows.
1. The files within a folder or root are given numbers contiguously in turn as their location on disc.
2. When the folders and files exist together, the files are indexed ahead.
3. The files of folder which appears ahead are indexed ahead of the ones of the other folders.

Adding tracks to Program List and programmed playback

1. Press △,▽ key to select a track on the List.
2. Press △,▽,◁,▷ key to highlight the “Add” icon then press SELECT/ENTER key. Or Press simply PROGRAM key.
The selected track is added to the Program list.
3. Repeat step 1~2 to place additional track on the Program list.
4. Press △,▽,◁,▷ key to move to the Program list.
5. Press △,▽ key to select the track you want to start playing.
6. Press PLAY or SELECT/ENTER key to start.
Playback begins in the order in which you programmed the tracks and “Program” indicator becomes enable on the display
window.
7. To resume normal playback from programmed playback, select a track on the List then press SELECT/ENTER key.
8. If you want to select all tracks at step 2, Press △,▽,◁,▷ key to highlight the “Add all” icon.
At that time all tracks in the List are highlighted in dark gray.
Press SELECT/ENTER key to move all tracks into Program list.
Erasing tracks from Program List

1. Select the track you want to erase from the Program list.
2. Press △,▽,◁,▷ key to highlight the “Delete” icon then press SELECT/ENTER key.
The selected track is deleted on the Program list.
3. Repeat steps 1~2 to delete additional tracks on the Program list.
4. To erase the complete program list, press △,▽,◁,▷ key to highlight the “Delete all” icon, then press SELECT/ENTER key.

Playing CD-DA disc

1. In media type indicator Audio CD appears.
2. At the left side, in Play List the list of tracks appears.
3. You can navigate in track list by △,▽ key and press SELECT/ENTER or PLAY key to start playback when the track you want is
highlighted.
4. To stop playback at any time, press STOP key.
Pause
1. Press PAUSE during playback
2. To return to playback, press PLAY or PAUSE key again.
Moving to another track

1. Press Forward or Reverse SKIP during playback to go to the next or previous track.
2. To go directly to any track, enter the track number using the digit key(0~9) during playback.
Scan
1. Press SCAN key or press and hold SKIP key for about 2 seconds. The player go into 2x scan mode.

Random and Intro Scan

1. Press RANDOM key during playback or when playback is stopped. The player begins Random playback and “RANDOM” mark appears
on the menu screen.

1. Select JPEG tab by pressing TTILE, ◁,▷, and SELECT/ENTER keys.

2. At the left side, in Play List the list of folders and Jpeg files appears.
3. You can navigate in file list by △,▽ key or enter a folder by pressing SELECT/ENTER key when the folder is highlighted.
tip: Press and hold △,▽ key to move to previous or next page respectively.
4. When the Jpeg file is highlighted, the small preview image appears in Preview part.

1. When you press the ‘display’ button in Remote control, GUI picture will be displayed on the MPEG video data
while playing DVD disc. In this case, other OSD which already displayed left-upper side will be cleared at first.
2. After ‘GUI’ is displayed and there is no action ( no user operation, no button activated ), the GUI will
be disappeared automatically after 10 seconds.
3. Normally, if it is first time to display GUI, highlight will be enable ‘Title’ or ‘Track’ area, but if
the GUI already displayed once or more, the highlight will be located on previous location.That means,
highlight location should be memorized before the player goes to open state or power off state.
4. You can make any button be highlighted with UP & Down button and special
keys(Audio,Sound,Title,Subtitle,Angle) corresponding to the buttons. For example, If subtitle button is
selected, you would like to make Audio button be highlighted and selected,you can do it with Up button
assuming that GUI display on the MPEG video data.
5. From top item ( Title or track ) to bottom item ( sound ), or from bottom to top item, up and down arrow
button will be work as wrap around.
6. If you press ‘display’ button while GUI is displayed, the GUI will disappear as soon as possible. In stop state,
if the user press ‘Display’ button, just ‘Title’ item will be shown only. It can be possible to Title play on stop
state. In case of VCD or SVCD, whole GUI will be shown and track search is possible if the disc is VCD1.0 or
PBC mode is off. But any other action is not allowed. ( Ex, Up or Down allow button to move highlight. )
7. Press the STOP, OPEN, MENU, TITLE KEY directly in GUI Mode, and the GUI Icon is cleared first.
8. When you make any button be highlighted with Up & Down and help GUI is displaying from lower part of
the screen.

1.Title Menu is used to control the total contents of the disc.

