Be Our Guest
This is a reaction paper on a fairy tale adaptation of Beauty and the Beast presented
by NTC students at the Social Hall. I was able to watch the first screening scheduled
at 10am. I arrived earlier at the social hall about 9:30am and they have a registration
area where they signed paid tickets. They also have a spot with a chandelier and a
small table that you can take your picture with. I loved how they decorated the area
in line with the theme of the show. As expected they didn’t start on time. They
apologized for the delay though and have us proceed to the holding area while we
wait them to start. After 30 mins or so they let us
enter the Social Hall and even gave us chips that we
can eat while watching. Upon entering the Social
Hall a picnic blanket with pillows on the floor caught
my attention. Since its near the stage I chose to seat
there because I find it comfy as well.

And the show begin at around 11am an hour late but they didn’t disappoint. First of all
their backdrops and stage setup are great as well as the lighting and smoke effects. I must
say that they give the money’s worth and even more than we paid for their show. The
characters did portray their roles well. From the costume to their lines its well done. The
story is almost the same as the one with Emma Watson as Belle I believe they just twist
it a little bit. However their voice is not clear while delivering the lines or when singing
probably because of the sound system.

They started the story with Belle singing on the market while holding a
book like the original one. Then her father leaving, promising to return with
a rose Belle asked for. Her father wandering in the woods and ending up
on the Beast place where he’d be imprisoned for stealing a rose. Belle
finding her father and setting her father
free in exchange of her freedom. Then
Beauty and the Beast will get to know
each other. Gaston will eventually save
Belle and try to kill the Beast. Belle
knowing that Beast is a changed man will
later save him because she realized she
too have learned to love him. Then they danced happily in the ending.

The moral of the story is don’t be deceived by the looks because beauty is beyond
physical appearance. Beauty can only be found from within. Growing up Beauty and the
Beast has always been my favorite one and Belle has always been my inner princess. The
reason being is like Belle I am a simple girl who loves reading books. I am the least popular
because of my simplicity as compared to my cousins. Though they are beautiful and all
they don’t have the relationship with other people like mine because most of their friends only see them for what they
have not what they can give. I am more than blessed with people that surround me because I was able to find people who
care and love me like I do and we all deserve that kind of love. If we can all learn to look for the goodness in others then
probably we could have beautiful place where racism, insecurity, jealousy and hatred will not grow and foster and we can
all smile and treat each other with kindness.

That’s why kudos to the team for reminding me once more of this. I must say that the quality of the show they gave us is
at par if not equal with those I’ve seen so far. Thanks for giving us a one of a kind performance.
Buenaventura, Hannaj May The Little Mermaid March 13, 2019( 10am - 12pm) Prof. Evangeline Pamaos

Part of Your World

Little Mermaid is another fairytale adaptation presented by the NTC students at

the Social Hall. Compare to Beauty and the Beast production team Little Mermaid
probably didn’t anticipate the
number of audience who come to
watch their show because the first
screening scheduled at 10am is
overcrowded. I’m quite disappointed
because I wasn’t able to enjoy the
show because we are almost squeezed in our seats and some are even
standing. For the fairness of this paper I will no longer compare it to Beauty and
the Beast since its a different story.

Lets start with their stage design. They don’t have much decorations aside from the boat and minimal ornamentations.
They played with light to give an illusion that its underwater. So the good lighting effects really played a big part on setting
the mood and showing the sequence of the story. They are all well dressed
accordingly. Its kind of awkward though that Ariel’s tail is hanging on her
waists. Their audio is much better because I can clearly understand their lines
and songs.

As for the storyline its the same as the Viera Studios production. Anyways
growing up I’ve known Ariel as the stubborn, sneaky and ambitious mermaid
who wanted to have a feet so she can be with the prince. With that I can relate
her to a rebellious teen who wanted to stand on her own but ends up putting
herself in danger. Why? Because like Ariel she gave her voice to Ursula in exchange for a pair of feet so she can be with
the prince right. And that for trying to fit in instead of being who we are we only hurt ourselves. Like what peer pressure
does to teens. But on the good side I think Little Mermaid is trying to teach us a lesson about chasing after our dreams.
That there are things we have to sacrifice for us to get our dream and that our weakness should not be a hindrance in
achieving our dreams. Although there are a lot of lessons that we can learn from this its my least favorite because at first
glance it's not a good story unless you dig dipper until you understand the meaning of it.

Anyways congrats to PEPSynergy for a successful show. We are delighted by your performance.
