CLIMATE CHANGE AND ENVIRONMENT

EVENT GUIDELINES
PLANT A SAPLING
1. Survey and Assessment
(a) Find a Place
– Outdoor - Should be legal to plant on. [e.g. barren playgrounds, neglected gardens, college grounds, your own
backyards]
– Indoor - Any place where plants get enough light, air, space and can be watered regularly [e.g. Housing societies,
schools, colleges, offices, canteens]
(b) Select Your Plants
– Factors
- Location [From Point (a) Sunlight, Space, Water]
- Cost/Maintenance
2. Planning
(a) Plan out the area of plantation [which plant to be planted where]
(b) Calculate how many saplings/bulbs etc you may require
(c) Estimate material required [soil, compost/fertiliser]
(d) Estimate activity [Digging, watering, transportation]
(e) Arranging for tree-guards for slow-growing trees with possibility of getting damaged by wind, human or animal
activity. [Optional. Suggestion: In addition, you may attach a name-card to the tree-guard bearing the name of the
person who planted it.]
(f) Collaborations: Look for any agencies or institutes with whom collaboration is possible for resource availibility
and/or accessibility, workforce and any other aid.
3. Pre-Event Report Submission
4. Event
5. Post-Event Report Submission
6. Records and Analysis
(a) Team Coordinators shall gather all Event Reports, and categorise them as per their convenience.
(b) Select a specific Period of Analysis. [Recommended: 2 months]
(c) Check and count how many trees planted successfully grew.
(d) Make a note of successes, failures, and a brief report on the growth of plants and factors that may have affected
them.
(e) Send Analytics Report with above details to Team Coordinator for Record.
SAVE A SPECIES
1. Survey and Assessment
(a) Research and make a note of any endangered or vulnerable species in your region.
(b) List localities [natural habitats] where these species are/were found
(c) List factors affecting the habitat, and other environmental parameters required by the species.
(d) Find out what factors have been compromised with, and the cause of the same.
[IF there are no endangered species in your country, or saving them is deemed improbable, then:
i) Select any endangered species in the world, specifically one in your neighbouring countries, or a common one
people can relate to. e.g. Polar Bears
ii) Create social campaigns related to it.]
(e) Visit a National Park, and ask how you might be able to help them.
(f) Visit a school, college or other such local institutions, and educate its members of the species and why it is at risk
of extinction.
2. Planning
(a) Plan out how you can attempt to restore the compromised factors to an acceptable state
(b) Collaborations: Seek aid from any expert, institution, activist group who may be able to aid you in this endeavour.
(c) Sort out your plans into events.
3. Pre-Event Report
4. Event

CLEAN UP DRIVES

(a) Based on personal observations, and those of friends, family, media, discover public places which are dirty and
require cleaning.
(b) Analyse type of waste generated; e.g. plastic, paper, organic waste
2. Planning
(a) List out methods of cleaning required (sweeping, trash collection and disposal)
(b) Form teams for the above
(c) Arrange for equipment required [both, for cleaning, and for personal safety/hygiene]
(d) Include facility for waste segregation [e.g. Separate colour coded bags and collection teams for biodegradable
and non-biodegradable waste]
(e) Promote cleanliness, hold recycle drives in schools, colleges, other local institutes. [Urge them to, or provide them
with, recyclable trash. Train them to convert it into usable items. ]
3. Pre-Event Report
4. Event
5. Post-Event Report

Clean-up World Weekend

 Date: 3rd weekend of September
 Focus: Clean-Up Drives during this weekend
 Search for Organizations doing similar activities and media campaign, and if possible collaborate with them.

COMBINING EVENTS
It would be advisable for Teams to combine similar or related events. For example, a Clean-Up Drive can be followed
by Plant a Sapling as well as Street-Art (from Climate and Culture set of events), along with Health check-ups
(Climate Change and Health) and Awareness sessions (Climate Change and Community)
