DREAM DEFENDERS
FREEDOM SUMMER FELLOWSHIP
Are you ready to build power in your local community? Join our summer Freedom
Fellowship!
This summer, the Dream Defenders are recruiting students and young adults from across
the state ready to turn our vision for a free Florida into a reality. We believe we can live in a
state where no child is left alone, in the cold, or behind bars, where young people feel free
and safe when they walk to the store, play in the park, or are on their way to school. We
believe in a state where everyone has enough to feed their families, can go to the doctor
when they need to, has a home to sleep in at night and a good-paying job to go to during
the day. This Florida is possible. The problem is that the political establishment has chosen
to prioritize the profits of big corporations, over the lives of everyday people. We are
fighting to change all of that and we need your help!
Freedom Fellows will learn community organizing skills in order to become effective
leaders positioned to transform their community. Through training, one on one and group
coaching and on-the-ground practice, fellows will learn the basics of local politics and how
to pressure their local representatives to give communities what they need. Freedom
Fellows will also have the opportunity to learn and engage with Dream Defenders state of
the art social media and messaging program.
Together, we will take back power from the corrupt politicians and corporations running this
state so we can build a Florida for all of us.
Through the programs, fellows will:
● Learn the basics of community organizing, including: one-on-ones, meeting
facilitation, canvassing, field organizing, leadership identification, local electoral
politics and local grassroots organizations.
● Go door-to-door, engaging their communities to learn more about the issues and
concerns that matter most to them
● Learn the ins and outs of building an organization and recruit new members to
Dream Defenders
● Research local electoral politics and community organizing history
● Organize meetings with local elected officials and learn how to effectively move
them on our issues
● Organize community meetings and present Dream Defenders Freedom Papers
