CHAPTER V

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Summary of Findings

The Fruits and Vegetables Cooler was designed to prolong the freshness of fruits

and vegetables. The essence of storage is of great importance because not all the

harvested vegetables or crops in general will be used immediately after harvest so,

measures of preserving the vegetables before it exceeds its shelf life is of great

importance. Through this cooler, it will be a big help for the vendors and farmers which

gives the new practices of prolonging the shelf life of the fruits and vegetables.

Since all the materials used in the Fruits and Vegetables Cooler are available in

the local market, the project was estimated to have a total cost of Php 45, 140.75

Based on the analysis on the foregoing problems, the researchers came up with

the following analysis and findings:

1. The integration of the following materials and components in the project are

the submersible water pump 220VA, 25W, cooling fan 12VDC, 0.2 W,

evaporative cooling pad, digital thermometer temperature LCD meter gauge,

water tank, solar panel 150W, charge controller, control panel and inverter.

2. The Fruits and Vegetable Cooler was proven effective in terms of its

operational. The operational temperature ranges from 0C to 5.1C is lower than
74

the ambient temperature. The effectiveness of the cooler was efficient compared

to the traditional storage.

3. The provided operational manual by the researchers was essential and useful

to the operation of the machine.

Conclusion

As a whole, the following were derived from the results and findings.

1. It is feasible to construct a project out of locally available materials in the

market considering the component’s parts and specifications.

2. The operational temperature of the cooler ranges from 0C to 5.1C was lower

than the ambient temperature. The Fruits and Vegetable Cooler was efficient

compared to the traditional storage.

3. The provided operational manual by the researchers was essential and useful

to the operation of the machine.

Recommendations

The proponents believed that the study entitled “Fruits and Vegetable Cooler”

was very useful in many farmers and fruit and vegetable vendors. To come up with more

effective in the future, the proponents recommended the following:

1. Future researchers may use clay as an inner cover of the water tank to cool the

stagnant water.
75

2. For better cooling process, the design of cooling pad may improve by forming

the cone in slant position wherein it will maximize the flow of the water.

3. The researchers may recommend automating the switching off of the pump

when the water reaches its critical level.

4. To prevent the fruits and vegetables to be easily rotten, placing of moisture

absorber inside may acquire.

5. Future researchers may form the bottom of the drawer into a plastic screen to

avoid the water in settling in the drawer and make a gutter that will flow the

water flow back in the tank.
