I. Objectives
At the end of a 60-minute lesson, the Grade 8 students are expected to:
Identify the similarities and differences of the state of the nation now and
then
express appreciation in the legend through putting themselves to the life
of the main character.
C. Lesson Proper
After the sharing, the teacher will tell students that their new lesson is also a
legend of other country which is not really strange to them --Singapore. The
teacher will tell that just like how other countries got their names, Singapore
also came from a legend.
Moreover, before they will proceed to reading text, they will first unlock
words that they will find difficult through the use of answering context clues.
Students are asked to get a 1/4 sheet of paper. The teacher will give
students 2 minutes to answer. Then, they will answer the questions together.
INSTRUCTIONS: Choose the meaning of the italicized words using context
clues.
1. When the tourist went to his farm, he climbed a knoll to take a good look
at the beautiful surroundings.

2. The ground attendant advised the passenger to reduce the things he had
in his suitcase for jettisoning; he had exceeded the required weight for his

After answering the context clues, the teacher will ask students about the
title of the text. Afterwards, students will be grouped according to their
column. Every group would read the text aloud once it is already their turn.
Once one group is reading the text, other groups should be reading with
them using their eyes. This would be done until they finished reading the
text. After that, the teacher will proceed to asking these following questions:
Who is the main character in the story?
What can you say about the setting of the story?
Why is it entitled “Singa”?
What does “Singa” means? or what does “Singa” refer to?
What is the essence of this legend?
D. Generalization
The teacher will ask the students questions.
Who is the main character in the story?
What can you say about the setting of the story?
Why is it entitled “Singa”?
E. Application
The teacher will give an activity to students. They would be given 3 minutes
to answer the activity and then, the teacher will call random students to
share their answers to the class.
IV. Evaluation
The teacher will group the students into 4. Each group needs to accomplish the
task given to their group. Each group would be given 10 minutes to finish the task
and then, they would be given another 2 minutes to present their work to the
class. Their work will be graded using the criteria of the teacher.

Directions: Draw the events of the story on the story board. Record them in
correct order.
V. Assignment
