Aceclofenac

Aceclofenac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), prescribed for fever and to relieve
pain and swelling in osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis. It blocks the
action of cyclo-oxygenase responsible for causing pain and inflammation.

Acetaminophen or Paracetamol

Acetaminophen or paracetamol helps to reduce fever and to relieve a headache with mild to
moderate pain. It is also used with other pain medications to treat low back pain, osteoarthritis,
cold, and toothache.

Acetazolamide

Acetazolamide is prescribed to treat excess fluid accumulation due to congestive heart failure. It is
also used to treat glaucoma or increased pressure in the eye, seizures or epilepsy, mountain
sickness, periodic paralysis or muscle weakness, and to reduce the increased pressure in areas
surrounding the brain and spinal cord.

Acrivastine

Acrivastine is an antiallergic drug used to treat hay fever causing sneezing and watery eyes, itchy red
eye due to allergic conjunctivitis, hives, and eczema. It is also used to treat allergies caused by food
and insect bites or stings.

Aciclovir

Aciclovir or acyclovir is an antiviral agent used to treat cold sores around the mouth caused by the
herpes simplex virus, chickenpox, and shingles. It is also used to treat or prevent genital herpes
mainly the repeat outbreaks of the disease. It is also used to treat oral hairy leukoplakia a condition
that causes hairy white or gray-colored patches on the tongue or inside of the cheek.

Alprazolam

This medication is a benzodiazepine, prescribed for anxiety and panic disorders.


Amikacin

This medication is an aminoglycoside antibiotic, prescribed for serious bacterial infections. It inhibits
the production of bacterial proteins, which causes bacterial cell death.

Amlodipine

This medication is a calcium channel blocker, prescribed for high blood pressure and chest pain. It
widens blood vessels and improves blood flow by not making the heart pump harder.

Amoxicillin

This medication is a penicillin-like , β-lactam antibiotic. It is used to treat bacterial infections caused
by susceptible microorganisms. It prevents the bacterial growth and is used in the treatment of a
number of infections such as pneumonia, bronchitis, gonorrhea, and infections of the ears, nose,
throat, urinary tract, and skin.

Ampicillin

This medication is beta-lactam antibiotic, prescribed for certain types of bacterial infections such as
UTI, meningitis, gonorrhea, pneumonia, bronchitis, ear, lung, skin and respiratory tract infections.

Arteether

Arteether is used for the treatment of severe falciparum malaria active against P. falciparum strains
that are resistant to chloroquine, mefloquine, halofantrine, quinine, pyrimethamine, cycloguanil and
amodiaquine. Alpha/beta arteether is also used for the treatment of uncomplicated falciparum
malaria. It is an ethyl ether derivative of artemisinin, which is a natural product of the Chinese
medicinal plant Artemisia annua. It is used as a second line drug in severe cases of malaria.

There are two formulations of arteether –

Alpha / beta artheether (of / arteether ) was registered in India in 1997 for use in both children and
adults with severe malaria.

Artemotil, previously known as beta arteether was registered in Netherlands in 2000. There is a
restriction on this drug for children lesser than 16 years due to a possible effect on the heart.

Artemether

This medication is a potent and quick acting antimalarial agent,used for treating chloroquine
resistant falciparum malaria,including cerebral malaria.
Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C)

This medication is a vitamin, prescribed for scurvy.

Astemizole

This medication is an antihistamine, prescribed for allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria.

Atenolol

Atenolol blocks beta-1 receptors, which are present on the heart. This prevents the action of nerve
chemicals adrenaline and noradrenaline on the heart. As a result, heart beats at a slower rate and
with lesser force, and thus pumps out lesser blood into blood vessels. This action of atenolol reduces
blood pressure in the hypertensive patients. Since the heart treated with atenolol beat slowly and
with less force, it uses lesser energy thus relieving pain in angina and also reduces the risk of heart
attack.

Auranofin

This medication is an antirheumatic agent, prescribed for rheumatoid arthritis. This medication
reduces the effects of inflammatory process in the body.

Azathioprine

This medication is an immunosuppressant, prescribed for prevention of rejection kidney


transplantation. It is also used for rheumatoid arthritis and autoimmune diseases.

Aztreonam

This medication is monobactam antibiotic, prescribed for serious infections caused by susceptible
gram negative bacteria like urinary tract infection, lower respiratory tract infection. It works by
killing sensitive bacteria that cause infection.

Benzalkonium Chloride

This medication is a topical antiseptic, prescribed for cold sore and fever blister. This medication
prevents the spread of infection.
Caffeine

This medication stimulates the brain; hence it is used as a central nervous stimulant. It is used along
with analgesics and/or ergotamine for migraine (severe headaches with nausea). It is also used for a
breathing condition (apnea) in premature infants.

