 A Director’s Note:
“CAN’T STOP ROWING, GROWING,
CHANGING, AND MOVING ON”
I discovered the concept for this production of Tuck Everlasting last
fall when I sat beside my best friend’s bedside as she died of cancer.
Corinne had dealt with cancer before, but she had beat it in the past.
I never imagined Corinne dying. In fact, I always imagined her living
forever. After finding out that I would direct Tuck Everlasting this
summer, one of my favorite musicals, I was constantly listening to the
Broadway cast recording. It was astounding to digest Winnie Foster’s story as Corinne’s life
slowly slipped away. “What if Corinne could drink from the spring in Treegap Wood and live
forever?,” I thought. But my thinking soon shifted after Tuck’s story and score engulfed my
mind and heart:

How do we live knowing that we will die?

This profound show reminds us that we cannot be fearful of dying or we won’t truly be living.
Life is the greatest wonder on Earth. Death will always be a part of life, and without it we
would have no appreciation or understanding for the value of our lives.
As I listened to Tuck and sat by Corinne’s fading body and soul, I immediately thought of
Emily Webb, a character in Thornton Wilder’s metatheatrical play Our Town, who dies
during childbirth in the third act of the classic play. Emily sits with other members of the
cast as if they are the souls of those who have past in an abstract graveyard simply created
by chairs. Emily is reunited with her brother and her mother in law, Mrs. Gibbs, who had
passed years before. Mrs. Gibbs urges Emily to forget her life, warning her that being able
to see but not interact with her family, all the while knowing what will happen in the future,
will cause her too much pain, but she refuses. Emily chooses to return to her 12th birthday.
Her joy quickly turns to pain as she realizes how little people appreciate the simple joys of
life. The memory proves too painful for her, and she realizes that every moment of life should
be treasured. The image of death then becomes amplified when the prop-less and scenic-
less show suddenly introduces a powerful prop that transports its audience further into the
story: a group of mourners arrive at the cemetery dressed in black and carrying umbrellas.
Emily is never going to come home, and the town of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire will
never be the same. At the end of the play, the Stage Manager says: “Life is like a vicious cycle.
Tomorrow’s going to be another day.” I could feel Emily in Corinne, and I could feel Corinne
in Winnie Foster. She had been my best friend since we were in preschool, and what a life
she had. It was then that I knew that umbrellas had to represent death as well as life in our
production. And so the magic of our production began to take shape. I planted this seed
with the designers and the entire cast, and what we have been able to cultivate and grow is
something that I am so proud of.

Collaborating with the team of artists who made this very special piece of storytelling has
been one of the most profound moments of my life. I will always have this moment to cherish
and revisit, and it will forever be a part of the wheel of my life.

JACEY BERGMAN (Ensemble) is a rising Sophomore at Carolina Day School in
Asheville, North Carolina. She recently appeared as Ensemble and the Understudy
for Mrs. Mayor in Seussical, and as Alison and the Understudy for Pinkalicious in
Pinkalicious at the Flatrock Playhouse. Other Flatrock Playhouse shows include Annie, as
a swing and an orphan, Willy Wonka as an Oompa - Loompa, The Shadow Queen as the
Crow and The Ringleader, and in Alice in Wonderland. Last summer she attended SSTI’s
second session performance of Young Frankenstein as ensemble as well. School shows
include, The Jungle Book, Pirates, Rats and the Sound of Music as Marta. Jacey Bergman
starred in Camp Broadway’s production of Legally Blonde Jr. Also, she performed on
Broadway, in Rocktopia’s ensemble choir at the Broadway Theatre in New York City.

DANIEL BOSCH (Thomas Tuck) is thrilled to be part of Tuck Everlasting, his first Southeastern
Summer Theatre Institute production! Daniel recently appeared as Chip in the Savannah
Children’s Theatre mainstage production of Beauty and the Beast. He was also Colin Craven
in The Secret Garden, Prince Alexander in Enchanted Sleeping Beauty, the Genie in Aladdin Jr.
and Charlie Bucket in Willie Wonka Jr. Daniel absolutely adores musical theater and is grateful
for SSTI for helping him to further pursue his passion for the stage and his goal of…Broadway!