Therefore the contents of the Menu is different from disc.
2. This item will displays current title and total titles of current disc in case of DVD.
< Pic 1 > < Pic 2 > 3. This item will displays current track and total tracks of current disc in case of VCD 1.0 or
VCD 2.0/ SVCD when PBC mode is off. In case of VCD2.0 or SVCD with PBC mode is on,
‘PBC’ will be displayed instead of track number.
4. ( refer to Pic2 ) In case of PBC on mode, track search will not be allowed. ( Ignore numeric button. )
5. If title search is block by the disc, just displays ‘Prohibit’ mark on right-upper side even if the
user press some numbers or arrow button(refer to Pic3).
6. If total title ( track ) number is smaller than 10, please follows following rules.
-. If the user press some number which is smaller than total title(track) of the disc,
search that title(track) as soon as possible.
-. If the user press some number which is lager that total title(track) of the disc,
ignore the key and no action.
7. If total title(track) number is larger than 10, please follows following rules.
For example, the disc has 30 title(track)s.
-. If the user press number larger than ‘3’(not include ‘3’), just search that title(track).
-. If the user press number smaller that ‘3’(include ‘3’), display ‘number’ and wait 3 seconds.
And if the user press some number within 3 seconds, display total number and search it.
Ex) Current title is ’19’ -> User press ‘2’ -> Display ‘2/30’ – User press ‘5’ -> Display ’25/30’
-> Search title 25.
- If the user don’t press any button within 3 seconds after first digit number pressed,
just search first input number.
8. If total input number is larger than total title(track) number, ignore first pressed number and
search second pressed number.

9. If the user press left or right button, current title(track) number will increase(decrease) by one,

1. In case of DVD, total elapse time will be displayed and track elapse time will be displayed in case of VCD.
2. If highlight is located on this item, ‘-:--:--’ will be displayed in stead of time in case of DVD disc.

1.‘2’ means that audio stream number which is from ‘1’ to ’8’. It’s up to the disc contents.
2.‘KOR’ means that language code for audio stream. means that audio stream type.
There will be 5 kinds of stream type. Dolby digital, MPEG, DTS, PCM, PPCM.
3. ‘2CH’ means that numbers of channel of this audio stream. LFE will displays as X.1 CH.
For example, if the disc has full audio channel, it will displays as 5.1CH.
4. When this item is highlighted, If the user press right arrow button or ‘Audio’ button,
n+1 stream will be output ( if current stream is n ) and if the user press left arrow button,

n-1 stream will be out. In this case, Audio stream change should be allowed. If it is not allowed,
just displays ‘Prohibit’ mark on right-upper side.

9. In case of VCD, ‘Audio’ item just shows audio output type like as Stereo -> Left-> Right.

Left means that it outputs left channel through both left and right channel.
Right means that it outputs right channel through both left and right channel.
This rule will apply to ‘CDDA’ also.
10. Audio stream change is allowed when the player is PLAY state. In pause/slow/scan mode, this
operation will shows Prohibit mark.

8. In changing the Title No. by SKIP key, the MODE GUI of the CHAPTER is not displayed but Title is displayed.

1. Press PAUSE key during playback and turn SHUTTLE key to the right, and the playback speed becomes lower than normal playback speed.
2. In DVD, Press PAUSE key during playback and turn SHUTTLE key to the left, and the direction of the slow playback becomes opposite.
3. In VCD 1.0 / VCD 2.0 / Super-VCD, SLOW mode is not serviced and the prohibition icon is displayed.
4. In DVD, the playback speed is changed by the angle of the SHUTTLE key.
5. In VCD and Super-VCD, x1/8, x1/4, x1/2 SLOW mode is serviced.
6. If you let the SHUTTLE key go SLOW mode is changed to PAUSE mode and then if you press the PLAY key the playback becomes normal.
7. In DVD, SUBTITLE is not displayed.
8. In DVD, SLOW mode is not prohibited according to disc.
9. In VCD and Super-VCD, SLOW mode of the opposite direction is not operated.
10. In CD, SLOW mode is not serviced and the prohibition icon is not displayed.

2. Turn SHUTTLE key into the left, and the playback speed becomes faster to the opposite direction.
3. SCAN speed is changed by the angle of SHUTTLE key. ( there is 5 different speeds in DVD )
4. If you let SHUTTLE key go the playback speed becomes normal.
5. In DVD, SUBTITLE is not displayed and AUDIO is muted.
6. In DVD, SCAN is prohibited according to disc.
7. In DVD disc, there is no x8 scan Mode.