Calcitonin- Salmon

This medication is a man-made version of the hormone, used to treat osteoporosis in


postmenopausal women and Paget’s disease. It is also used to treat conditions with high calcium
levels in the blood such as cancers spread to the bone and hyperparathyroidism.

Calcitriol

This medication is a synthetic vitamin D analog, prescribed for hypocalcemia in patients undergoing
chronic renal dialysis.

Calcium Carbonate

This medication is a dietary supplement, prescribed for calcium deficiency state which may occur in
diseases such as decreased levels of parathyroid hormone (acute and chronic), postmenopausal
osteoporosis, rickets and osteomalacia (softening of the bones). It is also used as an antacid.

Carvedilol

This medication is an alpha- and beta-blocker, prescribed for heart failure and high blood pressure.

Cefadroxil

This medication is broad-spectrum antibiotic, prescribed for certain types of bacterial infections such
as urinary tract infection, skin and soft- tissue, pharynx (throat) and tonsils (tonsillitis). This
medication fights against the bacteria present in the body.

Cefepime

This medication is cephalosporin antibiotic, prescribed for certain bacterial infections. It kills
sensitive bacteria.
Cefetamet

This medication is a cephalosporin antibiotic, prescribed for susceptible infections.

Cefixime

This medication is an oral cephalosporin (third generation) antibiotic, prescribed for gonorrhea,
tonsilitis and pharyngitis.

Cefoperazone Sodium Injection

This medication is a cephalosporin antibiotic, prescribed for susceptible infections such as


respiratory tract infection, infections of the skin and skin structures, urinary tract infection, pelvic
inflammatory disease, endometritis, and other infections.

Cefotaxime

This medication is a cephalosporin antibiotic, prescribed for certain types of bacterial infections such
as lower respiratory tract infections, pelvic inflammatory disease, endometritis, skin and skin
structure infections, and others.

Ceftazidime

This medication is a cephalosporin antibiotic, prescribed for certain types of bacterial infections. It
works by killing sensitive bacteria.

Celecoxib

This medication is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, prescribed for rheumatoid arthritis,


osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, juvenile arthritis, menstrual pain, and other pain.

Cetirizine

This medication is an antihistamine, prescribed for allergic reactions.

Chlorhexidine

This medication is a chemical antiseptic, prescribed for gingivitis, cleansing skin and wound areas.
Chlorpheniramine

This medication is an antihistamine, prescribed for allergic conditions such as itchy and watery eyes,
sneezing, runny nose, hay fever and common cold. It may also be used to relieve the itching from
insect bites and bee stings.

Chlorzoxazone

This medication is a muscle relaxant, prescribed for muscle spasm and the resulting pain or
discomfort. It is used in combination with physical therapy, analgesics (such as aspirin or
acetaminophen), and rest.

Ciprofloxacin

This medication is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, prescribed for certain types of bacterial infections
such as pneumonia, urinary tract, skin, bones and joint infections. It is also used to treat
gastrointestinal infections.

Clarithromycin

This medication is a macrolide antibiotic, prescribed infections of the middle ear, tonsillitis, throat
infections, laryngitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, and skin infections. It stops the growth of sensitive
bacteria.

Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12)

This medication is a vitamer (varied chemical substances) of vitamin B12, used in treating anemia,
folic acid deficiency, neuropathies (damage in the nerves of peripheral nervous system), prophylaxis,
and psychiatric disorders. Recommended for patients with the condition of pancreatic tumor.

Cytarabine

This medication is a chemotherapy agent, prescribed for acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and non-
Hodgkin lymphoma. This medication slows the growth and spread of cancer cells in the body.

Desloratadine

This medication is an antihistamine, prescribed for allergic reactions in patients 2 years of age and
older.
Dexamethasone Oral

This medication is a corticosteroid, prescribed for certain conditions associated with decreased
adrenal gland function.

Diclofenac

Diclofenac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) prescribed to treat mild-to-moderate


musculoskeletal pain.

It helps to relieve:

• Tenderness, stiffness, and inflammation due to osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing
spondylitis.

• Musculoskeletal pain due to sprains, strains or other causes.

• Migraine headache and other types of headache.

• Painful menstrual cramps.

• Pre and post-operative pain.

• Pain due to kidney stones and gallstones.

Diclofenac works by blocking the effects of the cyclo-oxygenase enzyme thereby reducing the
synthesis of prostaglandins, which are responsible for causing pain and inflammation.