TAYLOR COOPER (Ensemble/Mae Tuck) is going to be a senior at Jack C. Hays

High School in Buda, Texas, and is beyond thrilled for her second show at SSTI! Other
credits include Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein (Frau Blucher), The Mystery of Edwin
Drood (Rosa Bud), The Addams Family (Alice Beinike), Into the Woods (Cinderella),
and several others. Taylor would like to thank God for all his blessings, the wonderful
dance company at Dance to Glory Academy of Austin, her supporting family, and
all of the wonderfully talented cast and crew of Tuck Everlasting! Enjoy the show!

EVELYN CRUMRINE (Ensemble) is a rising freshman at Parish Episcopal School in Dallas,

TX. She is ecstatic about returning to SSTI after two years of SSTI, Jr! Favorite past credits
include: The Music Man, Jr (Mamma Paroo), Matilda The Musical (Matilda), and A Witches Tale
(Nessarose). Evelyn has also previously been Secretary and Vice President to Parish Episcopal
School’s Junior Thespian troupe, and vocally trains with Schwartz Studio in Dallas, TX. Evelyn
is so excited to be taken under the wing of her SSTI family yet again, and would like to thank
Ben Wolfe and her fabulous counselors for such a life changing experience. Enjoy the show!

STEPHEN DAGLEY (Constable Joe) is a student at Beaufort High School. He’s recently been
seen locally in Shrek the Musical, playing the title role. He’s very grateful for the support of his
family, friends, and thanks the SSTI staff for this opportunity. He hopes you enjoy the show!

LEXI DiLUCIA (Ensemble/Betsy Foster) will be a senior in the fall at Peters

Township High School in McMurray, PA. This is her first time being apart of an SSTI
production and she is thrilled to be participating in this wonderful program! She
has recently performed in shows such as Bye Bye Birdie, Chicago, Guys and Dolls, Les
Miserable, Tarzan, and many more. Lexi would like to thank her performance coaches
for all of their help and her family and friends for their endless love and support!

EVELYN DUMEER (Ensemble/Nana) is on ‘top of the world’ to be performing at SSTI for the
first time! Evelyn has performed in many shows with her school and other local theaters in her
home town of Richmond, Virginia. Some of her favorite roles include Reno Sweeney (Anything
Goes), Mary Warren (The Crucible), and The Baker’s Wife (Into the Woods). When not on stage,
Evelyn can be found belting show tunes around the house, eating guacamole, and freaking out
about Designated Survivor. Special thanks to her voice teachers, Badiene Magaziner and Raquel
Nobile, and love to her Dumeer Fam, SPARC family, friends, and the entire cast and crew!

DEVIN ELLIOTT (Ensemble) is a rising senior at Capital High School in Charleston, WV

and is so happy to be back at SSTI for this gorgeous production of Tuck Everlasting. Her
recent credits include Olive Ostrovsky in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,
Ancestor in The Addams Family, and Erma in Anything Goes last summer at SSTI. Other
favorite roles include Gertrude McFuzz in Seussical, Mary in the 20th Anniversary
production of Mary, a Rock Opera, and the title role in Snow White. Many thanks to her
family, friends, acting teacher and vocal coach for always being so wonderful, and to the
entire SSTI family for giving her the opportunity to return for another amazing summer!

ABIGAIL GREENWOOD (Ensemble/Winnie Foster) is so excited to be in her first SSTI

show! She’s done SSTI Jr. for two years previous to this, and can’t wait to audition next
summer. She would like to thank Joe Barros and Ben Wolfe for this incredible opportunity.

REED MARIE GRUBBS (Ensemble) is a rising sophomore at Douglas Anderson School of

the Arts (Theatre) in Jacksonville, FL, and is beyond excited to come back to SSTI for their
production of Tuck Everlasting! Past credits include West Side Story (Maria), Beauty and the
Beast (Hat Seller/Silly Girl), Little Women (Clarissa), and so many more! Reed would like to
thank her parents for supporting her interest in theatre, the cast and crew of Tuck Everlasting,
and Ben Wolfe for giving her the opportunity to return to her home away from home.

AVERY HARRAH (Ensemble) will be entering 10th grade in the fall at Crossroads School for
Arts and Sciences in Santa Monica, CA. Avery has been active in Crossroads School Theater
doing unique versions of Midsummers Night Dream and Finding Odysseus. She was also
Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors for The Drama Teachers Association of Southern California
competition that Crossroads competed in last year. Avery has also been in the last two CATS
Theater Company performances where she was cast in consecutive lead roles. First she was
Patrice in 13 the Musical and more recently she played Veronica in Heathers the Musical.

CASEY KEEFE (Ensemble) is a rising junior at the Salt Lake School for the Performing
Arts in Salt Lake City, Utah, and is extremely excited to spend her first summer at SSTI in
Tuck Everlasting! Past credits this year include A Chorus Line, Anatomy of Gray, Othello,
Peter Pan, and numerous other productions. Casey would like to thank her friends, family,
and everyone at SSTI for giving her the chance to be a part of this incredible opportunity!

MADISON KNIGHT (Mae Tuck/ Ensemble) is here for a second year at SSTI. Last
year, she had a blast in the ensemble of Young Frankenstein. She is absolutely thrilled
to be playing Mae Tuck, and an array of ensemble characters. This fall, Madison
will be attending NYU Tisch in the Meisner Studio. She loves her SSTI family and
cannot wait for you to see this absolutely stunning, creative, and moving musical.

HENRY LEE (Ensemble/Man in the Yellow Suit) is a rising senior hailing from the little
island of Hong Kong. Select credits include the Hong Kong premiere of Catch Me If
You Can, Alice in Wonderland (West End), Aladdin the Panto, Annie, The Grimms Tales
Spectaculathon, Bed, and Under Milk Wood. As well as being a current IB Theatre HL
student, he has trained at the University of Southern California and with CentreStage
Studios. He is looking forward to bringing SSTI’s production of Tuck Everlasting! to the stage!

BASTIAAN VAN LEEUWEN (Ensemble) is a 16 year old from Paris, France. He’s very excited
to return to SSTI after being featured in Young Frankenstein last summer. He would like to thank
his parents, his grand parents, and Joe Barros for all of their love and support. Merci beaucoup!

ANDREW LOFREDO (Ensemble/Hugo) is a rising college freshman and is beyond excited

to be returning to SSTI for Tuck Everlasting. Favorite past roles include Bobby in Crazy
for You, Lucas in The Addams Family, and ensemble in last year’s Young Frankenstein.
Andrew would like to thank everyone at SSTI, and his incredibly supportive family!

CLAYTON LUKENS (Man in the Yellow Suit/ Ensemble) is a junior from Camas, Washington.
He is thrilled to be making his SSTI debut in Tuck Everlasting. Notable roles from back home
have been Lord Pinkelton in Cinderella (CHS; 5th Avenue Award Nomination for Outstanding
Actor in a Featured Role), Herb in Junie B. Jones (Oregon Children’s Theater), Louden/LeBret
in the world premiere of John Hughes High: The 1980s Teen Musical (Staged!), and Harold Hill
in The Music Man (Journey Theater Arts Group). He’d love to thank his friends and family
back home, but especially his parents for supporting him in this incredible opportunity.

ELIZABETH MANDELL (Winnie Foster/Ensemble) is a rising Sophomore at

Crossroads School For Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles, CA, and is delighted to be
attending her second year of SSTI! Past credits include Heather Chandler in Heathers:
The Musical, Hunyak in SSTI’s 2018 production of Chicago, and dance captain in SSTI’s
2017 productions of Anything Goes and Young Frankenstein. Elizabeth would like
to thank SSTI for being so welcoming and giving her such an amazing opportunity.

ELISE MARRA (Ensemble) is 15 years old and from Michigan. Some of her recent credits
include Donkey in Wheel, Mushu in Mulan and Miss Hannigan in Annie. She loves performing,
writing, and is beyond thrilled to be in this amazing production of Tuck Everlasting.
She would like to thank all of the SSTI staff and her parents for this amazing opportunity.

LAUREN MATHEWS (Ensemble) is a rising junior at the Louisiana School for Math,
Science, and the Arts in Natchitoches, LA, and is thrilled to join Southeastern Summer
Theatre Institute! Past credits include the Complete Works of Shakespeare, Sketch Comedy
Show (LSMSA), Mikado (NSU Opera Theatre), Into the Woods, Jr., Junie B. Jones, James
and the Giant Peach, the Little Mermaid, and 13! (StageCenter). She has also been involved
in many other summer programs such as Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp and the ADVANCE
Program for Young Scholars. She has been a winner at the state and regional level in the
High School Musical Theatre category of the National Association of Teachers of Singing.
She would like to thank her family and friends for their on-going support and love!

MATTHEW MUCHA (Angus Tuck/Performing Mentor) is a recent graduate of Marymount

Manhattan College’s BFA Acting/Musical Theatre program and is so thrilled to be part
of his first SSTI production! Recent credits include Miles in ...Forum, Frank Shepard in
Merrily We Roll Along and Fred Graham in Kiss Me, Kate. In August, he’ll be heading
back to his home state of New Jersey to join the Gateway Playhouse’s production of Little
Women as Prof. Bhaer. He’d like to thank Ben Wolfe for this amazing opportunity, Joe
Barros for an incredible process and the whole SSTI family for their dedication and hard

EVA MUIR (Ensemble) is a rising sophomore at Sunset High School in Portland,
Oregon, and is so happy to be participating in her first SSTI experience. Her past
performances include Billy Elliot, Into the Woods, Wizard of Oz, Once Upon a Mattress,
Smile, as well as others. Eva would like to thank everyone at SSTI for giving her
this opportunity and especially her parents and family for supporting her dreams!

HANAH NELSON (Ensemble) is a rising senior at Model High School in Rome, GA,
and is beyond excited to attend SSTI for this wonderful production of Tuck Everlasting!
Past credits this year include Seussical the Musical, Little Shop of Horrors, Vanities,
and Crazy For You. Hanah would like to thank the entire community of SSTI for
welcoming her into this incredible experience to perform in her most favorite show!

KAIA PELZ (Ensemble) is delighted to be returning to SSTI after being in last

years production of Anything Goes! Her past credits include Seussical, Joseph…,
A Christmas Carol, Evita, and The Little Mermaid. She would like to thank Joe
Barros, for directing such a beautiful show, and everyone at SSTI for making this
year so incredible. Much love goes to her Mom and Dad for always supporting her.

KRIS SAUCEDO (Jesse Tuck) is from Flat Rock, North Carolina, and is truly happy to be
home again after playing Billy Crocker in SSTI’s 2017 production of Anything Goes! Select

HAILEY SCHWARTZ (Ensemble) is a rising senior at Clarkstown South High School

in West Nyack, New York. She is so excited to return to SSTI for a second summer in Tuck
Everlasting. She most recently played in Mary Poppins. Other recent credits include: Our Town,
All Shook Up, Bridges of Madison County, Anything Goes and many others. She would like to
thank Ben, the SSTI staff and crew and her new amazing friends for another great experience.

EMMA ELIZABETH SMITH (Betsy Foster/Ensemble) is ecstatic to be in her second

SSTI show! Emma, sophomore, has previously played Erma Latour in Anything Goes with
Southeastern Summer Theatre Institute this past summer. Some of her other credits include
Wendy in Peter Pan, Miss Dorothy Brown in Thoroughly Modern Millie, and Millie Dillmount
in Thoroughly Modern Millie at King’s Ridge Christian School. Emma would like to thank
Joe Barros, Benjamin Wolfe, and the SSTI team for giving her this amazing opportunity.
She would also like to thank her family and friends for their immeasurable support.

ELLEDA SPITZER (Ensemble) is so excited to be here at SSTI! She is 15 and a rising junior
at Scotts Valley High School in Scotts Valley, California. Elleda studies voice and many styles
of dance, and performs with CYT. Past credits include Tom Sawyer, Peter Pan, Honk, Beauty
and the Beast, Bye Bye Birdie, as well as many more productions. Elleda would like to thank
the entire SSTI community for accepting and welcoming her, as well as her family and friends.

ANDREW STOUT (Ensemble) is a rising junior at NHS in Nolensville, TN and is thrilled to

be a part of his first SSTI production! Past credits this year include Twelfth Night, Starmites,
Milking Christmas, and Addams Family, as well as many other past productions. Andrew
would like to thank his family, friends and teachers that have supported his passion for theatre.

GREYSON TAYLOR (Hugo/Ensemble) is a rising freshman from Charlottesville, VA, and is

beyond excited to be making his debut on the SSTI stage! Recent credits include Fun Home,
Will and Whit, and Peter Pan, among others. Greyson sends his love and gratitude to his friends
and family, and to his fellow cast and crew for crafting a marvel of theater alongside him.

KOKO WALLER (Nana, Ensemble) is a rising junior in Telluride, Colorado and is beyond excited
to return back to her home at SSTI after playing Mrs. Harcourt in Anything Goes last summer. Some
of her favorite credits include, Pippin, The Addams Family (Morticia Addams), and Mary Poppins
(Bird Woman). This gorgeous production of Tuck is a dream show of hers and she’s thrilled to be
a part of it. She would like to thank SSTI for creating such an incredible environment for young
performers to grow and fulfill their potential, especially while creating such an incredible show!

LOGAN WUERTLEY (Miles Tuck) is a junior at Plainfield High School in Plainfield, IN.
He is very excited to participate in his first session here at SSTI. He is a new participant in
the world of theatre productions, currently only having been in two productions at his high
school PHS. Nevertheless, he is absolutely thrilled for the experience that SSTI has to offer. He’s
very grateful for being selected as part of the cast, and he hopes you all will enjoy the show.

MADISEN FRAZIER (SSTI Tech) has just graduated from Gainesville High
School in Gainesville, Florida. This is her fourth year as a props student at SSTI.
In the fall, she plans to attend the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music
to pursue a career in stage design and props. She would like to thank the theater
ghost for not dropping any lights on her head or slamming any doors on her foot.

RACHAEL GAYLE (SSTI Tech) is a rising senior at Montclair High School in Montclair, NJ.
She fell completely head over heels with theatre when she worked to put on a production of A
Chorus Line during her sophomore year. Since then, her burning love for theatre production
has opened her eyes to the endless possibilities theatre has to offer. She’s so excited to be a
member of the SSTI crew this summer working on the production of Tuck Everlasting!

HELENA MAGEE (SSTI Tech) is a rising junior at The Hockaday School in

Dallas, TX, and is very excited for her debut at SSTI as a lighting focus student of
the amazing production of Tuck Everlasting! Recent past credits include The Boxer,
Beauty and the Beast, Hamlet, The Drowsy Chaperone, and many more. Helena
would like to thank the entire community of SSTI for this amazing opportunity!

BELA MARCUS (SSTI Tech) is a rising junior at Charlotte Latin School. She has worked
behind the scenes stage managing and taking on other various roles in many shows at
Charlotte Latin School and Theatre Charlotte. This is her first show at SSTI and is very
excited for this wonderful opportunity to further her knowledge in technical theater

SARAH PATISAUL (SSTI Tech) is a rising junior at Green Hope High School in Cary,
North Carolina, and is incredibly excited to be a part of Tuck Everlasting at SSTI. She has
been back stage during other productions such as The Great Gatsby, The Last Five Years and
Antigone Now. She has also been onstage for the musicals Sideshow and Tarzan. Sarah would
like to thank everyone at SSTI for being so kind and working so hard on Tuck Everlasting.
SEBASTIAN SACHS (SSTI Tech) is a rising sophomore at the Park School of Baltimore
in Baltimore, MD. He is thrilled to spend this summer at SSTI TECH doing sound for the
production of Tuck Everlasting. Sachs was involved with five theater productions this year as well
as several musical concerts. He can’t wait to continue learning about sound design this summer!

JANAY SUKKARIEH (SSTI Tech) is a rising senior at Northwood High School in Irvine, CA

ANDREW HAILE AUSTIN (Musical Director) returns to SSTI for his fifth summer. After
graduating from college, he moved to New York City where he worked at several arts schools,
while free-lancing as a conductor for many theatres and universities in the NYC area. Since that
time, Andrew has music directed almost 100 productions of operas and musicals across the
country. Recent theatres include Theatre Under The Stars in Houston, TX, Gateway Playhouse
on Long Island (recently completing RENT in May), and Virginia Musical Theatre in Virginia
Beach. From 2003-2016, Andrew taught and music directed for the Governor’s School for the
Arts in Norfolk, VA. As a composer, he has recently been named composer-in-residence for the
Tidewater Opera Initiative. Andrew has recently completed his doctorate at the Peabody Institute
of Johns Hopkins University, studying with Pulitzer Prize winning composer, Kevin Puts.
